Contemporary Romance>Honey, Where Are You Going?>Chapter 6 Malicious
Chapter 6 Malicious
In the evening, Saya Graham visited Joanna in the hospital and went out to buy dinner. Then Mila arrived.
Joanna was staying in the ward alone. Without saying a word, Mila slapped her in the face.
Slap!
Soon there were three bruises on Joanna's face still purple from the cold river.
"Bitch! Why didn't you die?"
"You want me dead so badly?" Joanna was heartbroken.
All righteous, Mila snapped, "I didn't force you to die. You did it on your own and deserved it. The Bennett family raised you after all, and you are Lukas's fiancée. Given his attitude to you, people would believe that he causes your death. If you died, the Jensen family would be held accountable!"
How cruel was her mother that she made such a remark?
Joanna's heart was bleeding. She closed her eyes and didn't bother to clarify the misunderstanding of her plunging into the river.
"I will break off the engagement with him."
"Breaking off the engagement?"
Mila was stimulated.
Howard was about to graduate from junior high school, and they needed money badly.
Mila's brother owed a lot of debts while Sam Bennett was an indecisive loser. Without Kane's help, he wouldn't have a chance to work in Flourish Group.
Breaking off the engagement!
"Joanna, why are you still alive! You should die, go to hell!" Mila shoved Joanna like a shrew.
"Mila, are you really Jo's mother?" Saya came back from buying dinner and heard Mila's malicious curse. She was both anxious and angry.
"Jo fell into the river and barely escaped death thanks to someone's rescue. You didn't comfort her but made such a malicious remark! What kind of mother will be like this!"
Mila glared at Saya, "I'm disciplining my daughter. What has it got to do with you? Saya, if you are so capable, leave with Joanna and never show up before my eyes again. I don't have such a shameless daughter!"
Saya couldn't understand her harsh abuse and tried to retort, but Joanna tugged at her sleeve.
She raised her head. The rims of her eyes were red but the expressions in them were cold. She spoke in a trembling voice.
"Mom, I was assaulted and a victim. How am I shameless?"
"Jo, what did you say?" Saya was struck dumb.
"You are the future young mistress of the Jensen family. Who dares to get his hands on you? You couldn't stand loneliness and fool around. Now you talk about chastity and forbid me to talk about it!" Mila sneered disdainfully.
She knew that the incident with Joanna would be known sooner or later. Before Kane learned about it, Mila needed to warn her so that the Bennett family would not be implicated.
As for the engagement, she wouldn't let the Jensen family break it.
"Joanna, I don't have such a daughter as you!" Tired of wrestling with them, Mila walked away without looking back.
Saya trembled with anger, and Joanna grabbed her hand.
"It's okay. I've never been better. If I can disassociate myself from them, I think... it will be my greatest luck!"
Saya was speechless.
She knew what Joanna said was true. In Mila's mind, her daughter was just a tool to benefit the Bennett family.
"Jo, how could such parents even exist in this world?"
"It's okay. I'll just regard myself as an orphan. Then... it won't make me sad." Joanna wiped the tears off Saya's face and comforted her with a smile.
Despite the dull pain in her heart, Joanna gave a brilliant smile.
She looked voluptuous and delicate, but her big pretty eyes looked so pure. The contrast set off her charm even more.
Outside the ward, Chris looked at the two girls holding each other. When his eyes landed on the gentle, brilliant smile on that pale, sickly face, his dashing brows furrowed.
Before this, he didn't take notice. When he looked at her closely now, her face looked familiar.
"Stop!"
Harvey drew back his hand that was going to knock on the door, bowed his head respectfully, and waited for instructions.
"Where are the files about her?" Chris asked in a hoarse voice.
"In another hour, they'll be ready."
Chris turned around. His pretty face looked expressionless yet appalling.
"Five minutes."
"Yes, sir!"
