Chapter 7 Beast

Five minutes later, in the ward adjacent to Joanna's...

Chris took the files from Harvey's hand and remained composed when he saw Joanna's name.

A photo was attached to the top right corner.

Marriage status: engaged.

Aware of Mr. Jensen's intention, Harvey deliberately added a note behind the 'engaged' item. The bold red characters were quite eye-catching.

Note: her fiancé is Lukas, the young master of the Jensen family in Imperial City.

Harvey stood aside, saw Mr. Jensen's fingers almost crumbling the paper, and dropped his eyelids.

Chris put the files down and closed his eyes.

Harvey didn't even dare to breathe freely. Although Mr. Jensen rarely went back to the old house, he was still Kane's son and Lukas's uncle.

He knew it well that Mr. Jensen was impotent. How did he assault his nephew's fiancée? Following Mr. Jensen for over a decade, he knew that he should just stand there like a background wall at the moment.

The man on the couch suddenly opened his dark eyes that were filled with ferocity and rare fury.

"The one who drugged me, regardless of identity, throw him or her to the largest red-light district in South America."

"Don't cause death. Murder is illegal!" Chris curled up his mouth and said blandly.

Although Mr. Jensen spoke like that, he didn't quite believe it.

"Yes, sir!" Harvey shivered.

After Harvey went out, Chris fixed his eyes on the face of the girl in the photo and looked blankly at her pretty smiling eyes.

He slowly got up, walked to the window, took out a cigarette, and lit it.

Under the moonlight, he seemed to see that pair of tearful eyes gazing at him both expectantly and desperately.

"Let me go... I'm engaged..."

His Adam's apple rolled slightly and his body felt hot. He narrowed his eyes, snapped his gaze back from outside, and looked at the wall of the adjacent room.

He acted as if he could see Joanna through the wall.

He tore off his tie, opened the top button of his shirt, pursed his lips, arched his bushy eyebrow, and threw the cigarette butt into the trash can.

Then, he took out a pair of gold-rimmed glasses from his pocket and put them on. Now he looked lazy, elegant, and nothing like the fierce man he was just now.

He curled up his lips, turned around, and got out of the room.

...

Knock...

There was a light knock on the door, but no one answered it.

Chris raised his hand, pushed the door open, and got in.

Joanna was asleep in the room with no lights on. Only pale moonlight slanted in through the window. It was all quiet and peaceful.

Chris walked to the bed and looked at the girl sleeping on the sickbed.

Compared with the photo, she looked more beautiful and vivid in flesh.

Because of the illness, she frowned slightly, pursed her pale lips, and looked very frail.

Chris reached out and smoothed her furrowed brows gently with his finger before running it down across her tender skin. The good feeling was like yesterday once more.

His fingertip stopped at her tender lips and stroked them gently.

Disturbed in her dream, Joanna slightly turned her head sideways. Chris's finger slid from her soft lips to her fair slender neck.

In the hospital gown with blue and white stripes, she looked more petite just like a child who stole the adult's clothes to wear. He couldn't help having tender feelings for her.

At the thought of the crazy last night, Chris ran his eyes across her slightly heaving chest.

His breathing suddenly became heavier while his deep eyes darkened. There seemed to be a roaring beast trapped inside threatening to break out of the cage.

Chris licked his lips and slowly bent over.
