Chapter 4 Was It Him
Lora widened her eyes, abruptly lowered her head, and saw a pair of robust male arms weighing on her chest.
"Let go!"
Appalled, Lora exerted full strength to force open the man's arms and struggled to get up.
Seemingly startled, the man behind her suddenly exerted strength before she could break free.
Lora felt dizzy and came to her senses before the back of her head hit the bed. A heavy and tall figure was weighing down on her.
The hands that locked her in front of her chest now moved to the bottom of her neck. Like iron, his fingers clamped her tender throat.
Lora could hardly breathe and happened to see a pair of inky, fierce, murderous eyes.
The man's gaze was dangerous and threatening. Lora felt that if she moved even in the slightest, she would die there and then.
This was a horrifying situation, but Lora somehow recalled the scene of that man strangling Denny in the ward, and her heart skipped a beat.
Was it him?
This thought cooled her down, and she sized up the man above her.
The night was deep, and the dim moonlight blurred his face.
His slightly long hair drooped messily at his forehead, covering his bushy eyebrows. His eyes looked penetrating and glittered fiercely. His high nose bridge reflected the moonlight. The man looked handsome even though his countenance could not be seen clearly.
But it was not him!
As far as Lora could remember, behind the mask, that man had a pair of amorous eyes and wrinkled eyelids. This man, however, got his eyes, but the shape was slanted.
And their ages differed. That man got gray hair on his temples. Even if time went back four years, he would not be young. This man, however, was quite young.
Disappointed, Lora's eyes reddened. In her trance, she looked harmless and pitiful.
"Who are you?" After a daze, he relaxed a bit and questioned her in a husky voice.
Lora came to her senses and found that he was having a high fever. As he spoke, his hot breaths assaulted her cheeks and made her upset. In the meantime, some old memories were slowly awakened.
She remembered the man.
She pointed at her throat as a signal for him to let go.
Under her friendly gaze, the fierceness in his eyes softened, giving way to darkness. After a few glances at her, he eventually moved his hands away.
Lora coughed slightly, "I'm a villager here. You were injured and fainted in the mountains. I brought you back and mean no harm."
Lest he wouldn't believe her, she slightly raised her body in a bid to show him the sincerity in her eyes, "I'm telling the truth. Please let go..."
Stunned, she suddenly lowered her voice.
At the close range, she saw his eyes more clearly. Because of the fever, the corners of his deep slanted eyes looked a bit red. His pupils looked ablaze, and her reflection appeared in the depths.
"You..."
Lora flashed back to the scene of that man jumping down with her in his arms.
At that very moment, he looked down at her attentively. Just like this, his blazing eyes reflected her little figure.
While she was dazed, the man slowly lowered his head and drew close to her.
Lora held her breath, and her eyelashes trembled. As he approached, she lost her bearings and couldn't tell the past from the present.
Was it him? Was he going to kiss her?
Although she knew nothing about him, she somehow would not avoid him if he was that man, and her heart raced uncontrollably.
