Chapter 6 I Lost Sleep for Missing You
During the trip to France, Lori signed a cooperation contract with the Rockefeller Group, so she had a lot of business to deal with recently.
The incident and that woman had to be left behind for the time being. Only Clifford hadn't been to the company for once as he used to do!
He was still in a nominal business trip!
At 10:30 p.m., the spacious, simple, modern office was still ablaze with lights. In front of the black desk, Lori was still reviewing files.
Holding a black Montblanc pen with her fair fingers, she signed her name smartly and then put the folder aside.
Before she could reach out for the next file, she inadvertently glanced at the time on the right bottom of the computer screen.
It was already so late?
She raised her hand to rub her temple and counted the files. There were still seven, eight of them. Following a sigh, she capped the pen.
She rose and lazily stretched herself. After a long day, her waist and back ached. After she drew out the hairpin, her thick, seaweed-like, curly and long hair hung loose and reflected smooth gloss under the fluorescent lights.
After rubbing her scalp and stroking her hair, she picked up a cup from her desk, ready to pour some water from the pantry. Just then, the phone on the desk suddenly rang.
It was from Clark.
While walking to the pantry, Lori answered the call.
"What is it?"
"Hey, what are you doing? Working overtime? You can't be."
It was not the peak season of business, so the entire building was almost empty at this late hour. The clicks of her high heels sounded crisp in the lonely late night.
But she didn't notice a shadow standing in the dark.
"Mm, we just signed a contract with the Rockefeller Group, so it's very busy recently. What, you still up?"
Clark lazily turned over on her bed, put her laptop aside, and said helplessly, "Yeah, I lose sleep for missing you. When will you come back? How about I pick you up?"
Recently Lori had been staying in Clark's house. Although she owned many apartments in Winston City, she found them dark and gruesome when she got back every night.
She suffered from dark phobia ever since the wedding day!
At least, she could have a company in Clark's house.
"That won't be necessary. I'll be back soon. Sleep tight; don't wait for me."
Lori held the phone with one hand and bent over to pour a cup of hot water with the other after hanging up.
When she just turned to leave, she suddenly found a person standing at the door against the light. It was so dark outside that she couldn't see his face clearly.
"Ah!" Lori screamed in alarm, and the cup with 70% of water slipped from her fingers. Before landing on the ground, it fell to her thigh, and all the water seeped into her high-quality black suit pants.
"Hiss..."
Lori gasped in pain, and the cup crashed on the floor! The burning pain from her thigh spread to her nerves and stimulated her every physical sense within seconds.
If it was a dress, she would have been rushing to the bathroom for a flush. But this was a pair of trousers, and someone was standing in front of her!
It was Clifford, and she didn't want him to see her discomfiture!
"Rash woman, how dumb are you? You can't hold onto a cup?"
Regardless of her will, Clifford kicked the pantry door closed and reached out to unbuckle her black belt around her pants.
He just came back to fetch something, surprised to find Lori working overtime. While talking over the phone, she was too immersed to notice him. He was pissed, and inexplicable displeasure ensued.
He hadn't expected the woman to be so careless during the phone call that she failed to notice a man behind her!
Dumb ass!
The belt buckle clicked, and Clifford panted slightly. A quiver in her voice, Lori asked.
"What are you doing here?"
