Chapter 10 Remarkable Assets
Alyssa kept wiping the water off Leon as calmly as if she did not hear Mrs. Hunter at all.
However, some water seeped into Leon's dark suit and formed stains.
When she touched his pants, she suddenly felt the man's body stiffened slightly.
She lowered her head, and Leon's rigid body relaxed a bit.
Glaring at Alyssa, Mrs. Hunter said with a snort, "Stop acting! Let's see how you're going to pretend when your family comes to borrow money from the Hunters!"
Right after the woman finished her words, the television began to broadcast local financial news.
The headline was actually about the Graham Group.
Alyssa turned around to take Leon's hand, saying, "Look, it's about my family."
With her arms crossed before her chest, Mrs. Hunter said, "Listen carefully, the stocks of your family business dropped the other day greatly. It's about to go bankrupt."
"It is reported that the Graham Group, which was said to be suffering from a setback three days ago, has just purchased a foreign company at 8:30 this morning. It means that the group basically monopolizes the diamond industry in A City and is becoming the second-largest group after the Hunter Family. Half an hour ago, reporters were informed by the Graham Group's headquarters that the corporation's assets have exceeded ten billion!"
At the news, Mrs. Hunter froze in an instant.
She literally heard the Graham Family was going bankrupt.
How come its assets suddenly exceeded ten billion?
It was second to the Hunter Family only.
As Mrs. Hunter was about to say something, she saw Grandpa Hunter walking over to them from inside.
The woman immediately flashed a gentle smile, pretending to be a gracious elder.
Alyssa spared no attention to the hypocritical woman and took Leon's hand, saying, "Grandpa is here."
Leon held Alyssa's hand, greeting, "Grandpa, good morning."
"Morning. Alyssa, did you sleep well last night?" Looking at the young, slim woman in a red dress, Grandpa Graham said with a content smile, "Come and sit next to me."
Alyssa stepped forward, but Leon did not let go of her hand. She walked back to the man and whispered something in his ear. Then, Leon loosened his grip.
Grandpa Hunter flashed a smile upon witnessing how obedient Leon was in front of Alyssa. "It seems that you two are getting along quite well. Alyssa, do you feel satisfied to have Leon as your husband?"
"Yes, I do."
She had never been this satisfied in her life.
At this moment, Mrs. Hunter burst out laughing, then said to Grandpa Hunter, "You probably have no idea of this. This lady from the Graham Family doesn't seem to like our Leon. They didn't sleep with each other last night. If you don't believe me, you may ask the cook, who can prove that what I've said is true. The two of them actually didn't rest in the same room on their wedding night."
Grandpa Hunter fixed his eyes upon Alyssa, asking, "Alyssa, did you really not sleep with Leon last night?"
Alyssa avoided eye contact with Grandpa Hunter and tilted her head to look at Leon with embarrassment.
Leon, however, pretended that he did not see anything and stayed motionless like a chump.
Alyssa made up her mind, then leaned in closer to the older man and whispered in his ear.
After listening to what Alyssa said, Grandpa Hunter nodded. Instead of reproaching Alyssa, he flashed a pleasant smile.
Alyssa smiled back at the older man and said in a light voice, "Grandpa, I'll try my best."
"Remember to measure the time and tell me the good news once you have it."
"No worries. I will and won't let you down."
"Leon, you must spare more time to keep Alyssa company and never upset her." With that, the older man took Alyssa's hand, continuing, "I initially wanted to give you a red packet, but now I think it's not worthy of you. How about I give you five percent of the Hunter Group's shares?"
"Thank you, Grandpa. You're the best."
Alyssa then gave Grandpa Hunter a big hug, which deepened his smile. To please the older man even further, Alyssa kissed him on the cheek.
It was rare for Grandpa Hunter to get a hug like this. He said in a cheerful tone, "Alyssa, promise that you'll come to visit me frequently in the future and treat me like your own grandfather. I will not allow anyone to bully you or make things difficult for you."
"I promise." Alyssa stared at Grandpa Hunter with a beatific look in her eyes. "I'm so lucky to have you backing me up, Grandpa."
