Chapter 11 Come Here, Sit Across from Me
Despite his sleepiness, his eyes still glittered overbearing and penetrating light. Who knew what he had been through to own such a pair of domineering eyes?
Nancy hurriedly looked away and tactfully followed Whitney to sit down.
Looked like Whitney was so afraid of Ned that she deliberately kept a distance from him across the large dining table while grabbing Nancy's hand.
When the two girls just sat down, Ned's stern voice came over, "Sitting so far away! What, any problem with the chairs over here?"
In the past, Whitney also sat like this, and Ned mentioned nothing about it. She believed he was sick of her and happy with it.
This time, however, he not only stayed for dinner but even fussed over such a trivial matter...
She didn't think much about it but believed her future life would be harder.
Whitney looked at Ned with a forced smile, "We're at the same table, so the seat is..."
"Come here, sit across from me."
Ned cut her short, his voice sending a shiver through her.
How would she dare to sit across from him? She was afraid of his abuse. Usually, when her little uncle was in the office, his straight face looked terrifying.
As Nancy was about to sit down, Whitney hurriedly corrected herself, "Nancy, sit here, my eyes have been in poor condition recently. The light here is so dazzling and hurting my eyes..."
Regardless of everything, Whitney pressed Nancy down in the chair across from Ned and took the adjacent chair that faced him diagonally.
Whitney felt relieved inwardly.
But Nancy was embarrassed. Whitney, worst bestie ever. Ned was her little uncle and a true relative. What was she afraid of?
Nancy should be the scared one.
She glared at Whitney who returned a guilty smile.
After the dishes were served, the housekeeper got her portion and went to clean the kitchen. Nancy didn't touch the chopsticks but waited for Ned to start the meal.
Instead of picking up the chopsticks, he looked at Whitney and suddenly spoke, "I've discussed it with your classmate. She will be responsible for your tutoring and earn 100 yuan each day. The requirement is that you should enter the top ten in the upcoming exam. If you fail, I'll have her transferred to another school."
Whitney was surprised, "Why? Ned, you can have my undisciplined friends transferred, but Nancy is different. She is excellent in study and different from my other friends. Besides, her family is not well off, and she relies on free tuition to ease her burden. You'll make her life worse! My bad grades are my business and have nothing to do with her."
Ned raised his eyes and stared at Whitney. Though wimpy, she straightened her back and faced his gaze head-on.
"No why, but your classmate agreed."
"Huh?"
She looked at Nancy.
Nancy felt that he made such a remark to make her the bad cop.
She didn't have a choice since she owed him a debt of gratitude.
Nancy nodded her head, "Whitney, have faith in yourself. It's not hard to enter the top ten. You're smart and able to do it."
Ned took a glance at her.
Whitney grabbed her hand, "Did Ned make it hard for you? He threatened you, didn't he? I knew he called you out up to no good!"
