Chapter 10 Do You Really Buy Those Rumors?
Effie could not help laughing. Although she and Katie had only met a few times, she admired Katie's personality, capability, and decisiveness.
"Stop making fun of me. Right, have you guys read the script? How do you like it? Is there anything that needs modifications?"
"Yes, we have. And it's perfect!" Katie replied with a smile, "Isabella's works are all of high-quality indeed! This statement does have a point to be widely accepted."
"Do you really buy those rumors?" Effie smiled, and they entered the elevator together.
While Katie pushed through the door of the conference room with Effie, several people in charge of the project were discussing the preparations before shooting.
"Please allow me to introduce Isabella to you guys. She is the author and screenwriter of Girl in the Dark."
Upon seeing Effie, those people all exclaimed, "Gee, what a beauty!"
"I thought Isabella was some middle-aged woman and didn't expect you to be such a stunner at all!"
"Your appearance is no worse than those actresses indeed!"
"And most of all, the script you wrote is simply amazing!"
"..."
At people's compliments, Effie flashed a polite smile, saying, "Thank you!"
"It's almost time. Shall we get the meeting started?" Katie knew that Effie was no fan of pleasantries and turned to the primary seat, asking slightly surprisedly, "President Cliff is not here yet. Where is he?"
Just then, the door was pushed open again, and a man in a sky-blue coat and white trousers walked in.
"Hi, President Cliff." People greeted him in unison.
"Hi everybody!" The man took off his sunglasses, sat in the chair lazily, and lifted his head to look at the others. "Let's begin!"
As his gaze sweeping over the participants of the meeting, the man became lightly shocked when he saw Effie. "You..."
"President Cliff, this is Isabella, the author of Girl in the Dark and the writer of the entire show." Katie volunteered to introduce Effie to the man.
"Isabella?" With his eyes slightly squinted, the man stared at Effie with an even more puzzled expression. "Is that your real name?"
"No, Isabella is a pseudonym. Actually, my surname is Fletcher." Effie kept her personal data no secret as it was not difficult to find it out if one looked it up.
The look in the man's eyes became more shocked. The next second, however, he flashed a smile as nothing had happened, saying, "Good! Very good!"
Noticing the somewhat strange expression on the man's face, Katie could not help but ask, "President Cliff, is everything alright?"
"What? Yeah, everything is alright." The man replied with his lips slightly curled up. "I'll make a phone call out there." With that, he turned to get out of the conference room.
The moment he stepped out of the room, he jumped up with excitement.
"God help me!" While speaking, he took out his cell phone and immediately dialed a number. "Edwin, guess who I've just met?"
A frosty voice came from the other end of the line. "I'm busy!" Apparently, it meant he had no interest in any gossip at this moment.
"It's sister-in-law!" Cliff Bennett neglected the other man's indifference and went on excitedly, "I saw my sister-in-law!"
Edwin paused for a second, then replied coldly, "That's all? I'm hanging up!"
"It is really her!" Cliff continued with emotion. "She is now at the Dragon Lake Conference Room of Star Entertainment! What's even more shocking is that she turned out to be the screenwriter of Girl in the Dark, the newly contracted program of Star Entertainment!"
As no one was responding to him, Cliff asked with puzzlement, "Hello? Edwin, are you listening? Would you like to come and have a look? You haven't seen each other for so long. In case..."
Before Cliff could finish his words, Edwin hung up.
Upon hearing the busy tone, Cliff looked at his phone with his brows narrowed, saying, "What a dull man. No wonder your woman has left you!"
Then, he turned around and headed back to the conference room.
On the other hand, at the conference room of the Bennett Group...
After ending the call, Edwin stared at the screen of his phone with a complicated expression for a full minute. When everyone else thought that something huge must have happened, his cold voice sounded abruptly.
"Break it up!"
