Chapter 9 Exposing

Correct!

Nothing was larger than life.

Joanna lifted her head and looked at Chris sincerely with a smile.

"Can you leave me your contact information?"

She had to repay his kindness when she recovered.

Chris nodded when Joanna remembered that her phone was lost.

Chagrined, she hurriedly turned around to look for a pen and a piece of paper without waiting for Chris to speak.

Just then, a cell phone was handed to her.

"Take it, you can contact me through the number on it. Return it to me when you recover." Chris smiled faintly.

Before she could reject it, Chris pointed to his wristwatch.

"It's late, and I still have unfinished business. Gotta go, keep in touch."

"Sure!"

"Take a good rest, I'll turn off the lights."

Joanna wanted to tell him that she could do it herself. The moment when she met his dark eyes, however, she kept her mouth shut and nodded slightly.

For a moment, she felt that the man allowed no rejection.

Tap.

The ward fell into darkness again. Joanna heard the leaving steps. The door was opened and then closed lightly.

She came to her senses and suddenly realized that she hadn't asked him his name.

Outside the ward, Chris gently rubbed his fingertips. After the gold-rimmed glasses were removed, his penetrating eyes looked deeper and dimmer.

The camouflaged beast suddenly revealed its predatory nature. His refined and elegant temperament in the ward vanished. Appalling coldness prevailed.

In the dark, Chris seemingly chuckled and left quickly.

The next morning, Mila headed straight to the old house of the Jensen family.

She ran into Kane who was ready to visit Joanna. The two then went to the study.

"Kane, to be honest, I'm here today to tell you something, a truth lest you blame the Bennett family later."

"Go ahead." Kane frowned.

Mila nodded her head, "Here is the thing. In fact, Joanna jumped into the river, not because of Lukas at all. She couldn't stand loneliness and fool around. Afraid that Lukas would find out, she chose to jump into the river to scare you."

"What?" Kane didn't believe her. Jo was not that kind of kid.

Mila coughed and spoke quickly.

"Kane, it's true. If that damn girl didn't tell me that she was raped through a call before jumping into the river, I would be still in the dark. The girl is damned, and Lukas is a good man. They have been engaged. Even though Lukas would not touch her, she could still be the young mistress and benefit from the Jensen family. How could she do such a shameless thing?"

"Hold... on!"

Mila was a bit confused to see a dazed Kane.

"Kane, what's wrong?"

"You said that... Jo called you before she jumped into the river?"

Mila nodded and smirked sarcastically.

"Yeah, she claimed that she was raped. Who would believe that?"

"What about... you? What did you say?" Kane's face turned pale and his lips trembled.

Mila looked embarrassed. It was inappropriate for her to mention those remarks to Kane.

"Well, Kane, the point is not about what I said..."

"Mila, did you curse Jo lowly and shameless?"

"Did you tell her to die?"

"You want her dead and hope to keep her status as the young mistress of the Jensen family?"

As Kane asked, Mila looked more and more embarrassed.

Of course, she was just embarrassed.
