Chapter 14 The date

Lisa and Carl Black went to the parking area of the hospital at around 7 in the afternoon.

"You go with Dr. Valentine. I'll follow you." Carl Black looked at her.

She slowly turned her head to look up at him with disbelief. Panic spread in those deep blue eyes, and she asked, "Are you not coming? I don't want to go with him alone."

Placing his hands on her shoulders, he looked and said gently, "Don't worry. I'll be there... Now listen carefully, you wait here for him, and let me wait inside the car. If you feel anything wrong, just call me, alright?"

“Okay."

Lisa reluctantly agreed with him. She couldn’t understand what was going on in his mind. She thought he would go with her, but who would have thought that he would let her go alone with that doctor. She felt a little annoyed too.

Carl Black was not aware of the intention of Dr. Valentine. He wanted to know it clearly. If he went with them together, he would never be able to find out the actual motive of Dr. Valentine. So he decided to follow them from afar.

Lisa didn't need to wait longer. She saw Dr. Valentine, coming to the parking area, pasting his usual grin on his face. He approached her and said, "You are punctual. I am very happy. Come on, let's go."

He took her to his car, placing his hand around her waist. He opened the front door and ushered her inside the car. Lisa was stunned and couldn't react at all. She was just flowing away with the situation unable to resist. She panicked and messaged Carl Black immediately when she was inside the car. 'Mr. Black, what should I do now?'

'Don't panic. Behave normally.'

After receiving his message, she tried to calm down a little and pasted a fake smile on her face.

Dr. Valentine started the engine, and the car exited the parking area of the hospital swiftly.

"I am delighted that you came with me. Let me treat you well tonight." He grinned and glanced at her.

She only smiled awkwardly and looked outside through the windshield. She was feeling very uncomfortable. After a few moments of silence, she heard him say again, "You don't like to talk much, do you?"

"Huh?" She turned her head to look at him, startled.

"You are very quiet.” He chuckled. “Say something. Otherwise, the journey will be boring."

"Um... I wonder why you want to treat me to dinner. We hardly know each other."

He laughed loudly and said, "That's the reason I want to treat you to dinner. I want to know you more. Let's say it’s a date."

"A date?" Lisa exclaimed. The shock was inevitable on her face. This man was even more dangerous than she thought. She regretted coming with him. She was angry as well, thinking that how easily she was tricked by him. And what’s more, Carl Black left her with this lunatic.

Anger was seething inside her, and her breathing became erratic. She pulled back her gaze and looked outside. She cursed many times in her mind.

Dr. Valentine glanced at her through the corner of his eyes and asked, "What? Why are you so shocked?"

"You told me that you will discuss my father's case in detail."

"If you have any doubt just ask me. I'll tell you in detail." He let out a soft chuckle.

Lisa was too lazy to continue the conversation so she kept quiet. She was glancing at the rearview mirror from time to time to check if Carl Black was following them or not. She was feeling suffocated inside the car. After a few moments of silence, she asked him, "How long do we have to go more?"

"We will be there in another five minutes."

As said, five minutes later, the car halted with a screech in front of a high-end restaurant. Lisa's phone rang when they were about to enter the restaurant. She pulled her phone out of her bag, only to see Carl Black's number flashing on the screen. "I have to take the call. You go first." She mustered a smile.

"Alright, but don't be late." He winked at her and smiled.

"Yeah."

Once he entered the restaurant, she answered the phone hurriedly, "Hello, where are you?"

"Don't panic, I can see you."

She looked around her surroundings, but she didn’t see him. Then she heard him again, "Go inside and don't agree to go to the private chamber. Don't disconnect the call."

"I understand."

She went inside the restaurant and found Dr. Valentine in front of the reception. When he saw her, he came towards her with long strides and said happily, "I have booked a private room. Let's go."

"Um... wait... I- I don't feel good in a private room. I mean... I am claustrophobic." She stuttered.

Dr. Valentine frowned deeply, and his expression turned ugly for a moment, but he quickly concealed it with a smile. "No problem. Then we will sit there at the corner table. You go, I'll come once I arrange."

She turned around and went to the corner table. She put the phone to her ear and asked, "Mr. Black, are you there?"

"Yes."

"Where are you?" She swept her gaze inside the restaurant, but to her disappointment, she didn’t see him.

