Chapter 19 Spill out What's On Your Mind or Shut Up
At Katie's question, Cliff immediately denied it with a somewhat frightened look in his eyes. "Don't talk nonsense! It'll get you into trouble!"
"Huh?"
"Don't you have any work to do? Go and see if those guests need anything!"
"Oh, yes, sir." Feeling disappointed, Katie reluctantly turned to walk away.
However, the seed of gossip in her heart was swelling up.
On the other hand, Effie called Herman as soon as she stepped out of the party venue.
The nurse just called her, saying that Grandma was missing. Effie felt flustered for fear that something bad had happened.
But for some reason, no matter how she tried, she could not reach Herman through the phone.
While Effie kept walking and dialing the number, a figure passed by her, then exclaimed.
"Effie Fletcher?"
Effie turned around and was stunned upon seeing the other woman. "Celia Harris?"
"It's really you." After confirmation, Celia was even more surprised, asking, "What are you doing here?"
"Obviously, for the party!" Effie cast an indifferent glance at Celia, then walked towards the elevator.
"Stop right there!" Celia blocked her way. She was in a red evening gown and ten-centimeter heels, her long wavy hair was up high, and her makeup was thick, giving off a much more powerful vibe than Effie's.
However, Effie was not afraid in the least and replied to her scornfully. "Speak briefly, then shut up. I don't have time to waste on you."
Effie had never forgotten what had happened five years ago though she was unwilling to call it to mind.
The woman in front of Effie ruined her life. She wanted to avenge herself but did not bother to dirty her hands. What mattered to her was that Dylan was clever and sensible and that both Herman and Grandma were safe and sound.
"Who has allowed you to come back to Beacon City? Without my permission, you..."
"I have the freedom to be wherever I want!" Effie glanced at Celia contemptuously. "It's none of your business!"
"None of my business?" Celia sneered, saying, "Effie, don't forget what you promised me, let alone what I got on you." With hands crossed before her chest, Celia looked at Effie with a threatening expression. "If you make me unhappy one day, I will make it public and let everyone see what kind of person you are!"
"Feel free!"
"What did you say?" Celia looked surprised. She thought Effie would get scared and hurry to run away with her tail between her legs as she did five years ago. Unexpectedly, Effie's attitude was quite tough.
"I said..." Effie took a step forward and looked at Celia calmly. "You can do whatever you want, as long as you don't pester me! Because you make me sick."
"How dare you!" Celia's face turned red with anger, and she reached out her hand, intending to hit Effie. Just then, the door to the banquet hall behind them was pushed open. Along with the party music, Cliff walked out.
Celia immediately took back her hand, quickly resumed her tender, flattering smile, and walked over to the man, greeting, "Hi, Cliff."
However, Cliff walked straight over to Effie as if he had not seen Celia.
"This is my business card, take it. If you need any help, don't hesitate to call me."
"Thank you!" Effie took the business card, curled up her lips slightly, and then turned to leave.
After Effie's figure disappeared into the elevator, Celia suddenly came to her senses and looked at the man in disbelief. "Cliff, you know her?"
Cliff was studying abroad when Edwin and Effie got married. Therefore, he never met Effie.
Judging from their interaction, however, it seemed that they knew each other.
"Shouldn't I know her?" Cliff looked at Celia as if what she put forward was such an idiotic question.
"Well, I mean, why is she here?" Celia smiled awkwardly and looked at Cliff with another irrelevant question.
"Of course she is here. She is the author and screenwriter of Girl in the Dark." Cliff glanced at Celia with a look of disgust in his eyes as if asking, "What are you doing here?"
Celia was instantly shocked at the news. "Screenwriter? Is she actually... Isabella?"
Cliff nodded with a hint of pride upon his brows. "Yes, she is Isabella!"
"How is that possible?"
After glancing at Celia's stunned, shocked expression, Cliff left with a satisfied smile.
"Effie is Isabella!" Celia glared resentfully in the direction where Effie disappeared, and there were flames of fury rolling deep in her eyes. "Effie, I'll kill you for cramping my acting career!"
