Chapter 21 It Was a Good Name
Dorothy blushed and did not respond.
Zack warned her not to say that she was his wife. And she did not know how to answer the question when she did not know Blake.
Blake turned to Zack, "Zack, who is she?"
Zack said, "The new maid."
"New maid? When is she here? Where is Mrs. Hunter?"
"Mrs. Hunter's daughter-in-law gave birth to a baby. She returned home to help."
"Well," Blake said, "That explains. I am wondering why you don't want Mrs. Hunter. She is a good lady."
Blake looked at Dorothy, "Girl, what's your name?"
Dorothy answered without thinking, "I am Dottie Field."
"Dottie Field?"
Zack let out a fierce cough.
Dorothy saw his gloomy face and remembered that Zack had forbidden her from saying that name. She hurried to explain, "No...no, I am not Dottie Field, I am Dorothy Field!"
"Dorothy Field?" Blake smiled, "It is a good name."
Zack went upstairs together with Blake, with his arm around her. When they were just about to disappear from the stairs, Blake suddenly turned back to Dorothy, "Dorothy!"
Dorothy raised her head to look at her.
Blake asked, "Can I call you Dorothy?"
Dorothy nodded and smiled, "Of course."
"That's fine." Blake said politely, "Dorothy, would you mind sending us two cups of tea, please?"
"Okay," Dorothy answered.
When she brought the tea to the second floor and went into the living room, Zack and Blake were kissing on the sofa.
Although she did not have such experiences, she could understand what they were doing. She blushed and hurried to leave the room and stood outside the room. She planned to send the tea a few moments later.
Yet Zack had seen her, "Why you don't come in?"
"Okay," Dorothy answered and pushed the door carefully. She calmed down now when she saw they sat together but did not kiss each other. And she put the tea on the table.
When she raised her head, Blake's mouth was approaching Zack's face again.
Dorothy blushed even more and hurried to close the door before she left the living room.
Zack was watching Dorothy at that time. He saw her blushing face and her embarrassment.
An evil thought occurred to him. It seemed that Dorothy was quite unfamiliar with the things between a man and a woman. She was blushing even when she saw people kissing.
Then he suddenly remembered the fact that Dorothy was his namely wife now. It could be strange to kiss another woman in front of her.
But on the other hand, Dorothy could not be his wife when he denied their marriage. And there was nothing wrong to kiss the woman he loved.
His brain was still messed although he had persuaded himself. Sense and sensibility had occupied the two parts of his brain respectively. At this moment, he thought it did not matter; in the next moment, he cared it much. To put it in simple words, he could not concentrate on kissing Blake as before.
He could not ease himself when there was a namely wife in his home.
Standing outside the room, Dorothy calmed down her fast heartbeat after a while.
And she was in a daze when she went back to the kitchen and started thinking about what she had seen.
Now she realized that the girl kissed Zack was Blake Cotton, the girlfriend of Zack mentioned by Mrs. Hunter.
So, it was the truth that her husband had a girlfriend, a beautiful girlfriend.
Then why he did not marry Blake, but Dorothy?
And now Dorothy was Zack's wife. Why did Zack still get together with his girlfriend? Why?
She thought about the girl who kissed Zack and was not surprised that Zack would love her. After all, she was attractive, fashionable, and elegant.
Dorothy was a little bit upset about the fact that he loved another woman instead of his wife.
Then she remembered that he had denied their marriage, which was to say, he did not regard her as his wife.
So, it didn't matter if he kissed another woman when he did not take her as his wife.
Was that she was the wrong one? But what did she do wrong?
Dorothy was muddled.
And she did not want to think about it anymore since she could not figure out the answer. If he said she was the maid, then she would do what a maid would do.
As for what a wife should do, she would leave that to other women. Yes, she could leave it to the woman upstairs.
Thinking of this, Dorothy relieved herself. She did not have any affection for Zack, so she was not jealous at all.
Dorothy had the meal done and went upstairs to tell them. Zack and Blake went down together hand in hand.
Blake said softly, "Zack, I want to sit by your side."
Zack did not say anything.
Blake took his silence as agreement, "Dorothy, please put my seat near him."
So, Dorothy picked up a chair and put it near Zack's seat.
Blake invited Zack to sit down, picked a piece of meat, and handed it to Zack's mouth, "Here you are, Zack."
Zack opened his mouth and ate it. Again, Blake picked some garlic sprouts for him, "It tastes good."
Dorothy was embarrassed about their intimate behavior.
Blake noticed Dorothy standing there, "Dorothy, why not sit down and have a meal?"
