Chapter 6 How Do You Know?
"We want medium steaks along with your best sashimi and raw beef," Norah ordered arrogantly.
As all food she ordered was raw, those older male relatives looked sullen but dared not to complain.
After taking the orders, the manager looked at Eliza, seemingly waiting for her instructions.
"I want a bowl of rice, a bowl of pear soup, a meat dish, and a vegetable dish." She ordered what she liked to eat.
"Eliza, what do you think of this place is? Don't make a spectacle of yourself!" Norah immediately ridiculed.
"Yeah, Eliza, I assume you've never had western food before in the countryside."
"Mason married such a bumpkin?"
For a time, people were whispering, gesticulating, disdaining, and taunting Eliza.
"There is no Chinese food here." Mason also spoke like a cold-blooded killer.
"How do you know?" Eliza looked at him, her voice bland and nonchalant.
"Manager, tell this bumpkin! Don't dread her status as Manson's wife!" Rose acted as a flunky. Following her speech, she hurriedly hid for fear of Mason's anger.
In fact, Mason didn't even bother to look at her. Instead, he looked at Eliza with interest and wondered what she was up to.
Of one accord, the others all looked at her with sarcasm in their eyes. They were laughing at her as an ignorant hick. In an authentic western restaurant, she somehow asked for Chinese food, which really disgraced Mason.
Eliza, however, just turned a deaf ear and a blind eye to their taunts.
Just then, the manager said something that shocked everyone. "Yes, madam, I'll prepare them right away. Please wait a moment!"
Those in the booth were all stunned! They thought that they had hallucinations!
"Manager, isn't this a western restaurant without even a pair of chopsticks? Why do you have Chinese food? Is it because Mansion..." Rose questioned him immediately.
Before her speech was finished, everyone understood her meaning.
Given Mason's influence, the manager didn't dare to refuse.
"Manager, don't worry; Mason is not an unreasonable man and certainly will not break the rules of the restaurant for the sake of an ignorant person." The old lady said sanctimoniously.
The others chimed in tactfully, mocking Eliza as an ignorant bumpkin in voices dripping acid.
Everyone could see that the Burns Family didn't welcome the new wife, and even Mason had been frosty. Therefore, they sensibly took sides with Norah.
Mason was disgusted by such a hubbub and had a headache.
He looked around coldly. Daunted by his icy gaze, the others all shut up their mouths.
However, Eliza enjoyed her tea as if everyone in the booth, except Mason, was just air to her.
Facing the bitter objections, the manager was a little surprised but soon collected himself. With a standard smile, he spoke again respectfully and shockingly, "Mrs. Burns and other guests are correct. Indeed, we don't have Chinese food, but Miss Greer is an exception."
"Why? Because she is Mason's wife?" Norah immediately pulled a long face.
