Chapter 10 Dizzy with Anger
Dorothy brought the rice over and filled two bowls.
Zack walked into the dining room, saw the rice, and frowned again, "What is this?"
"Food," Dorothy replied.
"Of course I know it's food!" Zack was irritated, "I'm asking you what kind of food it is!"
"Rice."
"If it's rice, why there is soup in it?"
"Oh, then it's porridge!"
"Why is the porridge so dry?"
Dorothy couldn't answer.
"Have you never cooked in the past of your life?" Zack looked at her and asked with suppressed anger.
Even a rich man like him knew how to cook, but Dorothy, a rural girl, had no idea how to do that?
"Of course I have," she explained, "We cook rice with a strainer, not the pot you use!"
"A strainer?" Zack didn't understand, "What strainer?"
"A strainer is made of bamboo splits, which can filter rice water."
Zack remembered the stuff he used to filter water in the kitchen. It was a plastic basket. How could he cook rice with that?
"How do you cook with a strainer?" he asked again.
"Well..." Dorothy said as she gestured with both hands, "First boil the rice in a pot. When it stretches, use a big strainer with such size to strain the rice, and then..."
She was talking about filtering rice, which was very popular in the countryside. It was with good taste, but was a little troublesome to cook.
"Okay, okay!" Zack became more confused as he listened. Rice stretching? What a mess.
His face became gloomy, "Let's eat!"
He picked up a spare rib and put it in his mouth. But after chewing it for a long time, not only did he fail to eat it, but also his teeth were stuffed by the tendons of the rib.
Zack had to stop first and took out the toothpick to pick the tendon between his teeth. He couldn't even eat without picking it out. The teeth were too uncomfortable.
However, since he bit the rib too hard, the tendons were stuffed tight between his teeth that he couldn't even clean them.
He tilted his head and changed directions several times to pick them out. After his left hand failed, he used his right hand.
Dorothy tilted her head and chewed ribs while looking at him with her big eyes blinking. She even felt sorry for him to see him like that.
Zack finally picked out the tendons with great effort.
The teeth were comfortable, so he continued to fight against the ribs, but after a while, his teeth were stuffed by the tendons again.
Zack was so angry that he threw the ribs on the table, "What are these?"
Dorothy blinked, "Spare ribs!"
Seeing Dorothy's innocent look, Zack got dizzy out of anger. He got up and walked out of the dining room.
"Aren't you having more meals?" Dorothy asked while looking at his back.
Zack ignored her and went upstairs.
Dorothy ate the meal alone, but the ribs were chewy. Obviously, they were not steamed.
She didn't know that she could have used the pressure cooker but cooked it in a wok. After a long time of boiling, she thought it was almost done, but it was not.
Dorothy cleaned up the pots and bowls and started cleaning the kitchen.
There were a lot of water stains on the kitchen floor. Mrs. Hunter had said that after finishing the work in the kitchen every day, the water stains on the floor should be mopped up immediately, or people might fall.
Dorothy was mopping the floor, then she heard someone call "hey" upstairs.
She paused, thinking that Zack might be talking to her, but he only said "hey", nothing else. Dorothy assumed that he might be calling someone.
At Zack's mother's house, she had seen them make a phone call and start with "hey", so she lowered her head and continued to mop the floor.
"Hey! Hey! Hey!" Zack shouted several times toward downstairs, but the girl didn't respond.
He was in rage and ran downstairs angrily, grabbing Dorothy's shoulder and yanking hard. Dorothy was turned around by him and fell straight into his arms since she failed to stand.
Zack pushed her away angrily, "Are you deaf or dumb? Why didn't you respond when I called you?"
Dorothy blinked, "I thought you were calling someone."
"You thought? What am I calling for? I was calling you!" Zack glared at her.
"My name is Dorothy Field!" She explained, "But you just called "Hey"."
"You!" Zack was so angry that he turned and walked upstairs. When he walked to the corner of the stairs, he turned around and shouted, "Come upstairs!" He stepped upstairs first.
Dorothy put down the mop and went upstairs to the door of Zack's bedroom.
Zack sat by the bed and glared at her, "Why are you standing there? Come on in!"
Dorothy entered the room and stopped.
Zack was angry, "Will I eat you or something? Get your ass here!"
Dorothy had to walk a few steps toward him, stopped in the middle of the room, and said, "What's the matter?"
Zack's gaze fell on her face, staring straight at her for a while. He didn't speak until Dorothy blushed, "Why were you in my bed that night?"
