Chapter 7 Preparation

It was Saturday the next day.

In the morning, Jack attended extra tutoring. He came home from school until noon. He didn't stay at home long. And then he went out of the house and went to Joyce's house.

Jack, Tom, and Joyce were playmates from childhood and they lived in the same block. Since their parents knew each other, they often gathered together to chat and eat, so naturally, they were very familiar with each other.

They went to the same kindergarten and then to the same primary school, junior high school, and senior high school. It could be said that they had always been inseparable.

Because of the early death of his parents, Jack should cherish his friends more than others. However, Tom's death cost him two of his closest friends in an instant.

On the day Tom was killed, Joyce was also present and witnessed the whole process. She was in a coma in the hospital for several days because of excessive shock. After waking up, she suffered from severe autism. Not only could she not go to school now, but also she couldn't even take care of herself.

What Johnny did destroyed the two families and took away Jack's two closest friends and partners. This hatred had always been buried in his heart and had not dissipated with the passage of time. Instead, it had taken root and sprouted and thrived.

The power of hatred was so horrible and it could completely change a person's character and make people do things that ordinary people could not imagine.

Fox Family was very close to Smith Family, and it wouldn't take him ten minutes to walk after he left the community.

It was Lucy who opened the door for Jack. Since Joyce developed autism, her life had been completely dependent on her mother’s caring. Her mother had to quit her job and looked after her at home.

"It's Jack. Didn't you go to make up your missed lesson today?"

"There is extra tutoring in the morning and I have a holiday in the afternoon." Jack said cheerfully and then asked, "Aunt Lucy, has Joyce eaten yet?"

"I am worried about it. I don't know what happened to her today. She hasn't eaten anything since this morning."

"Ah! She could not be allowed not to eat anything. Aunt Lucy, let me feed her." Jack changed into slippers, went to the bathroom, and washed his hands.

Aunt Lucy nodded in relief and said, "Joyce has always listened to you most. Jack, I will trouble you again this time."

Jack wiped his hands clean, walked out of the bathroom, and smiled, "Aunt Lucy, don't mention it."

He took the food prepared by Lucy and walked into Joyce's room.

The room was still tidy and spotless. There were many plush dolls piled up in the corner, which were originally Joyce's favorite dolls, but now they were just the ornaments.

On the pink bed sat a girl with her face toward the window and her back to the door. Her long, dark hair fell like a waterfall from the top of her head. She was wearing a clean white dress, but her thin shoulders couldn't even hold on to this thin dress, giving people the feeling that she could be floated away at any time.

Just looking at her back, Jack felt as if his heart had been cut by a needle. He closed the door gently, squeezed out a smile on his face, and said in a brisk tone, "Joyce, I've come to see you."

"..." The girl sat on the windowsill. She did not move, and she seemed to have never heard him.

He had become accustomed to the fact that Joyce had not said anything since that day. In the presence of her, he was used to talking to himself.

"Aunt Lucy said that you didn't eat all day and this is not allowed. Even if you feel unhappy, you can't have trouble with your body. You still have to eat."

"You are very thin now and the breeze can blow you away..." Jack was not a man of many words. Only in the presence of Joyce could he be talkative.

He put the food, bowl, and chopsticks on the writing table, pulled open the chair, and then walked over to Joyce. He squatted down and said in a low voice, "Come on, Joyce, have some food first. When you finish eating, I will tell you good news."

With this, he took Joyce's tiny hand, pulled her to the writing desk, and made her sit down.

He held chopsticks again, picked up a piece of yellow egg, and sent it to Joyce's mouth. He smiled, "Aunt Lucy is better at cooking than the cooks in the restaurant. I like it best. Joyce, you need to have some."

Joyce opened her mouth slightly and let him put eggs into her mouth.

From the beginning to the end, she was like a big doll at the mercy of others, even her eating was mechanical chewing. Although she was sitting here, her eyes were empty. No one knew where her heart had gone.

After having half a bowl of rice, Jack continued to put the food into her mouth and her tongue pushed it out immediately. He knew it was a sign that she was full.

He put down the bowl and chopsticks, pulled out the paper towel, wiped the corners of Joyce's mouth, and said softly with a smile, "Joyce, in the next three days, I will let Johnny pay for Tom and your nightmare will end."

"Aren't you happy?" Jack stroked her long hair with his hand and said with a smile, "Don't worry about me. This time, I will not be as reckless as last time. Have you ever heard of tigers devouring wolves? Even if Johnny is a wolf, there will certainly be tigers in this world that can swallow him."