Dorothy dared not sit and she was afraid that Zack would shout at her in front of Blake.
She had a sense of dignity although she was a maid now. She would feel ashamed if she was punished in front of another woman.
She shook her head, blushing, "I will eat later."
Blake was confused, "Why?"
"I..." Dorothy did not know how to explain it.
And Zack said without expression, "Go and cook a bowl of soup."
"Yes." Dorothy hurried to go to the kitchen.
When she was back with the soup, she saw Blake and Zack eating the same piece of meat mouth to mouth. Her face turned red immediately.
Blake did not eat fat, so she held the lean side of the pork and stretches it to Zack. Zack would bite the fat side so that the lean and the fat could separate once they worked together.
That was what Dorothy saw when she entered the room.
Zack gave Dorothy his bowl before she put down the soup and wanted to leave. He had eaten up his rice.
Dorothy hurried to pick up the bowl to get him more rice, and she heard Blake say, "Zack, help me with this piece of meat."
Dorothy handed Zack his bowl and her heartbeat raced. She dared not glance at them and ran out of the dining room with her head lowered.
Although they did not care about her presence, she could not treat them as if they were invisible.
Tonight, Zack's behavior made Dorothy embarrassed, and made Blake surprised.
It was not that Zack refused to behave affectionately toward Blake. But he could only ease himself and do that where there were only them two. And he never did that in front of others.
But tonight, Although Zack was not active as usual, he did not refuse intimate behavior. That surprised Blake a lot.
It took a long time for them to finish the meal.
Zack and Blake went upstairs arm in arm. When they arrived at the corner of the stairs, Zack looked behind and saw Dorothy come into the dining room and sit at the dining table.
Dorothy started to eat alone when laughter from upstairs.
Zack was in a strange and complex mood. On one hand, he was pent up; On the other hand, he wanted to be relieved from that feeling.
Blake's being active was just like a hand that could save him from hell. He tried hard to escape from the depressive feeling in the dining room. When he was in the living room, he became excited and played with Blake without considering anything else.
And they chased each other in the living room while Blake was running and laughing.
Zack said, "Blake, come here. Or I will eat you if I catch you!"
"Dare you!" Blake laughed even louder.
Dorothy frowned as she could hear their conversation. It seemed that they did not close their door.
It did not take long before Zack guffawed, "Now I catch you! You say, what should I do to you?"
"Well, I have no money but myself. I will leave you to do the choice." Blake giggled.
"I don't want money. Then give me yourself!"
Zack's difference surprised Blake once more. He used to be a serious man who would never flirt with her in such a way.
Zack and Oliver were different people. Zack was a serious man who seldom told jokes. And his expression was serious even when he tried to tell one.
Yet Oliver was different. Every word he said would be joking. It seemed that he could not talk normally without his dirty jokes.
But Zack was different from what he used to be today. He not only flirted with Blake but also said that without shutting the door.
Dorothy heard some crazy voices and her heartbeat raced at Blake's screaming.
Dorothy hurried to finish her meal, brought all bowls and dishes into the kitchen, and started to wash them. The kitchen was away from the stairs. And the sound of water covered the strange voices coming from upstairs.
Dorothy came out of the kitchen and heard nothing this time after she had washed all the dishes and swept the floor. She did not know if they were outing or still on the second floor. She dared not go upstairs to find the truth nor go to sleep first.
It was because Zack had said that she could not sleep when he did not.
So, she sat in the living room on the first floor, and she sat there for a long time. She was so bored and sleepy that she could hardly keep her eyes open. She was in dire of good sleep.
Being afraid that she would fall asleep, she kept walking around the room and then sat down. She had no idea when it was and finally fell asleep.
When she suddenly woke up with a start, there was no sound upstairs. She went back to her room, looked at the clock, and found it was 2 a.m. She thought they must have slept already.
After yawning for numerous times, she could not keep her mind clear anymore. She went to her bed and fell asleep without considering anything else.
There was a boom when Dorothy was woken from her dream. She opened her eyes only to find Zack kicking up the door and standing in front of her bed angrily.
"What...What do you want?" Dorothy asked.
She was now bleary-eyed, muddle-headed, and could not figure out what had happened.
Zack was more enraged at her sleepy answer, "Come upstairs right now!"
Not knowing what he wanted, Dorothy looked at him and did not move.
Zack yelled at her at the door when he found that Dorothy did not get up at all, "Two minutes! I must see you well dressed upstairs!"
Now Dorothy got nervous. She hurried to get up and dressed.
While she was dressing, she glanced at the clock on the wall. It was ten to nine currently. She got up late because she stayed up late last night.
