Chapter 5 Rescued
The Third People's Hospital in Imperial City...
In a well-ironed business suit, the dashing yet cold-blooded Lukas stood in front of the sickbed, watched the girl lying there with a pale face and purple lips, and reprimanded, "You think you could change anything by jumping into the river? No way!"
His dark pupils full of disgust, Lukas lowered his voice, "Joanna, if you want to die, then die directly. Is it fun to play the old trick of weep, bleat, and parasuicide?"
Originally anxious to explain, Joanna swallowed back the words at the tip of her tongue.
She dropped her eyes and looked at the white bed sheet.
"Lukas, let's break off our engagement!"
While she was speaking, Kane happened to come in and slapped Lukas on the back of his head.
"Lukas, what is wrong with you? Jo is in such a condition, and you want to break off your engagement?"
"Grandpa, not me. She brought it up." The corner of Lukas's mouth twitched and his eyes turned cold.
"You must have forced her!" Kane slapped him again, "Lukas, get the hell out!"
Kane was heartbroken and ashamed to see a thin and haggard Joanna.
"Jo, I know about your sufferings in the past year. It's all my fault, but don't worry. As long as I'm still alive, you'll be Lukas's wife and the young mistress of the Jensen family!"
Joanna raised her head and looked at the old man. They were not related by blood, but he was the first one here to comfort her. All of a sudden, she burst into tears.
"Grandpa, I was shoved by someone and accidentally fell. I didn't intend to commit suicide. I'm telling the truth."
Kane's heart throbbed, and he lovingly stroked her head.
"Good girl, I know. I know that you are not a foolish kid. I believe you. Take a rest, I'll see you tomorrow."
"You, come out with me!" He then turned to Lukas.
...
In a private hospital in Imperial City...
"Chris, how are you feeling? Are you alright?"
An old lady with grey hair sat at the sickbed and looked at the man lying there with concern.
Chris Jensen didn't speak, and his secretary, Harvey Jefferson helped him sit up.
The old lady watched and glared at Harvey.
"Harvey, this is how you take care of Chris?"
Chris ignored his grandmother and looked at his grandfather with a poker face.
"So, what brought you here this time?"
Conor Stone was a little afraid of his young yet stern grandson, "C... Chris, Swan Group of the Jensen family is thriving, and our Stone family..."
Chris raised his hand to interrupt his speech and signaled to Harvey who immediately handed him a blank cheque.
"100 million yuan, enough?"
The two elders of the Stone family got mad, "Chris, what do you mean? We're not here to ask for your money but hope that you can take back your mother's shares in Swan Group! Although you're capable enough to found the Flourish Group, we can always pursue more money. To say the least, you're also Kane Jensen's son. Why couldn't you have any of the shares in Swan Group that your mother owned?"
The shares belonged to the Stone family. How could they let Kane seize them?
Chris filled in a string of numbers on the cheque and handed it to Conor.
"I'll provide for you, but it doesn't mean that I will tolerate that giant baby Finley Stone and his children."
Ruby Stone, the old lady, claimed that she didn't want the money but immediately took the cheque and complained.
"But you won't have any children, and Finley is your mother's only brother. If you don't give your money to him, would you give it to the ungrateful Jensen family?"
Conor changed his countenance, rolled his eyes at his wife, and pulled her away.
Chris Jensen, the top dog in the business world of Imperial City and chairman of the largest business empire in Asia, was impotent.
The ward finally quieted down, and Chris couldn't help recalling the two crazy nights.
He spread his palm and looked at a glittering diamond ring when the struggling face in the Golden River crossed his mind.
"Harvey, investigate that woman, keep an eye on the Brown and Stone families, and find out the person who drugged me."
"Yes, sir!"
