Chapter 11 Her Heart Hurts

Jennifer drew back her hand, and tears were welling up in her eyes. She had done such things for him before.

She folded 1,001 paper stars, 1,001 paper cranes, and 1,001 paper hearts for him.

Through that, she thought that she would have 1,001 wishes.

All her wishes were the same. She wished to marry Ethan.

"Bearing his surname" used to be her greatest wish!

But the reality proved her wrong and stupid. All the past events were laughing at her for her obsession.

Jennifer cried till she laughed, "Ethan, what's done is done. What's the point of doing this?"

"I used to follow you like a shadow; I used to try my best to marry you and be a good wife; and now? My heart is exhausted from the long run. It still beats with no feelings. My loving heart for you died a long time ago."

In other words, she had given up on love.

No love, no pain, no desperation, and no more struggling days.

Like a sharp arrow, her remark penetrated his heart.

"Jennifer, we can work this out. If you're tired, I'll run and chase you for the rest of our lives, okay?"

Jennifer shook her head with a smile, "You can't catch up!"

Eight years of their prime time and turbulence had created a chasm between them.

Moreover, a life lay between them. The barrier was insurmountable.

"Ethan, I met you at the age of 14. Now I'm 22. Eight years is not long, but... when I recall it, it feels like a lifetime. My happiness, sadness, and despair have run out."

"You used to be the cause of my pleasure, anger, sorrow, and joy. Now my emotions have nothing to do with you." Jennifer smiled through tears, "I don't dare to let my heart hurt for you again."

She lifted her head to let the tears run back to her eyes.

"Let this grand scene bear witness to our end!" Jennifer wiped away her tears, restored her composure, and walked towards the exit.

How would Ethan let her go so easily?

His eyes, darker than the forest, were filled with sadness.

He swiftly held her tightly in his arms and muttered in a deep voice, "Marry me, Jennifer, marry me, marry me..."

Like a wounded beast, Ethan growled painfully and repeated his request sadly and desperately.

Jennifer made no response, and they were locked in a stalemate.

"Ethan, let go, I need you to let go. I'll never marry you."

After a long time, Jennifer rejected firmly, struggled desperately, and tried her best to force open the hands around her waist.

Ethan certainly would not let her walk away. He turned around and pressed her against the big tree. When his robust body bore down on her, there was no escape.

He lowered his mouth and rained down his kisses.
