Chapter 12 End

Since then, Jack had checked the contents related to the audit and had searched at Baidu and Google, but the results of his search were very strange. Most of them were auditors of a certain company or financial auditing and there was no such department in the government.

He also had to doubt whether the director of the audit bureau was Bruce's real identity, or whether he was just a liar and coerced him to join it for some purpose.

Of course, it was not difficult to verify Bruce's true identity, but if he was really a liar, the consequence would be very serious.

Jack did not lie. He did not intend to leave alone the one million cash he received from Johnny.

For others, a million was a lot of money. But for Jack, that was really not much. He handled more than a million yuan a month.

It had been more than a year since the disappearance of the uncle, but he still abided by the promise entrusted to him by the uncle before leaving, transferred the money on time on the 15th of each month, and then transferred 200,000 US dollars to the mysterious account.

Bruce knew everything about him, but he seemed only not to know this. Otherwise, Jack believed Bruce would certainly ask him about this matter.

This morning, Jack went out of the house early with his schoolbag as usual. Today, his schoolbag was very heavy, but it was not the book but one million yuan in cash.

The first thing he did was to call the head teacher and ask the teacher for a day's sick leave immediately after he left the house. After that, he carried a bag of money and went to Tom's home first.

Brown Family's condition was far less than Fox Family's. Although they lived in the same block, the house Brown Family lived in was a shabby and old tube-shaped apartment that was built more than 20 years ago.

Tom’s parents were laid-off workers, while Tom’s father worked part-time outside, and Kate who was in poor health worked irregularly. After the death of Tom, this made the already poor family even worse.

When Jack arrived, Kate was at home. Seeing him, she seemed very happy and enthusiastically invited him into the room.

The house was still the same as it used to be, and it hadn't changed much. Especially in Tom's room, all the furnishings had not changed, as if he had never left.

Jack felt painful inside after watching it, and his eyes gradually became moistened.

When Tom was still alive, Jack often came to play. After his death, he did not come often. This was not that he didn't care about it, but that he felt really ashamed to continue to come over.

His best friend died in vain, but he was helpless about it. What face did he have to meet Tom's parents?

Now, he finally had the courage to come over.

He put down his schoolbag, opened the zipper, took out a dozen brand-new banknotes from the inside, and put them on the table.

After seeing this, Tom’s mother was shocked, widened her eyes, and stammered, "Jack, what... What are you doing?"

"Aunt Kate the murderer who killed Tom has been caught. The money is his compensation." Jack took out 50 bundles of banknotes from his schoolbag at one time. After thinking for a moment, he took out another ten bundles and put them all on the table.

He intended to divide the million equally among the Brown Family and the Fox Family, but looking at the old furnishings in the house and the empty rooms in Tom, he felt that Brown Family should get more compensation.

After placing 600,000 yuan in cash at the table, he patted with his hand and said, "Aunt Kate, this is 600,000 yuan in cash. Although it is said that no amount of money can bring Tom’s life back, you can always make life easier with these compensations."

Tom’s mother didn't look at the money on the table, staring blankly at Jack and asked trembly, "Was the murderer really being caught? My Tom didn't fall down the stairs?"

"Yes...Yes. The murderer has been punished by law. Tom was pushed down the stairs by the murderer..." Jack bowed his head, sobbed, and couldn't say more. Tom’s mother had collapsed on the ground and burst into tears.

Jack lifted Tom's mother hurriedly from the ground and let her sit in a chair. He looked back at Tom's room, closed his eyes, and sighed. He murmured in his heart, Tom, if you had a soul, now you could finally close your eyes at peace.

It was not until noon that Jack left the Brown Family with a heavy heart and then he went to the Fox Family.

Because of his relationship with Joyce, Jack often visited the Fox Family. Sometimes he would help feed the food and sometimes he would chat with Joyce, but these so-called chats were his self-talking.

When he arrived at Fox Family, he took out all the 400,000 cash left in his schoolbag and gave it to Lucy. He said the same words as he said to Tom’s mother, indicating that the murderer had fallen into the law and that this was the murderer's compensation.

After hearing his story, Lucy felt very complicated. Although she was not as excited as Tom’s mother, she sat in a chair silently wiping away tears.

Jack comforted her for a while, got up, and walked into Joyce's room.

He closed the door slowly. Jack walked to the front of the bed and looked at Joyce sitting on it. He forced down his sadness and said with a forced smile, "Joyce, I have good news for you. Johnny, who killed Tom, was dead."

