Chapter 16 Lodge's Girlfriend
Dejected, Summer went back to the door of the ICU, sat down, and habitually dialed a number that had been engraved on her memory.
In the past few days, Lodge hadn't answered any of her calls nor returned any text messages.
"What's up?"
"Lodge! I… my mother is hospitalized and unconscious."
As Lodge finally answered the call, Summer was excited but soon at a loss with his unusual indifference.
"You should turn to the doctor, why calling me?"
"Lodge…"
What happened exactly? Why did Lodge suddenly act like a different person?
"I want to see you."
Summer slightly cooled down and said blandly.
"I'll see you at school this afternoon, gotta go."
"Lodge… Lodge…"
Beep…
Before she could finish her speech, the sound of a busy line broke in.
Dazed for a few seconds, she rushed straight to school.
When she stood in front of the man of her dream, she called out his name gently before her tears fell uncontrollably.
"You're here." Lodge responded politely and distantly.
Was that all?
In the past few days, every second was difficult for her. Desperately she called him again and again but got no response. In the end, he greeted her so blandly.
She could no longer restrain herself.
She rushed up, grabbed Lodge's hand, tried to say something, but gently drew back her hand.
"Lodge…"
Summer looked more shocked.
A tall beauty with delicate makeup came over and naturally took Lodge's arm.
Despite her polite smile, she couldn't hide the pride in her tone, "Summer, right? Nice to meet you, I'm Daisy Vega, Lodge's girlfriend."
The two before her eyes looked like a perfect couple.
Daisy was tall, had a curvy figure, and looked pretty. What was more, she was the only daughter of the head of the law department at Middlebury College.
The minor actress was often acting in films in other cities and frequently reported by tabloids. Somehow, she became Lodge's girlfriend overnight.
Summer laughed drily with a broken heart.
She had many doubts in her mind and wanted to ask Lodge.
After a stand-still, Lodge spoke tenderly, "I have a word with Summer. Go wait for me there."
"Why?"
Summer bit her lip tightly and shed silent tears.
This man promised to be with her upon graduation. He drew her a blueprint but stabbed her in the back when she needed him the most.
"I was too busy to reply to you in time."
As Lodge avoided the important matter, Summer sneered, "Why do you become Daisy's boyfriend?"
In hesitation, Lodge turned his head for a glance at Daisy who was watching them in the near distance with a smile.
"Tell me, why?" She forced the words out of her gnashed teeth.
"I love her."
Lodge replied simply without the slightest hesitation, and the various excuses she thought for him shattered.
"I don't believe it! Lodge, I don't believe it!"
A bit impatient and angry, Lodge lowered his voice, "Summer, you… you're always a sister I want to protect."
"Sister?" Summer laughed dramatically, shook her head, looked into Lodge's eyes, and asked slowly, "You mean it's all my own wishful thinking in the past six years?"
Lodge replied blandly, "I still have unfinished business." Following his words, he grabbed Daisy's hand and walked away.
Summer wanted to question him closely but was not in the right position.
From the very beginning, she was just like a sister to him.
