Chapter 9 She Is Quite Tough
When the cell phone rang again, Mary Miller was crying. She picked it up and saw the name "Maggie" on the screen.
It could be conjectured that the girl must be looking for Mike Johnson. Therefore, Mary did not answer the call. However, the person did not give up but kept phoning.
Mary had to answer, "Hello?"
Upon hearing Mary's voice, the other woman instantly became alert. "Who are you?"
"I am... Well. I am just using this phone temporarily." Mary did not know how to answer.
Feeling irritated, the other woman interrupted Mary. "Bitch! Brother Mike is mine. Stop annoying him, and don't even think about it. I'm telling you, give the phone to its owner right away. Otherwise, I will arrange for people to torture you."
Mary decidedly hung up, wondering, "What a crazy woman! What's her relationship with Mike Johnson?"
The next night, Mary went out with the phone in her hand, wearing a black cap and a fuscous dress.
She planned to buy some daily necessities from the supermarket opposite the hostel.
Mike waited for Mary for three days, thinking that she would come back to him.
However, it turned out that the woman was quite tough.
The man had learned that Mary's foster family wanted to sell her to a man. Therefore, he was originally confident that she would return to his side for protection and help.
Gently shaking the wine glass in his hand, the man said, "Hank, check the location of my phone immediately."
In this manner, he could easily find out the whereabouts of Mary.
"Yes, Young Master Mike."
While waiting for the traffic light to turn green, Mary lifted her head and noticed there was a huge digital billboard ahead of her.
On the screen, a handsome, stunning man walked out of a building with several bodyguards around, and countless reporters rushed up to interview him.
"Mr. Johnson..."
"Mr. Johnson, we heard that the Johnson Group has acquired Global Elegance Media. Is that true?"
"Mr. Johnson, is EV Jewellery under the Johnson Group going public?"
Staring at the billboard, Mary even did not notice the traffic light she was waiting had already turned green. It was the man who had saved her from the sea on the screen, i.e., Mike Johnson, the new president of the Johnson Group.
She kept seeing him in the news these two days, who appeared confident and noble like a superstar that the ordinary could only appreciate from a distance.
From Mary's point of view, it seemed that the man was smiling at her and giving off a kingly vibe.
Following the news, it was an advertisement for EV Jewellery. An elegant female celebrity, who was wearing a sparkling necklace, appeared in the picture.
And she said, "EV perfects a woman."
Mary entered the supermarket and picked up a piece of soap, a bottle of shampoo, a toothbrush and a tube of toothpaste from the shelf as she was not satisfied with those provided by the humble hostel.
Mia Wood happened to be purchasing something in the same shop together with her boyfriend. She spotted Mary's figure and instantly found it familiar.
The two women had grown up in the same house. Thus, it was no surprise for one to recognize the other even though the latter was wearing a hat. Knowing that Eric Carter could not find Mary and wanted the Wood Family to return the money he had paid, Mia was, of course, pleased to meet her cousin here by chance.
Neither Mia nor her mother was willing to give such a large sum of money back to Mr. Cater. Therefore, the woman and her boyfriend quietly hid behind the shelf.
Mia took out her cell phone and called Eric. "Hi, Mr. Carter. Mary and I are now in the same supermarket. I'll send you the location on Messenger, you'd better hurry to come with your subordinates."
After collecting the stuff that she needed, Mary went to the checkout counter and paid the bill by PayPal.
She then stepped out of the shop.
Seeing that Mary was leaving, Mia followed her up.
Mia made her way through the crowd at the entrance of the shopping center and called, "Mary, Mary."
The other woman looked back, and her expression changed instantly upon she saw Mia. "It's you."
It was Mia who had drugged Mary on that cruise ship and then pushed her into Eric Carter's room.
Mia walked over to Mary, grabbed her by the arm, and said, "Where have you been? Come home with me. My dad has been looking for you."
