Chapter 3

A ping on her phone indicated a text message from Sky and saved her from further embarrassment. She checked her message and it read a 'Can we text now if you're free?' and she was more than happy to use it as an excuse to get out of that embarrassing situation and mumbled, 'I need to rush to office William. Its almost 10:00 now and they're already missing me. It was nice meeting you again Mr. Brown'. She didn't even give a second glance before she dashed off to office.

'Well well, if its not our star performer of the day Ms. Amelia Woods, coming in late after her celebration', came a sarcastic voice from behind her and she knew instantly that it was Catherine, who was all sweet and charming with others, but somehow when faced alone with Amelia, like now, would unleash her claws. 'Thank you Cathy, I had a wonderful celebration yeah', she replied, not bothering to retort with another equally sarcasm laced reply, and strode off towards her boss, Mr. John Porter's office.

She knocked on his door and waited for him to respond. 'Come in', his voice came from inside his office. She went in and greeted him and he looked up at her with a smile, obviously pleased at her for successfully convincing Mrs. Moore to part with her millions, in investment. It had always been a challenge to convince Mrs. Moore but Amelia had successfully closed the account, and that was indeed a big deal.

'Mr. Porter, were you looking for me?', she asked him and waited for him to reply. 'Congratulations Amelia, you've outdone your previous achievements. This was a very important account for us to secure and you did it. The company is very proud of you, and I, for one, can't be more happier. As you know I'll be retiring soon, and the head office was planning to send someone young to head this office so I recommended them your name. I hope to see you leading this office to greater heights Amelia', he exhorted her and she couldn't be more happier than she was right now. At least her career would be going in the right direction even if her personal life wasn't, she thought to herself and smiled happily.

She headed to her cubicle and texted a reply to Sky, 'Hey, sorry, I was busy earlier, but we could text now' and hit send. She got an immediate response from him and wondered if he had been staring into his phone, waiting for her reply. She rolled her eyes at herself for thinking such absurd thoughts and laughed out, but considering others were busy working, stopped herself from making a fool out of herself by laughing out loud.

'So, how'd the meeting with your client go?', the text read and she wondered if she had disclosed her meeting with Mrs. Moore to Sky, but without thinking much, she texted back, 'It went great. So far so good :)', she added a smiley emoji as she didn't mind him texting in a normal way, without the usage of SMS lingo which she strongly disliked. She did not understand why people got so lazy to type even the easy words and made the reader do the difficult job of decoding one's messages.

She thought her reply might have seemed curt to him and wondered if he would reply, but since she had pent up works to do, she didn't give a second thought and carried on with her works. After around five more minutes passed by, another ping sounded an incoming text message, and thinking that it might be Sky, just randomly texting back a reply, she concentrated on her task in hand.

After a few hours and a few calls to her clients from her office phone, she checked her personal phone, having completely forgotten about replying back to the text message she received. She quickly checked for the message, but to her surprise, it had been an unknown number with the shortest text message the sender could have written, 'Brad here', as if that alone could explain everything why he had written to her or from where he had got her number. For the second question, she assumed, William might have given her number to him, but she was still wondering why would Brad text her.

She added his number to his contacts and composed a reply back, but she had nothing to write. After many failed attempts , she sent a simple reply, 'Hello'. She did not expect him to reply back immediately, but he did and she wondered if everyone was very much prompt in replying unlike her, who took ages to come up with a decent reply. His message was short and to the point ,' Meet later?', and she assumed, he might be a very practical person himself but that didn't give him right to just ask her to meet him up. She did not even know him until this morning and he was already asking her out, he had to be really gutsy or maybe he was just too cocky.
