Chapter 7: First Date
Both Summer's parents stared at her without speaking, for a good minute. Her dad was the first to break his silence.
"That happened pretty quickly."
"What do you mean?" Summer asked her father.
"Just that we didn't think you would get serious about Alex until at least another few weeks."
Summer was fairly surprised by her parents' reaction. Especially her father's. On the one hand she was happy they seemed to be okay with her dating Alex, and on the other she didn't understand why they were so.
"So, you've been thinking about me and Alex?" Summer raised her eyebrow as she looked at her dad, and then her mom.
"Sweetie," Summer's mom came into the dining room upon hearing the conversation. "Look, we're just saying last night when you invited Alex over...." Her mother made a face that she always made to ask Summer to assume the rest.
"And we actually don't have a problem with it at all," her father continued. "Alex seems like a nice guy."
Summer was still dazed upon hearing all that. She couldn't believe it went by so easy. But she decided to not question her parents anymore. After all, she did want them to be okay with everything.
"Great, then." Summer said as she got up. "I'll go get ready then."
She entered the bedroom and closed the door behind her. She started going through her nice clothes. After looking through some dresses, she decided to go for something casual yet sophisticated. She zeroed in on her black trousers and white sweater. She wore a plain t-shirt first, and then wore the rest. She paired everything with her black and silver heels and black overcoat. She sat in front of her vanity and brushed her long hair out. They were naturally wavy so she left them open with a middle part. She kept her makeup minimal with just a tad bit of mascara, lip gloss and face powder. Finally she wore her favorite hoop earrings and matching neck-piece.
She checked her phone and saw a message from Alex: Almost there.
She put her phone and wallet in a clutch bag, and left her room. Her parents were in the living room as her dad talked to someone on the phone. He seemed to be arguing with whoever was on the other line. As her father saw her enter the living room, he gave up on the conversation and put the phone down.
He flashed a smile at his beautiful daughter. "You look incredible."
"Thanks, Dad. Who was it on the phone?" Summer was pleased to hear the compliment. But she didn't miss the argument her father was having earlier.
"The bank," her father didn't meet her eyes. And Summer understood why. It must've been something bad. "But you don't have to worry about all that. Just enjoy your date with Alex. You rarely ever go out."
Summer smiled at her parents. But the smile didn't meet her eyes. How can I not worry, she thought rhetorically. She told herself everything would be okay pretty soon. The whole thing with Alex will work out and her parents will be out of this situation. That was exactly why she was going out, after all.... Or was there something else in her heart? She brushed away those thoughts.
The doorbell rang then and her mom got up to open the door. It was Alex.
He was dressed in a deep maroon turtleneck sweater with blue jeans. He looked very very handsome. Summer looked at him in admiration, and his eyes from behind his glasses were also glued to her.
"It's so nice to see you again, Alex." Summer's mom spoke, looking at the two 'lovebirds', as she liked to think.
"Pleasure is all mine, Ma'am." Alex smiled at the woman and gave her the beautiful bouquet of flowers he held. She smiled back and took the flowers.
More than her mom, Summer herself was pretty impressed! Alex acted with such impeccable etiquette.
"Hope you two have fun," her dad said as Summer and Alex started walking out.
"Thanks, Sir. See you later!" Alex was bubbling with energy and excitement. He had not believed initially when Summer had texted him about the date. His head just couldn't register that it was finally happening! He was going to take Summer Roberts out for a date! But now looking at her, his head was buzzing with ecstasy.
He couldn't take his eyes off her. She always looked beyond beautiful to him, but today there was just something special about her. Maybe because of the fact that she had dressed up for him, he thought. The thought of it sent a rush down his entire lower half.
He held the door of his gorgeous car open, as she got in. Then he walked over to the driver's side and sat beside her.
"Excited for our first date?" He asked her, smiling.
"Yeah," she said looking at him. She gave him a small smile and looked ahead. She met the eyes of a very angry looking Anthony, as he stared right at them a few feet away from her home.