"Lisa...."

"Um… fine."

She pouted in frustration and put down the phone after saying that.

Carl Black was sitting in another corner of the restaurant from where he could see them clearly and was smiling to see her behavior. Very soon, Dr. Valentine came here and sat down opposite her.

"So, what do you do Lisa?" He looked at her inquiringly.

"I am a drawing instructor in a school."

"Oh, nice. I like drawing too. In fact, my hobby is to collect beautiful paintings."

Lisa cocked her head in surprise and asked, "Is that so?"

"Yeah. Visit my home someday. I'll show you my collections."

"Dr. Valentine, I...."

"I told you to call me Liam." He interrupted her.

She frowned slightly and looked at him in a complicated way. "Okay, Liam. Tell me honestly, why do you invite me for dinner?"

"I told you I want to know you more."

"But, why do you want to know me more?"

Dr. Valentine chuckled and smirked, "Don't you know why a handsome man wants to know more about a beautiful girl like you?"

Lisa only stared at him with a stupefied expression. She was thinking 'this man is not easy to deal with.' By then a waiter came to take the order, and they ordered the food.

He then continued speaking again, "I like you. When I saw you the first time, I wanted to know you more. I wanted to be friends with you. I am a successful heart surgeon, and I am the only son of my parents. My parents live in the capital city and own a hospital. I am working for Bill Roth temporarily. Now if you want to know anything else you can ask me."

Lisa was even more stupefied to hear this and couldn't help but ask, "Why are you telling me all these? I am not interested in you."

He put his hand on the left side of his chest and sighed dramatically.

"You broke my heart. Don't be so heartless. Give me a chance to come close to you." He acted as if he was in pain.

She got angry and said fiercely, "Enough. You know I have a boyfriend, so don't try this on me. It's not going to work."

Dr. Valentine chuckled and said, "So what? You are not married yet. I can still pursue you. I still have a chance."

Lisa was so angry that she was about to explode. 'Shameless' she said in her mind. She closed her eyes to calm down. Suddenly, she felt warmth on her hands, and she opened her eyes frantically, only to meet Dr. Valentine's piercing gaze. He was holding her hands with his big palms tightly. She heard him say shamelessly, "Lisa, give me a chance. I promise I'll not let you down."

"Lisa... You are here. Hello, Dr. Valentine."

She heard the familiar cold sexy voice from the top of her head. She quickly pulled her hands back and looked up at the source of the voice. A wide smile appeared involuntarily on her face, seeing her savior and called, "Mr. Black...."

"Hmm...." Carl Black smiled at her.

Dr. Valentine frowned and asked, "Mr. Black, are you alone, or are you with someone else?" Displeasure spread on his face.

"Why? Can't I come alone to have dinner?"

"No, I didn't mean that."

Carl Black sat down next to Lisa, looked directly at Dr. Valentine, and said indifferently, "Lisa told me that you have invited her for dinner to discuss father-in-law's case. So please tell us about that." He smiled at him.

Dr. Valentine stared at Carl Black attentively for a few moments as if he wanted to read his mind and said, "I already told her. You can ask her later."

He tore off his gaze and looked down on his empty hands. After a few moments of silence, he looked up at Carl Black again and asked, "How do you know that we are here?"

"I called her." Carl Black chuckled and looked at her.

Dr. Valentine furrowed his brows, remembering the phone call she received when they entered the restaurant. Oh… It turned out that she was talking to him.

Very soon the food was served. Lisa shared her food with Carl Black. Carl Black looked at her lovingly, pushed a few strands of hair behind her ear, and said, "You are looking beautiful."

Lisa's face turned red immediately and lowered her head in embarrassment.

Dr. Valentine got annoyed to see this and couldn't help but say, "I am full."

Carl Black didn’t pay attention to him and asked her, looking at her with the same intensity, "Do you want to have anything else?"

"No." Lisa’s voice was as low as a whisper. She couldn’t lift her head.

"I'll pay the bill. Dr. Valentine, thank you so much for your concern about my father-in-law. You are a very generous doctor." He purposely stretched the word father-in-law. He looked at him and smiled warmly.

Dr. Valentine was really annoyed by Carl Black tonight, but he could do nothing but faking a smile. After waving them goodbye, he left hurriedly.
