Chapter 12 Obey the Rules

Zack glared at her for a while, then let her go and said, "Listen carefully. Now that you are a maid, you have to obey the rules as a maid."

Dorothy stood up straight and asked, "What rules?"

Zack glanced at her and suddenly became irritable.

Since he got married, he had been irritable. Now that Mrs. Hunter had left and Dorothy couldn't even cook the ribs, he was more irritable.

After a while, he said the following as if he had finally made up his mind, "You just need to bear one thing in your mind. No matter what you do, no errors are allowed. Anything wrong happens, you will be punished!"

"Punishment?" Dorothy looked at Zack confusedly as if she couldn't believe her ears, "How?"

He looked at her, his eyes getting colder and colder, "Well, there are many kinds of punishments, such as kneeling, doing more work, being beaten... It depends on how big your mistake is!"

"Knee... Kneeling?"

She really suspected that she had heard it wrong.

Zack looked at her, "Did you not hear me or understand me? Do you really like me to repeat anything I said to you? Then I will make it clearer. Anytime you make a mistake, you will be punished! Now! Did you hear me clearly?"

"Oh."

Zack said coldly, "If you think I'm saying this for fun, then you can give it a try!"

"Ok." Her faint tone made Zack very angry.

He had a feeling that this woman didn't seem to take his words to heart at all!

He really wanted to teach her a lesson right now.

He could even do that now given she hadn't cooked the ribs well.

For this kind of woman who was spoiled by her parents, if he didn't make her suffer at the beginning, she would act the same way in his house.

Later when she got familiar with her life here, she would talk back to him, disobey him, and do whatever she wanted as if she was in her home.

That was something he could not tolerate.

"You'd better bear in mind everything I say to you now. Also, if you dare to reveal your identity to others," Zack said viciously, "Dorothy, I will skin you alive!"

Dorothy said nonchalantly, "Don't worry. I won't tell others that I am your wife."

Zack beat hard on the bedside table, "Dorothy! I don't want to hear the word 'wife' from you. You are not my wife!"

"I know," Dorothy said courteously, "I am your maid."

Zack looked at her coldly. He hated her attitude like that.

"Also!" Zack said, "You are not allowed to tell others that your nickname is Dottie."

"Why?" Dorothy didn't understand.

Dottie was her favorite nickname. Only when she was in school did her teachers and classmates call her by her name. But ever since she left school, her father and neighbors all liked to call her nickname. Nobody had called her full name for several years.

"It's a bad name! Like it had been out of style!" Zack's face was full of disgust.

"But..."

"No buts. Just do as I say!" Zack roared.

"Ok."

"Get out!"

Dorothy walked out of Zack's bedroom and went downstairs to continue mopping the floor that was not finished just now.

While mopping, she thought about the rules Zack had said. Would she really be punished for doing anything wrong?

It was impossible for her to do everything right. No matter how careful she was, there would be times that she made mistakes. Did she have to accept his punishment even if she accidentally made a mistake?

...

The night was peaceful.

The next day, Dorothy made a passable breakfast. Zack did not come back for dinner at noon, so she cooked the noodles alone.

When it was getting dark, Zack came back as soon as Dorothy prepared the dishes.

Dorothy opened the door for him, hung up his coat, and served the food.

Zack took a bite of rice and fed it into his mouth, but he vomited as soon as he chewed it. The rice was raw.

Dorothy took a bite suspiciously and said, "It's raw? Let me add some water and make porridge out of it."

She was not accustomed to cooking rice in an electric cooker and didn't know the proper ratio of water to rice.

Zack took a bite of the dish and vomited again. It was too salty to swallow.

"Dorothy Field!" Zack was so angry that he cursed, "Have you never cooked before? How lazy are you at home?"

Dorothy argued, "There are only two people in my home, me and my father. My father can't cook. If I can't cook as well, what did we eat?"

"You dare to talk back!" Zack slapped the table, "If you have cooked rice for dozens of years, why is the rice you cook like this?"

"I have never used this kind of pot for cooking."

"So you are innocent? What about the dish? Look at the meat you cut. One piece of meat is enough to fill half a bowl."

"The knife is not sharp..."

It wasn't that the knife was not sharp, but Dorothy took the wrong knife. Urban people had knives for cutting while others for slicing.

She only had one knife in her home before, so she didn't know that the knives in Zack's house were also divided. She used the slicing knife to cut the meat, of course the meat she cut was big and thick.

"Then how do you explain that the dish is so salty?"
