Chapter 16 Acquaintance
When Joanna came out, Rey was answering a call. In the meanwhile, he pointed to a car parked outside as a signal for her to stay and manage the store.
Joanna nodded with a smile and started cleaning.
When a customer came in, she went over to inquire and got the required book as fast as she could.
In the crowded street and at a corner outside the store parked a black Maybach.
"Sir?"
Harvey sat in the copilot's seat, remembered a video conference in ten minutes, and called out.
"Spit it."
"Ten minutes later, you have an international video conference."
"Mm."
"At 2 p.m., you have an appointment with the chairman of Sky Group to talk about the cooperation on the new city property."
"Cancel!"
"At 4:00 p.m., you have..."
"Cancel!"
"Yes, sir!"
"At 8:00 p.m., you..."
"Cancel!"
"Yes, sir."
At the beginning of the new semester, the book center received a lot of customers. Each store was crowded.
Despite the distance, Chris had such great eyesight that he saw the girl hustling at the entrance from time to time.
With a smile, she looked bright and clean.
She had a tall figure, a slender waist, and wore a saggy uniform.
Her sweater was white, her pants black, and on her feet was a pair of canvas shoes.
Her ponytail was casually combed up into a cute bun.
In the beginning, she looked a bit pale. As she got busy, her fair cheeks turned rosy.
Compared with other bookstores, the one the girl was in boasted triple customers, most of whom were college students in their twenties.
And compared to the other two clerks in the bookstore, she had more customers who waited in a long line.
Chris frowned, pushed the door open, and got off the car.
"Sir, your international video conference."
"Cancel!"
Harvey was stunned...
Even though he had been used to Mr. Jensen's cold and stern nature, he was still a bit baffled.
Nearly three billion yuan's net profit was likely to be gone.
He intended to advise again, only to find Mr. Jensen taking out a pair of gold-rimmed glasses and putting them on. His dashing eyebrows were covered, and his grim facial line softened.
He pushed the door open and got off. Soon, the tall figure joined the hustling crowd.
Harvey was dumbfounded...
He had a terrible feeling!
As busy as a beaver, Joanna looked for books for the customers while briefly answering their questions.
After finding the book for a customer, she raised her head, gave her signature broad smile, and spoke in a brisk, soft voice.
"Hello, how can I... help you?"
Wearing a white shirt, black suit pants, and gold-rimmed glasses, the man looked refined, lazy, and noble.
His impeccable features looked so familiar.
Joanna came to her senses and gave a brighter smile.
"Sir, it's you."
"Yep." Chris curled up his lips.
"You're discharged from the hospital so soon?" Chris looked disapproving, "The water is cold in early spring, and girls, in particular, should take care of themselves."
"I'm always in perfect health and come to work after I'm sure of my condition." Joanna was grateful for the other party's concern.
Chris continued before she could ask him his name, "Good, otherwise, my rescue would be meaningless."
Without waiting for Joanna to reply, Chris spoke the intention of his trip, "I'm here to buy books. Please help me find A Random Walk Down Wall Street by Burton Malkiel, Investment Banking in the Financial System by Charles R. Geisst, and The Alchemy of Finance by George Soros."
Then he smiled.
"Thanks."
Joanna had to swallow back her inquiry about his name and hurriedly nodded without pleasantries.
"Sure, please wait a moment."
She turned around to get the books when the man's deep, attractive voice came over again from behind, "No rush, I'm not in a hurry."
Joanna hesitated and then pointed to a lounge.
"Well... how about you take a rest in here? I'll get the books and send them over."
Chris curled up his lips in a gentle manner.
"Okay, thanks."
