Chapter 5: Dean's office
Our university isn’t just a simple university. If I were to judge, our school gymnasium wasn’t ordinary as well as our field, classrooms, buildings, and more associates that solely will be seen here on our campus.
This is a school only for the children of privileged people like Lily, Cindy, Amer, and the rest of her friends.
Well, lucky of me. I got myself a sponsor. He sponsored me throughout my college journey. As far as I can remember, no scholars are studying here under his name except for me. I haven’t met him yet nor seen him, he barely went to our university. Sometimes, he’ll go instantly to where the Dean’s office is.
The school administrator told me the sponsor got hooked by my grades as he told me to continue striving and he expects me to aim high even more, and that’s what exactly I’m doing. And oh, one more, if I graduated as a Magna or summa cum laude, there’s a possibility that he’ll hire me in case.
Honestly, I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately. Ever since I started college, my sponsor didn’t give me any emails or visited once. As for my brother, Evan, he’s a scholarship as well.
Before I could go inside the Dean’s office, I saw Lily a few meters away with her friends. She waved her hand playfully before running towards me with Cindy and the others.
“I’ll just talk with Lily, Prof,” I asserted.
Professor Indie gave me a tight-lipped retort before sighing and nodding after. “Just make sure you won’t run away, dear.”
That was the last thing Professor told me before infiltrating the office. It is when Olivia gave me a big smile.
“Hey there, Emiliana!”
I gave them a small smile, “Hi.”
“Let me guess, did you somehow provoke that old witch?” Amer whispered meticulously.
A slight chuckle came out from Lily’s lips. “For the first time in your life, you got late in our class Emiliana.”
I sneered, “That man ruined everything!” I stormed out of animosity making everyone flinch.
Amer stood straight like a real man, Lovely halted fixing her hair, and the remaining individuals in front gazed at me with a mischievous peek.
Cindy uttered, “Why? What happened that night?” She said a slight hint of suspicion was in her voice.
“Spill, Emiliana. Have you been kissed?” It was Amer. But, God, it was further than that!
“Or... does someone grab your hand and got your number as what everyone does but ended up getting dumped by you? Argh!” Olivia said.
Amer raised his eyebrows, “You vanished that night, right? Where did you go?”
I was astonished by his question. I looked away and remained silent while everyone are still waiting for a response. As for Lily, she’s just smirking behind them, like she discerned something everyone doesn’t.
“Girls,” Lily interrupted when she noticed all of them who were still dawdling for me to speak. “She needs to follow Professor Indie’s orders first. Let her go,”
Thank God she didn’t tell them! Oh, well, they have been teasing me a lot about my virginity thing. Even so, I don’t dare to tell them to it yet. There’s something inside me that’s stopping me from doing so.
Maybe because it’s perhaps better this way? Since they’re not the ones who got a one-night stand to some hot stranger you don’t know.
Before they decided to leave, Lily gave me a wink and a playful smirk. I calmed myself down and pulled myself together. Ahead of opening the door, Professor Indie executed it and saw me outside.
“I was about to call you again,” she said sternly.
My heart throbbed, “I’m s-sorry.. uhh–”
“Come inside.”
Professor Indie opened the door even more so I can go inside.
The Dean’s office isn’t normal. It has a huge sofa inside, her table, types of furniture, and such, more likely an office for a CEO. New Era University has a lot of offices and the Dean are the one who caught my attention the first time I went here.
Like, she doesn’t need to go home if she has a lot of pending work and jobs needed to be done as soon as possible.
“Good afternoon, Dean,” I politely said.
A small smile crept on her lips, “Look who’s here. How are you, Miss Miller?”
“I’m good, Dean. Thanks for asking.”
Nevertheless, our dean looked at Professor Indie who was just checking a few papers above her seat.
“Why is she here, Prof?”
Prof Indie looked at me, “She got late to our test earlier. I have no other choice.” Prof asserted prior shrugging her shoulders.
