Contemporary Romance>A groom for Amelia>Chapter 7
Chapter 7
"Amelia, good morning. An early morning today as well? A cappuccino as usual?", William said as soon as she walked into the cafe. She couldn't be more pleased with the lovely old man and replied a quick,"And your very best cupcakes and doughnuts. I'm starving".
"Work is important, but your health is important as well",Brady, who was at the counter going through his dad's books of accounts remarked. "Good morning to you too Brady",she wished him. He smiled at her and wished her back. "So,was it a very important client, for you to skip breakfast?",he asked and not wanting to give into explaining the whole situation, she simply shrugged.
"Here you go Amelia, just as you like it",William brought her coffee and her very favourite chocolate cupcakes and chocolate glazed doughnuts. "As much as I'm hungry, I don't think I can finish all of these. Please help me finish it", Amelia said, inviting William and Brady to join with her breakfast.
As they were happily drinking coffee and discussing about Amelia's 'not so successful' meeting with Mr. Darek Sinclair, she saw a figure from her peripheral vision approach towards the cafe and watch them.
'What was Mr. Sinclair doing here at the coffee shop? Didn't he have other important things to attend to?',those were the first thoughts that ran in Amelia's mind, however, since he was already here, she might as well use this chance to show him her hospitality, just at the rare chance that he might consider her proposition for investment, she smiled wickedly.
"Hello again Mr. Sinclair. Why don't you join us for a cup of coffee? Its the very best one in town",she said and beamed at him. She wasn't sure if he would accept her offer but to her surprise, he let out an equally pleased smile and replied,"Sure, why not".
She introduced them to each other and was surprised when Brady and Darek shook their hands, looking like they were sizing each other up. 'Men and their ego', she thought to herself and continued to nonchalantly continue having her breakfast, while gesturing for Darek and Brady to have a seat.
"What would you prefer Mr. Sinclair?",William asked him and he replied,"Whatever she's having". "A cup of cappuccino coming right up",William said and went to the back kitchen to prepare the cappuccino for Mr. Sinclair.
"So, what brings you here Mr. Sinclair? You missed your breakfast as well?",Brady asked and she couldn't help but wince at his accusatory tone, so instead she answered with,"Try these cupcakes, they're just to die for", and offered them to the both of them. "Thank you Ms. Woods, and to answer to Mr. Brown's question, I have to say that I haven't had my breakfast yet, hence the coffee", Mr. Sinclair said and Amelia could only shift uncomfortably in her seat at the growing tension between the two men.
Just as she was about to pitch in her products to Mr. Sinclair, his phone rang and he answered it irritably,"What now?Jared causing trouble again?". Though Amelia couldn't hear what the voice on the other end was speaking, but by the looks on Mr. Sinclair's face, she knew that he was not particularly interested in carrying on with the conversation.
After he hung up the call, Mr. Sinclair turned to Amelia and said, "Ms. Woods, I'll be in touch with you regarding your proposal. I still need to look over some of the data but you can arrange for a meeting with Joseph for next week." "Sure Mr. Sinclair. Thank you very much,I promise you won't regret investing with us", Amelia smiled courteously and shook hands with him, while all along, she was cursing him on his arrogance.
"I'll take your leave for now. Mr. Brown, Ms. Woods",he nodded at both of them and left. Amelia felt like today was just not her day and sighed as she drank her coffee and excused herself from Brady and went to the billing counter where William was,to pay her bills.
"Its on the house Amelia dear. Consider it this old man's way of thanking you by making his son come over to the coffe shop to have breakfast with his old man",he winked at Amelia and she smiled helplessly.
' The old man really meant business to bring them together apparently, but why would Brady come to the coffee shop just for her sake',she wondered
"Thank you William, but this can't happen everytime your son comes here for breakfast with us,eh? You've got a business to run",she told William, trying to sound stern but he just brushed it off laughing.
"Once my dad decides it, you won't be able to convince him otherwise, much like his son", Brady said looking at Amelia, making her feel like he wasn't talking about the bills, but about himself.
'Awkward',she thought to herself, nevertheless, she smiled at him courteously and thanked them before leaving.
Once at the office, Naomi barged in to her cubicle and started rambling to her about her wedding to do lists and just how tiring it was to watch her weight to fit into the dream wedding gown. "The worst thing about it is that Edward just says he's fine with everything as long as I'm ok with it. I mean its sweet and all that, but I do need that assurance from him that he's ok with it too right? Am I wrong to think that its as much as his wedding as its mine?", she complained.
Amelia laughed at her friend and said,"What would you do if he said he didn't like your ideas?". "Probably make him understand why my choice is much better than his",she shrugged. "There you go, there's the answer to all your complaints. He just wants you happy, and seeing you happy is what makes him contended. Simple",Amelia reassured her.
Naomi sighed and lowered her voice as she told Amelia,"Between us, I don't know if I'm ready for marriage with him. I mean, I love him to the moon and back and all that crap, but am I doing the right thing by marrying him after dating for just a year? I'm having second thoughts Mia".
Amelia didn't know what to say to salvage the situation so she said,"Breathe Nao. Its just your pre wedding jitters. Its true that you've dated for only a year or so, but you've been good friends for the past five years, that counts as well, right? Sometimes, its not about how long you've dated a person, its about what you feel for that person and the connection you share. You two are perfect and complement each other, so fret not, you'll do great".
She felt like a hypocrite consoling Naomi with her words, when she herself had many doubts and questions when it came to finding the one, but she knew both Edward and Naomi, and anyone could see that they were just right for each other. She only wished she would meet someone like that as well, but was she being too choosy, she sighed.
