Chapter 19 Impatient Mr. Reid
Following the voice, Victor looked over, and his eyes went dim.
The day when he came back, Brian placed Theo by his side as a mole.
Under his simple skin was actually a sophisticated mind.
Victor just took a casual and brief glance at him, but that was enough to make his skin crawl and his palms sweat cold.
He took a deep breath and shouted, "No matter what, you cannot disturb Mr. Reid today!"
He spoke aloud for Victor to hear but immediately whispered a warning.
"Mr. Pate, it's a misunderstanding between Miss Pate and me. If madam and you don't leave now, there will be consequences!"
Bruce looked at him in such a way as if he had seen through his thoughts, and Theo felt embarrassed.
Victor looked away from them and slowly rolled down the window.
What came in was a pungent smell of perfume and Emelia's flatteries.
"Mr. Reid, I heard that it's your birthday today. In the past, we didn't have a chance to celebrate it with you. Today, we're here to bring you a present. I'm sure you'll like it!"
Victor never celebrated his birthday. Every member of his family knew it.
The year when he came back, many people from the upper-class tried to throw a birthday party for him, but he didn't attend it. This year was no exception.
"Mrs. Pate, that's very kind of you. Only I'm tired today and inconvenient to entertain any guest, so Mr. Pate and you can go back now." Victor said blandly.
His message for the guests to leave was clear, but Emelia pretended that she didn't get it.
"Victor, that's too polite of you, but we'll be soon a family. The present is just a token of our regard. You see, Bruce and I are tired from the standing. Shall we go inside and talk?"
Over the years, the Pates got close with the Reids and learned about something.
Victor valued Half Life Garden so much that he allowed no outsiders to come close.
If they got in and the news got out, it would mean that Victor acknowledged the Pate family.
Moreover, they prepared a special birthday gift and just waited to get in...
Victor knew her intentions pretty clear but would not wrestle with them pointlessly today.
"Theo, see the guests down the mountain."
He was so straightforward this time that Emelia could no longer play dumb.
She paled, found it improper to throw a tantrum, and had to smile flatteringly, "Victor, you see, we're already here. Couldn't we have a cup of tea?"
"Mrs. Pate."
Victor said indifferently, and Emelia somehow felt a shiver down her spine. The inexplicable pressure made her breathless.
"M... Mr. Reid, I'm listening..."
Under the dim light in the cabin, he slightly raised his eyes. Appalled, Emelia felt weak and almost knelt on the ground.
"I don't know how to make tea. Mr. Pate and you are probably not used to it. How about you pay a visit to Brian's house another day and ask for a cup of his tea."
Victor didn't change his tone, but Emelia trembled with fear and dared not refute.
Bruce scolded discontentedly, "Is that how you treat a senior? Do you look down on us? Do we have to tell Brian about this?"
A bang suddenly came from the trunk, and Victor's third eye area popped...
Bruce mistook it as a sign of his anger and trembled. His arrogance was dampened immediately, and he explained cautiously.
"Mr. Reid, I didn't mean to threaten you. After all, we'll be family soon, but you give us a cold shoulder. If this got out, wouldn't people laugh at us?"
Victor was a cultured man but not that patient with irrelevant people.
He got off unhurriedly and pressed the trunk back down, "Will you walk or roll down the mountain?"
