Chapter 18 Holding Hands
His voice was gentle as the first breeze of spring. It blew past, creating ripples on the surface of the lake.
"It... doesn't hurt." Her fair, delicate earlobes flushed. For a moment, she forgot those bad things Jim had done to her, and her heart pounded loudly in the quiet cabin.
To Jim's eyes, her shyness was like a blooming water lily, fragrant and cool. The ardency in his eyes melted away.
His hand holding her wrist suddenly stiffened and instantly let go. His handsome face flushed a little. Clearing his throat, he turned his head away and forced himself to watch the fleeting scenery outside the window.
Darn it!
He secretly clenched his fists. Why did his heart soften again? Jim, had you forgotten who abandoned you and caused the disintegration of your family back then?
His tenderness soon turned into winter frost.
In a trance, Sophia looked at her wrist that hung in mid-air and the man who showed her the back of his head. Slowly she lowered her hand and gave a bitter smile in her heart.
Sure enough, his tenderness was just an accident.
The car ran fast and soon reached the destination.
Before the car stopped steadily, Jim hastily pushed open the door and got off, trying to keep a distance from her. He was afraid that his heart would lose control if they were so close again.
In Sophia's view, he detested her and would not like to stay at the same place with her.
"Miss Miller, here we are, you can get off now."
The driver's voice brought her back to reality. Sophia hurriedly responded, took her bag, and got off.
Jim took a deep breath of the fresh air, cooled down, and then took an impatient glance at her, "Hurry up."
"Sorry." Without explaining anything, she caught up with her bag.
Her curvy figure, the makeup today, and her refined temperament made her a perfect match for the brilliant man beside her.
She stood there for a while and asked curiously as the man wouldn't move, "Aren't we getting in?"
Only then did she recognize the very casino she came to yesterday.
Jim didn't know about that incident, so this might be just a coincidence? At the thought of the terrible experience last night, she paled uncontrollably and grasped the bag with her cold hands to ease her anxiety.
Jim glanced at her tactfully and detected the unwitting fear on her face. A flicker of coldness flashed across his eagle's eyes.
"Hold my arm." He demanded indifferently.
"Huh?" Sophia was taken aback.
"Stupid." Jim knitted his brows impatiently, reached out his big hand, and grasped her cold hand in his palm, "Stay close, don't expect me to look for you if you get lost."
Then he strode into the casino with her in tow.
His palm was broad and hot. As soon as it touched her cold hand, she got goosebumps.
A stream of warmth from their clasped hands flowed into her heart.
Silently, Sophia followed the man, looked at his tall figure, and felt much less fear.
