A pair of burning eyes were fixed upon Nora and Mrs. Davies from the second floor.

With his hands put into his pants pockets, Alex was wearing a standoffish expression and giving off a detached yet oppressive vibe.

The coolness and pressure emitted from him made it impossible for the women to ignore his presence.

Mrs. Davies noticed Alex before Nora and said to the young woman with a smile, "Miss Nora, I'll go back to prepare dinner, and you and Mr. Hoffman, take your time to chat."

Nora turned around to see Alex walking over to her.

"When did you come back?"

That was not all she wanted to ask.

Staring at the woman's face, Alex found that she looked even more tired than she did in the morning as if she had experienced something annoying.

He curled up his lips into a mocking smile, saying, "I thought your first question would be about Mrs. Davies's return."

Nora widened her eyes slightly open as she did not expect the man to see through what was on her mind at first glance.

Her heart skipped two beats.

As the man had laid her mind bare, Nora had to admit it.

Thus, the woman replied to Alex with a faint smile, "Yes, but I didn't want to annoy you with too many questions."

Alex's figure was only a step away from Nora's, and his hard, clear-cut features seemed to be covered by a layer of gloom. Perhaps what the woman said somehow made him feel uncomfortable inside.

The man's tone of voice did not sound friendly at all. "What do you think? Make a guess. Do you think I'm doing so for you?"

Alex was right. Nora indeed secretly thought that the man invited Mrs. Davies back for the sake of her. Just then, what Alex added threw a wet blanket on her thought. "Look at your slim figure. How many times do you think you can suffer my torture?"

At the man's taunting and sarcasm, Nora tried hard to tamp down her fury but still failed to prevent herself from glaring at him.

She should have expected that everything Alex did was for his own sake.

As Alex was in a hurry to impregnate Nora, he needed her to get a healthier physique.

Still, learning the cruel truth from the man's mouth stung Nora's heart.

Without sparing another glance at Alex, Nora turned to enter the kitchen to assist Mrs. Davies.

During dinner, Nora and Mrs. Davies chatted warmly, and Alex only joined them when Mrs. Davies cued him from time to time.

When Nora put down her tableware, the man sitting across from her said, "Come with me."

Nora was not worried about what Alex would do to her. As she was on her period, she was safe from his harassment for the following several days.

With his icy eyes fixed upon the woman's angry face, Alex furrowed his brows slightly, then said in a somewhat impatient tone, "You failed to understand what I told you this morning, didn't you?"

Faced with the man's arrogance and dominance, Nora nerved herself to retort, "I agreed to make a baby with you. It doesn't mean that I'm your plaything at your beck and call. Mr. Hoffman, I think you're wanting too much!"