I placed my bag above the sofa near her table. Professor Indie and the dean herself helped me clean her not-so-dirty office. Dean Cameron Welt told me what to do. It’s a good thing, she just ordered me to fix her files on her table and put it along with the others in her cabinets.
While I was just quietly doing my work, Professor Indie spoke.
“Before I forgot, what do you wanna tell me about, Dean?” She stammered.
Dean Welt proceeds with wiping her dusty table and spoke without glancing at her, “A VIP will arrive today.”
My forehead creased. VIP? Like the president of our school? A government official?
“Really?”
She nodded slowly, “Yes. And I’d like you to buy time and tour him around the campus first while we’re cleaning.”
“Judging by the looks of your office, I think it wouldn’t take fifteen minutes before the arrival of your visitor.” I butted in, a little bit polite.
The old lady soughs heavily, “As we should. I don’t want to turn him off just because my office is dirty. When is the new janitor will come?”
“Probably tomorrow, Dean.”
“You referred him to me. Make sure he doesn’t slack off, Indie.”
I became brisk with Dean Welt’s files. There are plenty of pristine bond papers above her desk, a few envelopes, and lots of unsigned documents. Probably related to our school.
Minutes had passed, one professor came in again, notifying the three of us that her anticipated visitor is already here. Dean Welt shortly sent Professor Indie outside.
Her office is already clean, the plants inside were already sprinkled by me.
But I’m wondering who he is? Due to enough enthusiasm I have, I spoke in the middle of cleaning. “Can I ask, Dean?”
“What is it, my dear?”
“The visitor you’re expecting, who is he?”
Deliberately, Dean Cameron stood up as she placed both hands on her waist before sighing, seizing a look at the small portion of her table. Seeing the size whether it’s equal or not.
Dean Cameron uttered, “Like what I’ve said, he’s a VIP. He’s a well-known business tycoon in the business industry.”
“Really? Is he gonna donate or something?”
I stood up and moved directly to the sink, waiting for the Dean’s reply.
“Well, I’ve scheduled a meeting with him today. A lot of students had been passing us a lot of scholarship applications this year. We’re opening a program and I think, it piqued his interest.”
That’s good to hear, to be honest. Hearing students trying to aim for the limited scholarships in our university made my heart a bit sad. Even so, I’m still glad to hear it.
Here at New Era University, many people who belong here are smart. Some weren’t and only has the money to enroll their selves here and get admitted. Well, connections, you know.
“So, many struggling students will be given a free scholarship if he agreed after you tell him the details and projects, then?” I stated.
Our Dean nodded. “Yes,”
And then a realization hit me. Since we’re already talking, I should ask him about my sponsor whom I never met like what other scholarly student does.
At every event here in our school, sponsors are always present. Except for mine. I don’t know his name, yes, but I’d like to ask and see him and thank him because of his kindness towards me.
“How about my sponsor, Dean? Have you met him before?”
Dean Cameron gazed at me, “I haven’t, dear. I forgot who’s tycoon under you,”
After what she said, I helped her again upon preparing snacks before Professor Indie and the VIP arrives. Well, it’s just a simple sandwich, juice and cakes.
I feel hungry. That’s the least I felt after helping them clean.
Dean Cameron stepped outside for a minute. She offered me food which I took. Few of her documents flew away when the door opened and it was Professor Indie whom I heard first.
I can see already that there are a lot of people entering the Dean’s office judging by their shadows reflecting on the ground. My eyebrows arched when I saw another document again I forgot to put on the cabinet along with the others.
Slowly, I whirled around and was stunned to see a familiar person in front of me. His body structure remained the same. Hunk and masculine. His clean-cut made him dashing even more.
If I were to describe him, nothing changed. My heart sank when our eyes locked on each other. Something inside me wanted to explode upon having his dark, cold and intense stares towards me.
“Emiliana,”
