Chapter 10 Exposure

"Wilson, this boy fails to appreciate your kindness." A big fellow looked at Jack angrily and scolded.

Wilson gave the big fellow a hard look and then said, "You have to find out which school he belongs to and what his family does. I want to know everything about him."

"Wilson, I think he is a student..."

"Just do it and don't talk so much nonsense." After being reprimanded by Wilson, the big fellows around were scared to shrink their necks and did not dare to continue talking.

For more than two years, the death of Tom had been a hidden scar in Jack's heart that could not be untied. Since Johnny was dead, Jack felt relieved at last.

However, after the end of all this, he did not have the expected ecstasy, but he was still thinking about whether he was right or wrong in doing so and whether he was a murderer now.

The next day, Jack ran to school as usual, and this had become his habit.

When he was coming near the school, a black car came suddenly and stopped at the side of the road only half a meter away from him. As soon as the car door opened, there was a deep, magnetic voice coming inside, "Come in."

Jack felt stunned, lowered his head slowly, and looked into the car. There were two people sitting in the car. One was the driver and the other was sitting in the back. This was a middle-aged man he had never seen before.

The man was in his forties, who was handsome with a red face, wore the gold-rimmed eyeglasses, a straight gray suit, and a straight tie. He still had a newspaper in his hand, which made him look like the Boss of a certain company.

After sizing up him for a while, Jack asked doubtfully, "Do we...Know each other?"

The middle-aged man in the back seat smiled and said, "Are you Jack?"

Jack felt stunned. How did he know his name?

The middle-aged man seemed to see the doubt in his heart, and the smile on his face became stronger and he said, "I know not only your name, but also what you did last night."

What he said was like a heavy bomb exploded in Jack's heart. He widened his eyes suddenly and showed a look of shock, but he soon came to his senses and shook his head and said, "I don't know what you are talking about. I'm going to school."

With this, he turned to go.

The middle-aged man sniggered and said, "I think you can't go to school now and you can only go to the public Bureau A."

Jack took his feet back, turned, and stared at the middle-aged man in the car. After a long time, he asked, "Are you a policeman?"

"Come in and sit down." The middle-aged man patted the leather chair beside him and said to Jack with a smile.

If this was a disaster, he couldn't hide. Jack muttered in his heart, bent down his waist, and sat in the car.

"Close the door." While talking, the middle-aged man put his newspaper on Jack's leg.

Jack closed the car door promptly and picked up the newspaper on his leg in confusion. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the shocking headline on the front page of the newspaper, "The Unfinished Residential Building Showed A Mysterious Murder Again."

There was also a large photo under the title. Even though many places in the photo were mosaic, Jack could still recognize that it was the scene where Johnny was killed.

"You are very familiar with the photos, right?" The middle-aged man looked at Jack, who looked calm, and said with a smile, "You are so calm. There seems to be a calmness in you that is beyond your age, even though your heart has already begun to swell."

"I don't even know what you're talking about..."

"If you don't know about it, you won't get in my car." The middle-aged man said confidently.

"Who the hell are you? Are you a policeman? If you think I have anything to do with the story reported in the newspaper and you happen to have evidence, you can arrest me directly..."

Jack said impatiently. Before he had finished his bluff, the middle-aged man took out his cell phone, handed it to him casually, and smiled, "Have a look."

After taking over his mobile phone, Jack looked down at the video interface displayed on the screen. He turned it on subconsciously and it began to show what happened last night on the roof of the unfinished residential building.

Interestingly, the shooting angle of this video was exactly the same as that of the video he used to threaten Johnny.

He was shocked secretly. He went to inspect the vicinity of the unfinished residential building specially before. There was no camera around, but where did this video come from?

He was not used to and hated being threatened by others, although he was not clear about the specific purpose of them, his intuition told him that this was definitely not a good thing.

He returned the cell phone to the middle-aged man and said with a straight face, "Yes, I was there when Johnny was killed, but his death had nothing to do with me. This video was taken very clearly and you should have seen it. He was pushed downstairs by others. I just happened to pass by."

"Ha-ha." The middle-aged man was amused and said, "As a high school student who is about to take the college entrance examination, it is hard to convince others that you did not review or sleep at home in the middle of the night, but ran more than ten miles away from home and you were on the roof."

"You can think that I was sleepwalking..."

"Well, I don't want to talk nonsense with you anymore. Since you don't want to say it, I'll help you." The middle-aged man said slowly, "You and Johnny are enemies because your best friend was pushed down and killed by Johnny in that unfinished building."

He spoke slowly and his tone of voice was calm, but Jack broke out the cold sweat and his face began to change.

"Later, you got a video of your friend being killed accidentally, but instead of calling the police, you kept the video. You may not trust the police and you may want to revenge yourself, or both. You are a very patient person. You have been waiting for an opportunity that you think is flawless and impeccable. As a result, it took you more than two years to finally wait for such an opportunity. Johnny made a big mistake, that was, he had an affair with Wilson's wife."

"You went to find Wilson first and made a deal with him. You used the video to threaten Johnny and lured him out to meet with you. Johnny thought that you just want to blackmail him some money, but he never thought that what you want was not only his money, but also his life..."

"He deserved it." Jack was not willing to continue to listen and clenched his fist suddenly. His narrowing eyes also couldn't keep out the light emitted from it.

He gnashed his teeth and said harshly, "It is only natural that people should be a life for a life and pay the debt. What's wrong with me doing this? Johnny should have died a long time ago, and I allow him to live for more than two years. This is God's mercy to him."

"Whether a person should die is not up to you, but should be determined by law. What's the use of the law if everyone is lynching like you to solve the problem? What's the use of the police?"

"The law? The police? If the law and the police can punish all those who commit the most heinous crimes, then who will take the risk of doing bad things? If the law and the police lose fairness and justice, what else are they called law and police?"

The middle-aged man did not answer, staring at Jack intently.

The car became quiet instantly and even made people hear their heartbeat. In a time as if a century had passed, the middle-aged man slowly opened his mouth and said, "Yes, therefore, it needs some people to maintain the fairness and justice of the law."

Jack looked at the middle-aged man confusedly.

The middle-aged man said seriously, "I am not a policeman. I am an audit."

"Audit? Do you audit the finance?" Jack asked subconsciously.

The middle-aged man was amused. He nodded, and then shook his head and said, "You seem to know much. However, the one you mentioned is a financial audit, which has little to do with us."

"That you are..."

"We belong to government agencies."

Jack showed a more intense puzzled expression on his face.

"Are you really bold enough?"

"What?"

"Or are you afraid of death?"

Jack was stunned by his question. He didn't even know what he was asking for.

"If you are bold enough not to fear death, I hope you can join our audit team. I think you should have a deep understanding of the harm of social injustice, and the duty of the audit is to investigate and punish injustice. What about it? Are you interested?"

He did not come to arrest him, but invited him to join in his team! This huge contrast caught Jack off guard and he kept staring at the middle-aged man. After a long time, he did not come to his senses.

After a long time, he murmured, "I... I don't even know you."

"But I know you! Barry." With the middle-aged man's voice, the man sitting in the driver's seat turned around, looked at Jack with a smile, and asked, "Do you still remember me?"

Jack looked up and took a look. He hesitated for a moment at first, opened his big mouth involuntarily, pointed to the driver, and said, "Is it...You?"
