Chapter 5 I Would Never Choose a Devil like You
Abigail never dreamed George would treat her with an ounce of fairness or respect.
Seeing the woman performed as if it were someone else who had just got hit and humiliated, George felt like his fist had landed in a ball of cotton. With flames of fury surging up deep inside, he narrowed his eyes slightly and said disdainfully, "Well, I'd like to see what you are going to show us."
In his understanding, the woman was just an adoptive daughter of the Grey Family. Though she had majored in accounting at university, she had no work experience. If Grandfather Oliver had not put her into the position of the director of the finance department, she would not be qualified to become an ordinary clerk in that department.
George straightened up, waiting to see what was going to happen.
Under the man's coercive gaze, Abigail felt pressured. She took a deep breath to suppress the sensation of nervousness, got up, and walked over to the rostrum. Shen then slowly inserted the flash drive into the computer, clicked on the PowerPoint, and turned on the projector.
She had never done a presentation of financial analysis before. However, when she was at the Grey Family, she used to visit the Grey Group frequently, together with Arthur Grey, her adoptive father. Therefore, she had witnessed other people's presentations many times. Besides, she had spent the latter term of her final year in college working as an intern at a company and thus had acquired a certain level of experience.
In fact, she had begun to prepare for the presentation she was going to deliver two days ago so that George would not grasp a flaw of hers when she would present it at the end of the month as originally planned. Unexpectedly, this day had come so early.
After making all the preparations, the nervousness in her heart had dissipated, and with a confident glance around at the crowd, she began to speak.
She was in a simple but elegant professional woman's suit, which perfectly set off her curvy figure. The pair of six-centimeter white high heels she was wearing made her slender legs look even longer and more delicate, and those men in the audience simply could not take their eyes off her pale, pretty lower legs.
She tilted her bangs to reveal a third of her full, smooth forehead, giving off a professional yet feminine vibe.
Her voice was neither too soft nor too tough, but clear and pleasant.
Witnessing this unseen side of the woman, George, who was sitting closest to the rostrum, somehow thought of the night when they were in the same bed, and that Abigail encircled his waist with her slender, pretty legs. He could vividly recall the inviting expression on her face at that time. His throat was moving up and down and the look in George's eyes changed subtly. Somehow, he felt thirsty.
"Pour me some water." He irritably released the two buttons under his collar and cursed in a low voice, "Damn it."
Julia, standing on one side of George, heard that there was a trace of fidget in the man's tone. She felt slightly confused but did not overthink, and she turned to get a glass of cold water for him.
Abigail quickly finished her presentation. While walking back to her seat with the flash drive in hand, she somehow tripped over her left leg, screamed, and fell into George's arms.
For a moment, the atmosphere in the conference room was frozen.
George's blood seemed to stagnate at that moment, and the woman in his arms felt soft and smelt aromatic.
He was startled, and by the time he came back to his senses, Abigail had left his arms in a panic.
"Sorry." Without waiting for George to say anything, Abigail apologized and forced the man's words back.
At her sincere apology, George furrowed his brows slightly.
He then scoffed, "Director White, you seem to be much better at seducing men than you are at your job."
Abigail blushed all over. Under some people's scornful gazes, she felt too ashamed to raise her head and replied to the man indignantly, "Even if I really wanted to seduce a man, I would never choose a devil like you."
At her words, those attendees of the meeting all gasped in surprise.
The look in George's eyes instantly became cold to the extreme. Abigail was originally a little scared of the man and thus immediately regretted having said what she had said. Under his gloomy gaze, she could not help but shiver and take two steps back.
The scenes of his trying to strangle her on that day were still fresh in her mind.
Just as she was trembling in fear and waiting to confront George's wrath head-on, the man suddenly withdrew his fury and said lightly after revealing a faint, cold smile, "Let's get the meeting continued."
The moody performance of the president startled everyone else, and Abigail hurried to get back to her seat with palpitations in her heart.
The meeting lasted for over two hours and ended at 5:30 p.m.
When George finally announced the closure, Abigail sprang to her feet and headed outwards with her stuff in hand.
