Chapter 15 The Man Is Married
Amor cleared his throat, then explained, "He had a stroke yesterday afternoon and has been hospitalized."
Greg did not ask further.
Amor mourned for that poor thing in his heart for two seconds. If the Marketing Manager woke up to learn that Greg frowned at his sick leave, he would probably suffer another stroke.
"My incredibly handsome, shockingly rich, amazingly gentle good husband, come on, pick up the phone."
Upon hearing the ringtone, all the people on the spot, including Amor, were petrified.
Who did not mute his cell phone and let such a weird ringtone be played on a meeting with Greg's presence?
The ringtone then sounded again.
And again.
Amor nervously broke into a cold sweat.
Who was the bold bastard?
He turned to look at Greg.
Surprisingly, Greg did not seem to be mad at all.
Instead, he looked like he was enjoying it.
A horrifying thought rose in Amor's mind.
Then, he swept over the rest of the attendees with his eyes.
People were exchanging eye signals with each other in great trepidation.
"Is the ringtone yours?"
"No, it's not."
"It isn't mine either!"
Amor once again tilted his head to look at Greg.
With his lips curled up, Greg took out his cell phone with a calm expression on his face.
The ringtone sounded louder.
What the hell!
All the meeting attendees were transfixed.
It turned out that the funny ringtone belonged to Greg himself.
"What's up?"
Greg's voice was extremely gentle, and a warm smile was hanging upon his lips.
He then realized what Liz had done to his cell phone earlier this morning.
How naughty she was.
But cute as hell.
The last portion of gloom in Greg's heart dissipated utterly.
"Does the ringtone sound good?" Liz asked from the other end of the line.
"It sounds good, indeed," Greg answered, somewhat helplessly.
Liz deliberately said in a fierce tone of voice, "You can't change it!"
She wanted the entire world to know that Greg was married.
After exchanging several words, the call ended.
The conference room was in dead silence.
Greg glanced at everyone calmly.
Amor was petrified.
"Meeting adjourned."
Greg got up and left.
The others were left looking at each other in consternation.
Amor hurriedly followed Greg into his office.
"Mr. Behrendt, shall we invite Miss Cotton to sing at the opening ceremony of the World Medical Communication Congress?"
"Whatever."
Amor lifted his head to see Greg staring at his cell phone with a vague smile on his mouth.
What happened to Mr. Behrendt?
Liz must have bewitched Mr. Behrendt!
After watching his phone for a good while, Greg put it away, then looked up at Amor's frequently changing expression, and narrowed his eyes.
"Which part of the ringtone are you questioning?"
"Huh?" Amor was stunned.
Greg cast an icy glance at Amor.
"Incredibly handsome?"
"Shockingly rich?"
"Amazingly gentle?"
"Or, good husband?"
The question was killing Amor.
Amor dropped his head like a flower in the rain.
"So, you think I'm not handsome? Not rich? Not gentle? Or, not a good..."
Amor waved his hands vigorously. "No, no. Mr. Behrendt, please give me a break."
How dared Amor to question those adjectives?
No one was qualified to say that Greg was not rich or handsome in C City, let alone Amor, a negligible assistant.
As for whether Greg was gentle and a good husband, well...
After giving Amor a cold glance, Greg fixed his eyes on the document before him. A while later, he asked abruptly, "Will a woman fall in love with a man all of a sudden?"
Amor was stunned and lifted his head in shock.
Greg did not raise his eyes, and it was hard to detect any change in his face.
Amor hesitated.
Greg spent most of the time when he was a college student out of campus and started to participate in his family group's decision-making process from an early age. By the time he graduated, he was in complete control of the company.
Back then, Amor was also a student at A University. He was spotted by Greg for his business excellence and began to work for the latter since his freshman year.
For five years, Amor witnessed Greg, who could always deal with various kinds of challenges composedly, breaking his principles and boundaries for Liz's good.
He also witnessed how Liz hurt Greg and turned her back on him.
Anyone who knew the inside story was clear that Liz was in love with Chris.
"Mr. Behrendt, I think..."
"Forget it."
Greg cut him off.
"Did you get the inside scoop on the Hubert case?"
Amor paused for a second.
"Almost done. Hubert is a discreet man. I've gone through all his bank accounts, and there's no evidence of the so-called bribery. He should be released soon. However..."
Greg lifted his head with coldness gathered in his narrowed eyes.
"Someone behind the scenes is trying to hold him back and prevent him from getting out of prison."
Amor nodded.
"Find out who that person is."
Greg's voice was icy cold.
In fact, he already knew what was going on.
That man...
Liz was sitting on the couch, smiling from ear to ear.
When she checked Greg's cell phone in the morning, she noticed his schedule and was sure that he was in the conference room at this moment.
Presumably, the Behrendt Group executives all heard the call she just made.
She wondered what kind of expression was on Greg's or Amor's face.
But Greg's tone was gentle. So, he was not mad at her.
Liz let out a soft snort.
She did not think she was doing anything wrong. It was a matter of course that she shall inform the outside world that Greg was her man.
With her cell phone in hand, Liz browsed news casually.
All the headlines of different media mentioned that the World Medical Communication Congress would be held in C Country.
Kylie, the currently popular diva, intentionally or unintentionally revealed in an interview that she might sing at the World Medical Communication Congress's opening ceremony.
Once again, gossip news about Kylie and Greg were spreading online.
Liz's expression became gloomy.
In Liz's previous life, Kylie persuaded her into participating in the World Medical Communication Congress's opening ceremony and promised that the two of them would sing together.
Kylie sweetly complimented Liz on how gorgeous she looked and how well she could sing, and that Liz should enter the showbiz.
Liz bought Kylie's words like a fool.
She begged Greg to let her join Kylie.
Before the performance, Chris suddenly called Liz to say that he was in a terrible mood. Liz, like an idiot, hurriedly went to keep the man company after hanging up.
In this way, Kylie took the limelight of the World Medical Communication Congress's opening ceremony, and she was acclaimed as the No.1 beauty and diva in C Country.
Kylie and Greg's gossip then became viral in town.
Thinking of the past, Liz slammed her cell phone on the table in exasperation.
Kylie and Chris tricked Liz like she were a monkey. And Liz could not see it through in her previous life.
As Liz was in a rage, her phone rang.
It was a call from Chris.
And the name had just occurred to Liz's mind.
The woman stared at the screen with mixed emotions rolling in her heart.
In Liz's previous life, this call happened as well.
At that time, she had stabbed Greg and got kicked out of the Behrendt Family's house.
Chris called and then came to pick her up.
While thinking, Liz pressed the answer button.
"Liz."
Chris's voice was full of tenderness.
With all the psychological construction, Liz still could not help but feel a sharp soreness in her heart upon hearing Chris's voice again.
After all, Chris used to be unique and mean everything in her life.