"Three days, it will all end three days at most."

"When it was over, I will ask the school for a few days off, and then I will accompany you on a trip to relax."

"I think if Tom had a soul, he wouldn't want to see you like this."

"The college entrance examination is not a big deal. I am so smart that even if I take a few days off, it will not affect my results."

Jack was talking to himself. Joyce had turned to look out of the window, and her heart seemed to have flown far away.

On Monday, Jack wrapped lead around his wrists and ankles as usual and then ran to school.

It was already easy for him to run 5 kilometers. He ran the whole course in about 20 minutes, which was still the case when he didn't try his best.

The next semester of Senior Three was the tensest period for students facing the college entrance examination. Even when eating at noon, many students do exercises while eating.

However, Jack seemed relaxed. First, he didn't attach much importance to whether his college entrance examination results were good or bad. Second, his current thoughts were on how to avenge Tom.

His lunch was very simple, one bag of bread and two boxes of yogurt. Compared with the students around him who brought food, the food he ate could only be described as shabby.

"Hey, why are you eating these junk foods again today?" The girl sitting in front of him turned around and widened her already big eyes, staring at the bread and yogurt on his desk.

Her name is Ivy Oliver and she was also the monitor of Jack's class. Her academic performance was very good, and she was also very beautiful with a height of over 1.70 meters. She looked slender and well-proportioned. Ivy was a standard beautiful girl, but her character was very manly.

When she first entered high school, she was more than 1.7 meters tall, and all the boys at that time were of medium to high height. She was taller than Jack at that time. Besides studying well, she was also an athlete in the school. Although she was a beautiful girl, she had great strength.

On one occasion, she had an argument with the boy in the class. The more they quarreled, the more intense they became. Finally, they started to fight each other. Surprisingly, she not only won, but also beat the boy to tears.

The boy really cried and was beaten on the ground by Ivy. At that time, the incident caused a sensation and was passed on by the students as a "much told tale".

For a long time afterwards, Ivy was very domineering in the school, and ordinary boys did not dare to provoke her.

Jack also had conflicts with her before, but he had not remembered the reason. The only thing he remembered was that Ivy gave him a push, then he stepped back several steps in a row and sat down on the ground directly. He felt that he was not being pushed, but rather that he had received a stuffy hammering in his chest.

Since then, he had evaded the girl at a distance.

At present, Ivy was still more than 1.70 meters tall, but Jack was already equivalent to her height. Of course, they had already passed the age of slapstick, but his experience at Senior One was still fresh in his memory, which also made him still avoid her as soon as possible.

Looking at Ivy's eyes, Jack revealed his white teeth and said with a smile, "I'm used to it."

Ivy curled her lips and muttered, "No wonder you look so thin. The college entrance examination is coming soon, and it is very important for you to supplement nutrition."

"Monitor Oliver has a point and I was taught." Jack literally bowed while nodding.

Ivy fully felt his rejection of her and felt that her kindness had not been appreciated. She hummed angrily and turned angrily back.

After a while, she sat up straight again, tilted her head back, and said in a tone of charity, "I have brought too much food today. Do you want to have some?"

Long after she finished speaking, there was no reply from behind her. She couldn't help looking back and found that there was no one behind her. When she looked back again, Jack was picking up his bread and yogurt and walking out the back door of the classroom.

Jack did not dare to eat Ivy's food. If they continued to have conflicts in the future, with her temper, she would definitely be able to let him spit out her food.

Jack walked out of the classroom and went to the painting room. There was a special classroom for art students. There were not many Senior Three students and only two or three who were going to take the art school examination, so the painting room was mostly empty.

As expected, when Jack entered the painting room, there was no one in it. He closed the door conveniently and then jumped onto a book table, eating bread and drinking yogurt.

After eating for a while, he reached out his hand, took out his cell phone, and dialed a phone number.

Du, du.

The busy tone in the phone rang for a while, and finally, someone picked up the phone. A gruff voice came from the other end of the phone, "Hello? Who are you looking for?"

"Is it Johnny?" Jack asked in a confused voice while he was chewing the bread in his mouth.

"It's me. Who are you?"

"Oh, it's nothing. I'm just asking."

"Damn, are you sick? Where did you get my phone number..." Before his scolding was finished, Jack hung up the phone directly.
