Chapter 12 She Cares About You
People in the conference room looked at each other in speechless despair.
On the other hand, Edwin stared at the screen monitoring the situation, and his frosty expression gradually gave off some warmth. Even he did not notice that his usually icy lips were slightly curled up.
Back in the conference room, with Cliff's insistence, the candidate for the leading female role was changed from Celia to Tracy Jones, who had both excellent appearance and acting skills.
It was getting late when Effie stepped out of Star Entertainment, and she bought a bunch of things at a supermarket before going home. When she got downstairs, she heard someone calling her name.
"Effie."
"Nolan?" Effie turned to see a tall, handsome man walking over to her. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to see Grandma." Nolan Palmer smiled while approaching the woman, then volunteered to take the bags from her hands. "Let's go upstairs."
"Didn't you say you wouldn't come over earlier?" Effie and Nolan exchanged words harmoniously while walking. The woman had no idea that there was a man in the black Bentley not far away and that his expression was becoming gloomy little by little.
Witnessing what was going on, Gale hurried to say something to calm the man down, "That guy, he may be Miss Fletcher's relative, friend, colleague, or whatever."
Just as Gale finished his words, a young boy ran out of the corridor and jumped into Effie's arms, calling, "Mom."
"Dylan!" Effie picked her boy up and pecked him on the cheek. Meanwhile, Nolan pinched Dylan's face dotingly. Then, the three of them entered the building, talking and laughing.
In an instant, the temperature in the vehicle dropped to the freezing point.
With cold sweat dripping from his forehead, Gale still nerved himself to say, "That kid could be Miss Fletcher's relative as well. Maybe his brother's child."
With that, Gale sighed feebly. Even he could not believe his own words, let alone Edwin, a smart business elite.
"Would you like me to go upstairs for a check?" Gale cast a cautious glance at Edwin for fear that his boss would take the fury out on him.
Edwin looked at the building with his brows slightly furrowed, and his expression was unprecedentedly dismal.
Getting no response from his boss, Gale felt that he was sitting upon pins and needles and was not sure whether he should open the car door or not. Did Edwin want him to go to find out or pretend that nothing was going on?
While Gale was struggling inwardly, Edwin's cell phone rang.
Edwin glanced at the caller ID with an expression devoid of any warmth and answered it, "Say it!"
"Edwin, you know what? Sister-in-law straightforwardly forced Celia out of our program in front of everyone today!"
Cliff's voice was loud enough to be clearly heard by Gale, who was driving. At this very moment, he became worried about the speaker on the other end of the line.
How could Cliff mention that woman to Edwin and refer to her as his sister-in-law at this point? It seemed that Edwin was about to yell at him.
Cliff had no idea what was going on with Edwin and kept recounting what happened in the conference room earlier. Finally, he concluded by saying, "Isn't my sister-in-law awesome. I mean, both the director and producer are big shots in the industry, and she actually threatened to withdraw her copyright if they insisted on using Celia. What does that mean?"
"That means she cares about you! Otherwise, she wouldn't hate Celia so much. Clearly, she is jealous of Celia because of you. Though it has been five years, she still could not get over it. If she isn't in deep love with you, where does that hatred come from? What do you say, brother?"