He thought what he said would make Joyce have some reaction, but she was still sitting on the bed motionless and there was no expression on her face. Her eyes were still empty, and her body was like an empty shell without a soul. Jack didn't even know if she heard what he said.

"Johnny was killed by pushing down the stairs! It was still in that building and still on that roof. He fell and was killed! This is a karma. This is the result he deserves."

Jack sat down at the edge of the bed slowly, looked Joyce straight in the eye, and said with a smile, "Joyce, the hatred of Tom has been avenged. You don't have to worry about the bad guys coming to bully you anymore. You should be happy."

"Are you worried about me? You don't have to worry. The police cannot find me."

"Do you still remember what I said to you about driving tigers to devour wolves? There is no flaw in the whole thing. Even if I am found, they have no evidence to accuse me. Am I very good?"

Jack said to himself with a satisfied smile, but his tears fell unconsciously.

"By the way..." He noticed the tears on his face and quickly raised his hand to wipe it. He took a deep breath and continued to say with a smile, "The last time I came, I said when it was over, I'll take you out for a while. Do you want to go to the seaside or to see the scenery?"

He remembered something suddenly and then patted his head with his hand and said, "If you want to see the sea, you can also see it in our City D. I think we should see the mountains and rivers. Let's go to Mount Tai first. We can climb a mountain and look far ahead. Mount Tai is also very close to us."

"Then, we can also go..."

When he was talking, Joyce, who had been motionless before, suddenly leaned forward, opened her arms, and hugged him.

Jack was shocked. This was the first time in more than two years that Joyce had made such a big response to him, and it was the first time that she had interacted with him.

He was stunned and allow Joyce to hug him. After a long time, he came to his senses suddenly. He wanted to see Joyce's face, but he did not dare to push her away. He warbled, "Joyce..."

She did not respond, just holding him gently. He didn't know how long had passed, maybe a few seconds or a few minutes, she loosened his arm slowly, lifted up her head, and relied on back to the head of a bed. The expression on her face was still dull, as if nothing happened just now.

"Joyce?" Jack called her name softly, but no one knew where her soul had flown.

She just had only a short reaction, and now she had returned to normal. Jack felt disappointed and delighted at the same time. After all, this was a good start. He believed that as long as he continued to work harder and took more time to accompany her, Joyce would surely get better and become a normal person.

He didn't know since when he had already made plans for the future. When he graduated from college, he would marry Joyce. he didn't know if his affection for Joyce was love, but he was sure that it was his responsibility to take care of Joyce.

This was a day for Jack to have mixed feelings of grief and joy, and it was also a day for him to make a thoroughly clean break with the past. In the future, there would be no hatred in his life and he would lead the life that ordinary people should lead.

When he returned home, it was already over 6 o'clock in the evening. Leon was at home and Emma was also there.

Emma didn't often come to Smith Family, or Leon didn't often bring her back, although they were already very close boyfriend and girlfriend.

In Jack's impression, his elder brother had many girlfriends, but only Emma was brought home by his elder brother.

Seeing that Emma just wore light makeup and was still wearing a lovely apron, Jack smiled and said, "Emma, you are here."

"Yes, I didn’t come here often and I was used by your brother as a servant."

Emma shuttled back and forth between the kitchen and dining room and then put plates of food on the dining table, looking very busy. Leon was leisurely sitting in the living room, sitting on the sofa, stretching his legs, and watching TV seriously.

Leon's chauvinism was so strong and no one could understand it more deeply than Jack. He pulled off his coat, rolled up his sleeves, went to wash his hands, and said, "Emma, I'll help you."

Emma smiled happily and said, the younger brother is the cutest and you are much better than someone." When talking, she also specially turned over her eyes to Leon in the living room.

"Men are responsible for outside affairs and women are responsible for family affairs, this is natural. If marrying a wife is to support her, wouldn't it be easier for me to go directly to the temple and invite a Buddha home?" Leon shook his legs and said slowly.

"Younger brother, listen to what your elder brother said." Emma pouted helplessly while showing a supercilious look, but she could not hide the joy at her face.

What Leon said simply took her as his wife, and this was exactly what Emma dreamed of.

No one could deny that Leon was an outstanding man, who was young, handsome, and rich. There had never been a shortage of women around him. It was also a very proud and unexpected thing for Emma to successfully capture his heart.
