Chapter 16 You'll Die at His Hands
Clifford narrowed his eyes and looked coldly at the woman with her proud head rising. If it wasn't for his principle of not hurting women, he promised she would not live by tomorrow.
"What are you looking at? It's just a matter of days since she came back. She is burned and hospitalized. Why don't you just kill her directly?" As soon as Clark heard about Lori's hospitalization, she was anxious to hold justice. Now anger was surging in her.
Born in a military camp, Clark was innately overbearing. When she was tactful, she was like a lamb. But when the lamb lost her temper, she would become a leopard.
Different from Lori, Clark never held her temper. In front of this man, Lori always swallowed her pride, oblivious to her grievances!
Clifford took a glance at the bewildered Owen, then Clark, and spat coldly, "This is between her and me, none of your business!"
"What do you mean? Do you know how many sacrifices Lori has made for you? Do you know that you have a..."
"Enough!"
Lori sat back with a start, roaring in a dry and hoarse voice. If she didn't break-in, she had every reason to believe the blunt woman would disclose all of her secrets in a fit of pique!
Her eyes bloodshot, Clark turned her head, bit her lip, and gazed at Lori, whose face was pale, whose hair was as messy as that of a ghost. Before running off, she spat.
"Lori, you are a damn fool. One day, you'll die at this man's hands!"
Owen also went out to chase after Clark, leaving the couple in the room.
At the sight of Clifford's sullen face, she wanted to say something, but it was the blood that spurted out of her mouth.
She wished she could die like this.
But what about the child? He hadn't met his dad yet. Clifford, did you know how much the kid looked like you?
...
Clifford put his hands on his hips outside the door of the operating room, and his eyes never moved away from the large character 'Surgery'!
He had never been so worried about a woman! Neither had he been in such panic!
At the thought that Hermione was forced away by her, he was anxious to torture her with various methods. He'd like to see if the woman could understand love or torture!
When he saw other men leering at her, his heart would roar like a lion. But when he saw her feeble body, his heart skipped a beat. He felt empty and panicky!
In the summer of a certain year, they agreed to go home together after school. There was heavy rain that day, and he thought she would not come and thus left early with his classmates. If one of his classmates didn't tell him that his sidekick came, he wouldn't know about her persistence. The 15-year-old little girl, drenched in the rain, waited for him at the school gate and smiled at the sight of him.
Her cat's eyes glittered, but she got a fever that very night.
She kept talking gibberish and murmuring his name.
"Cliff... brother..."
Later, when the little girl grew older, she stopped calling him brother.
Whenever he asked her to call him brother, she would always pout and say seriously, "Humph! I will be your wife. If I call you brother, how would I become your wife?"
He had been treating her like a little sister. When she grew up and prettier, she had a lot of admirers but was still clingy to him.
He always protected the pretty little girl like a pearl in the palm. Certainly, many men would dart admiring glances at him. That kind of joy filled his heart.
Therefore, when his grandfather brought up their marriage, he didn't object. After all, her status matched his, and he liked her.
Only he was not sure if that was love.
On the day when they got the marriage certificate, she smiled brilliantly. But after encountering Hermione, he suddenly felt the marriage was not something he wanted!
Therefore, after Hermione disappeared for good, he vented all the anger on her.
In retrospect, he wondered if he went too far.
The door to the operating room was still closed. Clifford mused and then took out his phone for a call.
"Owen, help me dig into something!"
