Chapter 17 Put All the Blame on Greg
Liz took one step upward.
Then, the second step.
Suddenly, she chuckled and said in a loud voice, "Chris, I actually feel Greg's been quite nice to me."
"What?"
Chris frowned at once, fixing all his attention on the woman.
Thinking of what the men in black told him about, Chirs felt slightly uneasy.
"Liz, are you..."
Staring at Liz's back, Chris revealed an icy, fierce look in his eyes.
At this moment, Liz skipped a stair and stepped directly onto the fourth one.
Greg did not notice the woman's sudden acceleration and missed his step due to her tug.
"Ah!"
Liz turned back and put on a shocked expression after two seconds.
"Chris, are you okay?"
Chris was on his knees on the stair with one foot inserted in the gap, his face pale.
Liz covered her mouth and exclaimed, "Gee! Why is this stair broken?"
A foxy smile crossed the woman's eyes secretly.
She recalled that it was she who missed the step in her previous life. If Chris did not help her up in time, she would have got injured.
Later on, they found out that bugs damaged the third stair, and Chris hired a worker to fix it.
"Does it hurt? Is that your injured leg? Thank goodness that you have a crutch."
With that, Liz helped Chris to put the crutch in place.
Chris was in so much pain that he could not speak and entered the cabin with the woman's assistance.
After getting seated in the cabin, Liz pulled Chris's pant leg up.
There was no bleeding, but the leg was completely bruised.
Liz tilted her head, asking, "This should be the injury you got earlier, right?"
Chris took a deep breath and nodded bitterly.
Liz patted her chest, saying, "That's a relief. If my fault had caused it, I'd feel guilty as hell."
Chris's brows trembled, and he could do nothing but let out a wry smile.
"It has nothing to do with you. Greg brought it to me."
Chris clenched his teeth at the name of Greg.
Liz took a deep breath, trying her best not to laugh out loud.
As Chirs framed Greg for hurting his leg, Liz deliberately made Chris's lie a reality. Thus, Greg's taking the blame would not be meaningless.
Chris stared at Liz with a frown on his face while enduring the pain, asking, "Liz, did you just say that Greg has been nice to you?"
Liz shrugged, replying in an innocent tone of voice, "Yes, I did. As you know, I ran out of the wedding and disgraced Greg badly. Still, he didn't make things difficult for me after that."
"But he initially wanted to kill you."
Chris blurted out with excitement.
"What?" Liz was shocked.
In her previous life, Chris had only accused Greg of hitting him but never mentioned this.
Liz wondered what kind of dirt was Chris going to throw upon Greg.
Chris's tone of voice was profoundly painful.
"That day, I fell into the river with you in my arms to get away from the car. I can swim so I tried to get you to shore after you passed out.
But Greg actually..."
Chris's eyes were filled with fear and disbelief.
Liz waited patiently for Chris's show.
What an actor he was!
His acting was even better than Kylie's.
No wonder Liz was entrapped by him in her previous life.
"What did Greg do?" Liz asked, trying hard to tamp down the urge to throw up.
Chris was so disgusting.
He pretended to be a gentleman on the outside, but deep inside, he was a bastard.
Underneath his innocent appearance, there was a vicious soul.
Bearing all the truth in her heart, Liz looked at Chris, who was performing, with a weak, horrified, and innocent expression on her face.
Chris was very pleased with her reaction, and with a hint of smugness on his lips, he continued, "He had people pressing us down, not letting us get out of the river.
I fought with his subordinates, trying my best to protect you. That's why..."
He deliberately glanced at his leg.
Meanwhile, he thought to himself, "Damn it. It was supposed to be a show. I didn't expect to suffer an injury for real."
Then, he cursed Liz's stupidity for believing the ridiculous tale about the red ribbon.
Liz's face was full of fear, shock, disbelief, and anger.
What Chris told Liz was different from that in her previous life. What an adaptable liar he was to change the script without rehearsing.
Thinking so, however, Liz actually growled, "What? Greg is so detestable."
Chris heaved a sigh of relief as the stupid woman believed in the story he had just made up. Otherwise, his injury would be pointless.
Then, he continued lying.
"I've asked Kylie to look into the accident, and it turns out the car that almost hit us the other day was under Greg's name. Liz, it's too dangerous for you to stay by his side. I'm deeply concerned about you."
Sure enough, Chris mentioned this.
But Liz was not muddleheaded at all.
Just like he did in Liz's previous life, Chris put all the blame on Greg.
The car accident was Chris Kylie's ruse, and if Greg had not saved Liz, Liz would have died five years ago.
However, Liz used to be too stupid. Greg could save her once but could not protect her all her life.
Liz stood up and walked over to the wall of the cabin.
The look in her eyes was chilly.
Later in her previous life, Liz learned that the wall actually a single-sided surveillance glass. Kylie filmed it when Chris purposely making out with Liz and sent the video to Greg by accident.
That was why Greg knew every time she came over to this place.
At this moment, Kylie should be in the cubicle across the wall, probably with her cell phone in her hand, waiting to record what would happen between Liz and Chris.
Liz intentionally lifted her hand to slap the wall hard.
"Ah?"
A faint female voice sounded.
Though the voice was low, Liz could tell that it must be Kylie's.
She turned to look at Chris, asking, "What was that noise?"
A trace of panic crossed Chris's eyes, and he hurried to draw Liz's attention to himself.
"I didn't hear anything. Liz, come over. I can't stand up, and it's hard for me to hear your voice with you standing so far away."
Liz walked over to the man.
She was in no hurry to lay them bare and would avenge herself bit by bit.
"Did you say that it was Kylie who found it out?" Liz asked in a soft voice.
"Yeah."
Chris answered.
From Chris's point of view, Liz trusted Kylie and would not question the result in the least.
"What else did Kylie say?"
"Huh?" Chris was surprised.
Liz snorted inwardly, losing her interest in watching Chris's performance.
"I asked her to look into my father's bribery case earlier. Dad told me he was innocent when I visited him. With Kylie's extensive connections, she must have found something out."
Hearing Liz's words, Chris relaxed slightly.
"Oh right, Kylie did mention that the so-called bribery was probably also Greg's trick to force you to marry him."
Liz curled up her lips, saying, "Really? Seems that Greg is indeed into me."
"Liz!"
The woman's reaction made Chris somewhat panicked.
"You can't be fooled by Greg. He has been framing your father. You should see how malicious he actually is."
