Chapter 20 Wayward as Always
Hank Cook noticed Mike Johnson's glance at Mary Miller, smiled, and said, "Young Master Mike, it seems that you're quite concerned with Miss Miller."
Mike immediately withdrew his smile and put on a sullen expression. "It's none of your business!"
At the conference room of the Johnson Group, a meeting was going to begin at nine in the morning.
Everyone had gotten seated, but Young Master Oliver and Young Master Joe, Mike's two brothers, still did not show up.
Mike was sitting in the primary seat.
Although he was an illegitimate son.
He looked at the two empty seats and said with an emotionless look in his eyes, "Let's get it started."
In Mike's opinion, it was more important to begin the conference in time than waiting for the other two young masters of the Johnson Family to appear.
Then the directors of different departments began to report the situation of the relevant sector.
Mike had become the new president for just half a month but had already conquered his subordinates with his kingly aura. Judging from the fact that he had obtained the position of president from his two brothers, people guessed that he must be quite capable.
All of a sudden, the door to the conference room was pushed open, and someone said, "Sorry that we are late."
Hank furrowed his brows.
Everyone looked in the direction of the sound and noticed Young Master Oliver and his younger brother Young Master Joe.
Oliver was expressionless, but the arrogance in his eyes was apparent.
Joe glanced at the seated attendees and joked, "You guys are so early and diligent. The new president shall give you all a raise."
There was a hint of sarcasm in the speaker's eyes.
The meeting resumed after the two latecomers got seated.
The two men sat quietly, listening to the reports, and Oliver actively joined the discussion.
Joe, however, obviously had no interest in those research, development cases, or business plans. He took out a magazine from his bag and began to read it.
His cell phone suddenly beeped. It was a text, reading, "Sweetie, I fancy a Prada bag. Can you accompany me to buy it tonight?"
Joe replied to it immediately, "No problem, but after purchasing that bag, you must behave well tonight on the bed."
His girlfriend instantly sent a message back, "Thanks, darling. Will wait for you tonight. Kisses."
Joe lifted his head and then realized that everyone else in the room including Mike was staring at him.
"Sorry," Joe raised the phone in his hand and added, "I'll turn on the mute mode. You guys go ahead."
Then the others continued the meeting, and Joe refocused on the magazine.
He was just being wayward as always.
On the other hand, Mary was not been assigned any work as it was her first day at the company.
Except for getting familiar with the workflow, she basically had an idle day.
Soon, it was time to get off work. When her colleagues were leaving with their bags, Mary was photocopying a document for Roger.
At 5: 15 p.m., she received a phone call. Mike's slightly annoyed voice came from the other end of the line, "Where are you? Are you working overtime?"
At the man's words, Hank rolled his eyes as he worked overtime every single day.
Mary checked the time and answered, "I'll go downstairs right now."
Then she hurried to get out of the building and walked over to the waiting vehicle.
Noticing that the woman was leaving, Roger did not even shut down his computer and hurried to catch her up, calling, "Mary, wait for me."
"Let me treat you to dinner," said Roger.
"I'd love to, but I have to go back early tonight," replied Mary.
Sitting in the car, Mike witnessed that Mary stopped her pace to talk to the man who followed her and chatted with him with a smiling face.
Hank immediately felt the temperature in the car dropped dramatically.
