Chapter 4

She checked her watch and the time read 2:30 p.m. She was already late for lunch and she was pretty much doing nothing but texting apart from a few hours of work she put in, so she decided to continue clearing all her pent up works and decided to not bother with replying to Brad's message. Still she wondered why he wanted to meet up with her and curiosity got the better of her, so she took her phone and typed in, 'Sure, at your dad's coffee shop at 5:00pm?'.

She didn't know him well enough even though she had known William for almost a decade now, but knowing William didn't mean she could just blindly trust in his son, so she chose William's coffee shop as the meeting spot.

'Sure', his reply pinged in, and she shoved aside her curiosity, as she typed in her presentation that had to be shown to one of her possible clients, a Mr. Darek Sinclair, who was a self made billionaire, and a very meticulous person. She had never met him but had heard of a lot of news about his achievements in the recent years, and she knew that she had to be very well versed in her presentation if she was to successfully convince him to invest.

After trying for a good two years, their company had finally managed to arrange a meeting with him so they had only one chance to either make it or loose it. Since it was a very important account for them, his file had landed on her desk and it only meant more stress for her as the more important the file was, the more stressful it was to actually convince the client.

She finally managed to complete the presentation by 4:50 pm, and by that time, almost all her colleagues had gone home. She saved the draft in her desktop, and for her own assurance, she sent a copy of the file to her personal mail as a back up. She shut down her computer and turned off the lights as she turned to go to the coffee shop to meet Brady. 'Goodnight Mr. Martinez', she greeted the guard as she left office and entered the coffee shop to a smiling Wöilliam and Brady. They had apparently been waiting for her, she thought and couldn't help but wonder why William was here as well.

'Amelia, let me formally introduce you to my son Brady, who I mentioned to you about', he said and I wondered if Brady had agreed to his dad's preposterous proposition as well, and he turned to Brady, ' and this is the very charming Ms. Amelia Woods'. 'Like I said, it was nice meeting you. I wish we had met in other circumstances, without my dad having to play the matchmaker', at this he turned to his father and gave a stern look, but William only shrugged and had a smug look on his face.

'But, having said that, I would like to get to know you better', he said and she was dumbfounded. Why would this tall and apparently charming man want to get to know her? Of course, she had been told on more than one occasions, that she was beautiful but she never believed them. She felt like she was just another red head with green eyes and a slightly tan complexion. She was of mixed race having grandparents from Asian, Hispanic and Caucasian, and growing up, she had been bullied by her peers of having all the races in her family, so it affected her with her self esteem .

'Thank you, but I can only remain friends. I don't want to give you any false hopes but there is no harm in being friends', she replied to him. William, who was in the counter, kept on glancing at their side and gave a wink to Amelia, who could only blush furiously. While she loved William to bits, she didn't like this meddling side of him, but she couldn't say that now.

They both decided to remain friends and Amelia decided to take her leave, when William came up to her and said, 'Amelia dear, I'm sorry if I have meddled too much with all of these', he gestured towards his son and added, 'but I'm only doing this so I could have the honor of being your father-in-law. Of course, if it doesn't work out, you'd still be my very own daughter'. She was moved at his words and gave him a warm hug and replied, 'Thank you William, you have and will always remain a father figure to me'.

'Let me drop you off to your place', Brady offered her, but she politely declined saying, 'Thanks Brady, my car is parked just right there', and pointed towards the Honda civic. She waved a goodbye to both and drove home. It had been an eventual day and she could not wait to reach home and sleep off and wake up for the meeting tomorrow with Mr. Darek Sinclair.
