Chapter 2 The Rescue

Outside the operating room in the hospital...

"Leo, you're leaving for America tomorrow. Why don't you go home now? I'll stay here," Quentin said, looking at Leo, who was soaked to the skin.

Leo nodded at the light representing that the operation was going on, then left.

Four hours later, the door to the operating room opened, and a nurse stepped out.

"How is she?"

"She's been resurrected, but there's a bruise on her brain. We won't know the details until the patient gets awake. Are you her family? Let's get her hospitalized."

Quentin wanted to tell the nurse that he was not related to that woman. But before he could say anything, the nurse left in a hurry.

Quentin sighed and resigned himself to the fact that he had to go through the unknown woman's admission procedures.

The patient was taken to a sickroom, and nurses were dealing with the postoperative work.

"How could such a pretty girl be so badly hurt? If it weren't for Doctor Rivers's excellent skills, she'd have died."

"It must have been a car accident. She has several broken bones."

Joseph Rivers sat down to rest, feeling desperately tired. He was on night duty the day before and had undergone several surgeries this today. No matter how able-bodied his physique was, it was exhausting and overwhelming.

He ignored the nurses' discussion as he was used to seeing many patients every day.

After a short break, Joseph got up to leave. Just then, something dazzled his eyes.

Joseph paused his pace and noticed a delicate diamond ring on the floor.

It must belong to the woman.

Joseph walked over to pick the ring up.

"Doctor Rivers! Doctor Rivers! There's been a series of car accidents on the east side of town. We need you in the emergency room!" A nurse came in hastily.

"Let's go!"

...

Bertha Wells stood at the accident spot, her face pale. The long braking tracks on the ground and the twisted and broken guardrail made her distressed.

She desperately wanted to jump into the sea to look for Bree.

But she was aware that she should not increase the chaos.

Time was everything, and she could not let the searchers waste it on herself.

Countless people searched the sea, but they could not find Bree.

"We found something!"

Bertha cheered up for a second when she nervously and expectantly looked at Clive, who was walking over to her.

"How's Bree? How's she? How badly is she hurt?"

After the accident, Clive was the first to jump into the sea to look for Bree. Seven to eight hours of searching had left him exhausted.

"Bertha, calm down and listen to me." He struggled to speak, trying to say something, but nothing came out of his mouth when he looked into Bertha's hopeful eyes.

"What's wrong?" Bertha's expression changed. She tried to smile, but tears fell uncontrollably.

"She's hurt, isn't she? Is it bad? That's okay! That's okay! As long as she's alive, she will be healed! It's okay!"

She wiped her tears away hastily, and with slim hope, she stared at Clive, fearing to hear an answer she could not bear. "Say something! At least, say something!"

Clive wiped his face and said with bloodshot eyes, "Only the car was found. She was not inside."

Bertha staggered back as if she had been stricken by lightning, and her face was frighteningly pale.

Clive grabbed Bertha's wrist and kept comforting her, "Cheer up! We'll find Bree, and she will be fine. Don't worry too much."

Clive's reassuring words continued, but both of them were acutely aware that the hope was slim.

Even if they did find Bree in the end, it would be too long for Bree to stay alive.
