Chapter 5 Tattoo for Couples
Jennifer pushed open the red wooden door. What came into view was a bit different from her imagination.
There were only two beds, a table, and some tattoo pictures. Though shabby, the cabin was antique and... pervaded with wisps of incense.
She took a light breath and felt quite refreshed.
"Hi, how can I help you?" A woman in a dress asked gently.
"I want a tattoo. Can I choose my own pattern?"
"Sure, you name it!"
"Okay, I prefer Lycoris Radiata, aka equinox flower. This is the pattern I like, take a look!"
Jennifer handed her a white handkerchief. On it... lay a red Lycoris Radiata. The flower was blooming but imbued with sadness.
The woman held her breath, probably because no one had ever asked her to tattoo such a distressing flower.
According to Buddhist scriptures, "It takes 1,000 years for the equinox flowers to bloom and another 1,000 years for them to wither away. The flowers and leaves never meet each other. There is no cause and result in love because it is predestined."
"You sure about this?" The woman asked to confirm.
"Yes!"
Jennifer curled up her lips. This was her carefully selected and perfect flower.
About an hour later, everything was set, and the shop owner asked, "Where do you want the tattoo on?"
"There is a scar on my abdomen. Are you able to cover it with a tattoo?" Jennifer asked gently.
The shop owner nodded. Actually, there were a lot of women using tattoos to cover the surgical scars from cesarean. Only she couldn't figure out the purpose of Jennifer's tattoo.
"Lie down!" The shop owner demanded.
Jennifer lay down on one bed and lifted her clothes to reveal the scar on her abdomen.
She waited quietly!
All of a sudden... the heavy wooden door was booted open. Jennifer looked sideways and saw a fierce Ethan.
"What are you doing here?" She looked shocked, but her eyes remained calm.
"To do what you are doing." Ethan abruptly bent over, adjusted her clothes with one hand, carried her in his arms, and strode out.
"Ethan, put me down, my business is not done yet." She struggled.
His cold voice came out, "What business? Tattoo?"
"Yes..." She admitted briskly, "Didn't you regard the scar on my belly ugly? My future husband might share the same view, so before the wedding, I need to embellish it!"
"Wedding, you sure you can tie the knot?" His face remained icy.
"Why not?" She asked back.
His mouth was pursed into a firm line. Without saying another word, he put her in the car and asked the driver to start the engine.
After quite some time, the car pulled off in front of a high-end clubhouse.
A possibility crossed her mind, and then... it was proved correct.
Ethan grabbed her hand, walked straight into a room, and spoke in a cold voice, "Don't you want a tattoo? We'll have one for couples."
