True Friends Stand Up For You
I wanted to scoff at her, knowing that she was lying through her teeth. It was so obvious that she came to apologize because she was scared that I might tell Sebastian, but I knew that would make me look rude.
So I nodded at her with a tight smile on my lips, "Sure, manager."
She looked relieved and her forced smile relaxed, "Just call me Heather, we're all equal here."
"Okay." I replied curtly, eager for her to leave me alone already.
It seemed like she got the hint as she nodded and turned around to walk away. I let out a sigh of relief and turned back to my computer. I scrolled to the chrome browser icon then clicked on it. My first work for today was to find celebrity gossip online and write about it. If I did that well then they would allow me to find celebrity gossip in person.
"Hey! Kat, right?" I turned to the side to see a woman with blonde hair in a black skirt and pale pink button down shirt. She was grinning as she stood beside my cubicle. I could tell straight away that she was a werewolf.
"Yeah, do I know you?" I asked with a confused look on my face.
She shook her head, "No, you don't know me. I'm Tess and a writer too. I thought that I would introduce myself so that we can get to each other. You know us writers and wolves have to stick together."
I raised a questioning a eyebrow, "Are you sure it's not because I'm dating Sebastian?"
She let out a small laugh, "No, not at all, Kat. You're quite blunt and funny, I like you already."
I couldn't help the smile that graced my lips at her words, "Thanks, Tess! I like you too. Is your cubicle nearby so that we can work closely?"
"Yes, it's this one." She replied, patting the metal of the cubicle on my right which she was standing next to.
"That's great-" I started when the ringing of my phone from my purse interrupted me.
"Excuse me, let me take this call." I told her with an apologetic smile.
She kept her grin as she nodded, "Sure, I'll be right here after you're done."
She turned to the cubicle that she said was hers and sat down on the chair as I pulled out my phone from my purse. I glanced at the screen briefly to see that it was my friend, Sophie calling me before I answered the call. She was also a werewolf. I met her after two years at College during a class and ever since, she has been Sierra and I's friend.
I placed the phone against my ear as I said, "Hey, Sophie."
"Hey, Kat! Did he propose? Has he marked you? He probably did last night, right? How was it? Is it as romantic and pleasurable as our parents describe it?" Sophie rushed out, excitedly, completely unaware of what happened last night. I was so tired that night that I forgot to tell her all about Cameron cheating and meeting Sebastian, my true mate.
I let out a sigh, "No, it turns out that Sierra is the one that sent the text to me. I found them at the bar, holding each other. Apparently, Cameron has been cheating on me for two months now with her. I broke things off with him and literally, a few minutes later, I found my mate."
She squealed at the last part that I had to take my phone away from my ear for a few seconds. The sound was so loud that Tess heard it and glanced at me with an amused look, I shrugged in response and she looked back at her computer screen.
Sophie finally calmed down as she replied, "Oh my gosh! You actually met your mate?! That's wonderful and it is a slap to Cameron and Sierra. I can't believe either of them would betray you like this. I mean, Sierra was like a sister to you and me, how could she steal your boyfriend when she knew that you were in love with him? And how could Cameron promise to be your mate when he was cheating on you with your best friend?"
"It doesn't matter anymore because I found my mate and he is Sebastian Wolfe, my big boss at Wolfe Corp and the owner." I replied to her, feeling my sadness go away and being replaced by happiness as my wolf yipped in excitement in my head at the mention of our mate.
She gasoed and her voice sounded shocked as she replied, "Your mate is Sebastian Wolfe?! He is one of the fiercest Alpha in this state and the hottest too! Not to mention how successful he is in the business world! You're so lucky! That's why Sierra is so jealous of you. I have to call her and give her a piece of my mind for betraying you like this."
I felt panicked and uncomfortable at her statement, knowing that it could make things worse for me. "No, Sophie, don't call her. That would just make things so much worse. She would think that we still care about her so much that you would talk to her about last night."
"Fine, I won't call her, but if I see her, I have to give her a piece of my mind!" Sophie said, sounding angry at her.
"Sure, if it would make you feel better."
"Anyway, how did it go with Sebastian, your mate?" She asked, sounding curious and excited again.
My lips stretched into a smile at the mention of his name and my wolf sighed dreamily, "It went very well. We didn't get to talk much last night, but we did this morning. He accepted me and I accepted him, but we're not in any rush for him to mark me. I want us to get to know each other more first."
"Wow! He's lucky to have you too, you're the sweetest girl I know. I'm sure that he will take good care of you, but I'm surprised that you're not rushing for him to mark you. If it were me, I would have made my mate mark me the moment we met."
I laughed at her eagerness to find her mate, "That's just my view and don't worry, you will find your mate soon enough too."
She let out a longing sigh, "I really hope so."
"Me too, anyway, I need to go, there's a lot of work for me to do and I don't want to start getting into trouble on the first day." I said to her as I glanced back at my computer's screen.
