Chapter 8 Giving Back
"I'm begging you... don't... don't touch me..."
Nose to nose, when Joanna talked in her dream, their lips contacted.
A soft and sweet sensation shot through his brains. Chris abruptly opened his eyes, took a small step back, and straightened up.
With mixed feelings, he looked at the girl on the sickbed for quite a while. He would not like to admit it but had to face the reality.
For some reason in his childhood, he was impotent.
He slept with her on the first night because he was drugged.
He did the same on the second night because he couldn't help it after eating the forbidden apple!
She, however, ran away.
Whether it was through a wall before or at the close range now, he somehow noticed his physiological reactions.
In this quiet ward, his strong heartbeat might be the only sound. He could even smell a sweet scent from the girl's body.
After some time, the agitation subsided. He reached out and nudged the girl in bed.
"Wake up."
"Huh?"
Joanna slowly woke up, found someone standing at the bed, and almost bounced up from the bed.
Chris beat her to reach out and accurately cover her mouth, "I mean you no harm. I'm just here to check on the one I saved and give back one item."
Joanna didn't believe him.
Facing a man in the dark suddenly reminded her of the raping scene, and her face turned ashy pale.
"Fear not, I won't hurt you."
The man sounded tender and hoarse. His voice was cool, gentle, and soothing though not familiar to her ears.
Joanna looked at the man and then the call bell before keeping her mouth up.
As the girl made a correct assessment of the situation, the corner of Chris's mouth curved up in a smile that soon faded away. He then slowly moved his hand to cover the girl's eyes.
"Wait a moment, I'm turning on the lights."
Tap...
The ward lit up. When he estimated that Joanna should have been accustomed to the light, he drew back his hand and stood in front of the sickbed to explain.
"I'm here late because of some business. I'm sorry to interrupt your sleep."
Noticing the vigilance on her face, Chris took out a small box from his pocket and handed it to her.
"Take a look."
Joanna pursed her lips and dully took it. The expressions on her pale face were a bit stiff.
When she saw the diamond ring in the small box, she abruptly raised her head and confirmed that he came to her rescue as soon as she was shoved off.
"I think... it should be important to you." His eyes were gentle while his voice was deep and pleasant.
Joanna got mixed feelings and forced a smile.
"Thank you."
The man before her eyes was very tall, about 1.9 meters.
He looked quite handsome. His cheeks were thin and his features were sculpted and smooth. Wearing a pair of gold-rimmed glasses, he looked refined, upright, reserved, and elegant.
He was in business pants and a white shirt with no ties on. The top two buttons of his shirt were loosed, which set off his lazy and casual air.
He was three steps away from the bed, a distance just enough to make her let her guard down.
Joanna dismissed her wild idea and felt embarrassed. Just now, she thought this man...
She shook her head to dispel the terrible memories.
Then her smile became pure and brilliant. Her dark pupils were clear and shiny. Her eyes curved, and she looked embarrassed to misunderstand him.
"S... sorry."
"By the way, I haven't thanked you for saving me." Her eyes suddenly lit up, and Joanna immediately thanked him.
If it wasn't for this man, she should have died innocently. After her death, her mother would exploit the last bit of value of her.
At that, Joanna hurriedly got up, but Chris pressed down on the quilt.
"No problem."
"But to me..." Joanna hurriedly shook her head.
"Don't think too much." Chris drew back his hand and curled up his lips. A faint smile appeared on his pretty face, "Nothing is larger than life."
Joanna froze and nodded with a smile.
