Chapter 5 Aunt Anna Wants to Sell Me to a Man

Grace Wood, who was snuggling up to her fiancé, echoed her mother, "Exactly, Mary. Mr. Carter likes you a lot. You are going to rise to the top. We have agreed to his proposal, so be good and follow Mr. Carter. Your happiness is waiting for you ahead.

Mary looked at her uncle in disbelief. "Uncle Frank, is that true? Did you say yes to him?"

Frank avoided looking at his niece directly and replied, "Mary, Mr. Carter has said he is really fond of you. Why don't you just go with him?"

At this moment, Eric revealed a complacent smile while staring at the woman, who had no way to escape from his palms.

Mary shed two lines of tears. "Uncle Frank, how can you do this? You are selling me to him."

It was well-known in town that Eric Carter was a ladykiller and that his ex-wife killed herself by jumping off a building due to his evildoing. Even so, the woman's uncle wanted her to marry the man.

Anna's thin and high voice sounded again, "Mary, you shall not speak like that. Don't take us wrong. We're doing this for your own sake. For so many years, your uncle has paid you for everything. It's time for you to do something in return."

It was clear that Eric must have given the Wood Family a big fortune to convince them.

Mary stood still and buried her face in her hands, crying. She had not expected her uncle would agree to sell her to a terrible man.

Seeing that his niece was crying, Frank was still touched. "Mary, don't worry. Eric has promised me that he will be kind to you."

Mary wiped her cheeks and lifted her head. She saw the disdainful expression upon her aunt's face, the evil look of her cousins, and the tears in her uncle's eyes.

Though she had lived with the family for twelve years, she was acutely aware that if her father had not provided them with a good amount of money, Aunt Anna would have long kicked her out of the house.

Besides, she had no idea why her cousins, with who she had grown up, were so eager to push her into a fire pit.

In fact, apart from her Uncle Frank, there was another person who was concerned with her. That was Scott Wood, Mia and Grace's brother. If he were here, he certainly would have refused Eric Cater. However, he went abroad three years ago.

After casting a glance at the Wood Family, Mary abruptly turned to run away.

Eric swiftly reacted by saying, "Catch her!"

Two subordinates of his then run after Mary.

Mary ran downstairs, saw Mrs. Ward, the domestic servant, and said to her, "Mrs. Ward, Aunt Anna is selling me to a man. Please call Brother Scott and ask him to help me."

Mrs. Ward instantly took out her phone and made a call to Scott.

"Stop, don't move!"

Eric's subordinates were catching up.

Mary noticed the pursuers, grabbed Mrs. Ward's cell phone, and ran outwards.

She ran as fast as if her life depended on that.

Finally, Scott's voice came from the other end of the line. "Hello?"

While running at full speed, Mary could not help but appeal for help in a tearful voice. "Brother Scott, help, help me!"

Upon hearing Mary's voice, Scott shouted anxiously, "Mary, what happened? Tell me, what's the matter?"

"Ah!" Suddenly, Mary fell, and the phone was flung away in the process.

"Stop, don't move!"

Those men who were running after the woman were getting closer.

Given no time to pick the phone up, Mary got up from the ground and continued running like hell.

Though Mary was in heels, her speed was still quite fast. There was only one thought in her mind that she must not let herself fall into those peoples' hands. Otherwise, her life would be ruined entirely.

The call was still not hung up. Scott heard the yelling of several men and the crying of his cousin. However, he could do nothing but shout anxiously, "Mary! Mary!"

No one answered him.
