Chapter 3 Familiar, Boss Carlos Brown

The phone was ringing again relentlessly. Alice picked it up, and there came the anxious voice of Emma Miller.

"Alice, the hospital stops offering the medicine. What's going on? Didn't they agree to have the operation next week? How can they suddenly stop offering the medicine? They stop offering the medicine, so your mother's condition is not stable. How can she have the operation now?! Where are you? I couldn't find you last night. I called you but your phone was power off. Did you disappear on purpose?”

The rapid-fire voice of Emma finally got Alice back to the reality. She hung up the phone directly, grabbed the check on the cupboard and rushed out of the Royal City Hotel. She stopped a taxi and went to the hospital.

Wellbeing Hospital, the largest private hospital in A city.

The medical equipment here was the most advanced in the whole city and even in the whole country. You could imagine how expensive the medical expenses were. It was not at an average level.

When she got to the ninth floor of the hospital, she saw Emma wandering in the hallway with her cell phone in her hands. Her hair was short and sharp, giving people a fresh, cool and free feeling.

"Alice! Where the hell have you been?' Emma landed on Alice as soon as she arrived. "I waited for you in the hospital all night long. Your mother asked me where you were going. I could only say that you had an exam to take, and you were reviewing the lessons at school. Don't get it wrong!"

Alice covered her head and forced a sweet smile as usual. "I know, I am sorry to trouble you, Emma."

"What are you saying? Want a fight?" Emma raised her hand again. Alice hurried to beg for mercy, so Emma didn't continue.

"Your dad went crazy while looking for you last night. He acted like it was the end of the world. Since when did he care so much about you? When pigs fly"

Alice laughed and said, "Oh, he was looking for me."

Emma pouted and said, "Of course, there's another one looking for you like crazy."

"Who?" Alice asked in an absent way.

"David! He came to the hospital four times. I said on the phone, you were not in the hospital, but he didn't believe it. He came here several times in the middle of the night.”

"David was just caring about his friend."

"Only you believe that there is pure friendship between men and women." Emma pouted.

"You know, David has a girlfriend."

"Emily Thomas, that rich girl? They won't last long!" Emma shook her head, not taking her words seriously. "By the way, where on earth did you go last night? How come you look so pale!"

Alice quickly pushed open the door of the ward to escape Emma's questioning.

When her brother Leon Oliver saw Alice, he clapped his hands and shouted, "Mom! Alice, sister, sister, she, she's here!''

Leon and Alice were boy-girl twins. They had similar features and both were very handsome and beautiful. But when Leon was three years old, he had a high fever and finally ended up with dementia. At the age of 22, his IQ remained at the age of three.

In order to take care of her elder brother, and save the trouble of running between home, hospital and school, she let her brother and her mother live together in the hospital.

"Bro, do you behave well today?" Alice stroked her brother's head affectionately.

Leon nodded obediently, "Leon, behaves well, helps mother, dress."

"Wow, that's great. I will reward you a lollipop later."

Leon laughed very happily when he was praised.

"Alice, your dad has hired a caregiver. She takes good care of us. You don't need to go back and forth from school to here. The exam is coming. You still need to focus on your study so that you can find a good job in the future. So you don't have to work that hard." Sarah Davis was lying on the bed weakly. She gasped for breath as soon as she finished her words.

"Mom, I see." Alice hurriedly got Sarah a glass of water.

Sarah grasped Alice's thin hands. Her heart ached and she said. "I drag you down. It's all mom's fault."

"Mom, don't say that. I don't like to hear it!" Alice held back the tears coming from the corners of her eyes. She cupped her mother's face in her hands, and gave her a big smile. "As long as you are getting better, Alice is not tired at all."

"Alice, tell mom the truth. Is your dad really willing to pay for my medicine? This hospital is a noble hospital. It's too expensive. You can't do...silly things.'' While Sarah was saying, tears came into her eyes.

"Mom!" Alice laughed more brilliantly to hide her guilt. "This time it's really dad who pays for the medical fee. Dad is afraid that Aunt Mary may find it out and then comes to our house to kick up a row, so he doesn't come to see you. He even told the hospital in private to give you the best medicine and the best doctor.”

"Really?" Sarah still did not believe it.

"Mom, I'm going to talk to the doctor about the operation next week." Alice turned and walked out of the ward quickly. She leaned in the corridor, silent.

The picture of last night kept playing in her mind. It was like a magic spell, not letting her go.

She hit her head against the wall, hoping to smash her head and reassemble it. How could she misremember the room number? How could she go to the wrong room? How could she do that?

Emma chased her out and grabbed her. "Alice, what are you doing?"

"I just feel a little tired." Alice took a deep breath to calm her mind.

Emma took a look at Sarah and Leon in the ward and sighed. "They are your heavy burdens, poor Alice."

"No. They are my motivation." Alice looked up and her eyes turned determined again. "As long as my brother and mother are doing well, I will do anything."

Emma held Alice's thin shoulders in her arms and patted them gently. "Alice, you are always so strong. It hurts me to see you like that."

"Emma, I'm going to pay the bill now. It's hard to find a matching kidney. The operation must be carried out next week as scheduled.” Alice had made up her mind.

"Where did you get so much money?" Emma asked in surprise.

"My dad gave me the money." Alice was afraid that Emma would find out that she was lying. She ran to the elevator in a hurry and went all the way downstairs.

The two little nurses in the elevator were looking at the mirror, fixing their makeup while practicing the most standard smile.

Alice heard them say that the CEO of Brown Group, which the hospital belonged to, was coming here today to inspect. He was said to be a very critical and mysterious role. He rarely showed up in front of people. While the little nurses were anxious and worried, they were looking forward to it. Brown Group was the largest group in the country. Legend had it that Carlos looked very handsome, and he was still single. Many rich girls wanted to be Mrs Brown, but he didn't even give them a look.

Naturally, some people speculated that Carlos did not like women.

Alice was not interested in this. She went out of the elevator and stood at the payment window with the check clutched in her hand. She hesitated for a long time, and finally handed out the check.

Even though the money came in a dirty way, nothing in the world was more important than her mom.

Sure enough, the money worked. After she paid the bill, the hospital was offering her mother's medicine again.

Alice took a pile of medicine and walked back to the elevator. She did not see that the top managers of Wellbeing Hospital were respectfully welcoming a handsome man with a trim suit. They were heading for an internal exclusive elevator, which was in the opposite direction of Alice.

Suddenly the man stopped and slowly turned back. He felt that the thin shadow was somehow familiar. He fixed his eyes and looked over, the figure with long hair had disappeared along with a group of people into the elevator in the distance.

"Boss, what are you looking at?" Ben Carter, his assistant, followed Carlos's eyes, but saw nothing.

"Nothing." Carlos returned to his usual indifferent attitude. And then he entered the elevator escorted by a group of people respectfully, heading for the top floor of the hospital, the nineteenth floor.
