A ping in her phone indicated an incoming message from Sky and as she tried to read the message, Naomi, after seeing the name on her phone screen, jolted in excitement,"Hurry up,let me see what he wrote you. I'm telling you Mia, he's all that you want in your dream guy. Tall, not-so-dark,and handsome,just the way you want your man".

Amelia laughed at her friend's antics, this girl could exaggerate,"Why didn't you go out with him then? You seem to be enchanted by his charms",she joked. "Eww Mia, don't be gross. He's my cousin from my mom's side".

"Oops, my bad. I didn't know that",she smiled sheepishly and added,"but in my defence, you didn't tell me and neither did he".

"Mia, I just know you two will be great together. Just get to know him, be friends with him alright?",she said and Amelia could only smile at her and nod. She wasn't going to tell her friend that she didn't see anything develop between her and Sky,at least not right now with the way things were going.

"There you are, I've been looking for you. Mom wants me to invite you to dinner tonight and introduce you to some friends",Edward said to Naomi and turned to Amelia and said,"Hi Amelia, how's it going with you and Sky?"

'Really Naomi?',she thought to herself and turned to Naomi with a questioning look. "What? He's going to be my better half so its only fair I share everything with him",Naomi shrugged and replied as if that answered everything, and quickly hurried off with Edward, who looked as confused as ever. He had only asked a simple question right?

Amelia sighed at how the day was just not going right,so she turned to her work to divert her mind. She quickly read the message Sky had sent, and typed a quick reply to his 'good morning' message and got back to work.

"So I heard you wasted the time and resources of the company and Mr. Sinclair",Catherine snorted from behind her. Just another person to spoil her day,great,she thought. When she did not reply, Catherine continued,"Do you know how difficult it was to secure an appointment with Mr. Sinclair? You just had to waste it didn't you?"

"Catherine, actually, I didn't 'waste' it",she air quoted the words 'waste',"I actually managed to secure another meeting with him as he was busy today and wanted to go over the data,like any wise investor",she simply told her which managed to shut her for a few minutes.

"You actually believe he'll give you a second meeting? Dream away Amelia",she scoffed at her and turned to leave when she suddenly seemed to have remembered something and looked at Amelia with a smirk,"I've got another good news for you, but I'll let you enjoy your day for now,cause spoiler alert, you're not going to like it".

She laughed out at her own words and left Amelia wondering just what was waiting for her that made Catherine laugh like the evil witch she was.

She didn't have to wait for long before she got her answer,when Mr. John Porter called her to his office. The door was wide open so before she knocked on the door, John looked up and ushered her in.

"You wanted to see me Mr. Porter?",she asked him. He looked quite perturbed today and this made Amelia wonder if this had anything to do with the surprise Catherine was talking about.

"Amelia",he started and then helplessly added,"My retirement is official and starting the end of today,I'll no longer be your boss".

Amelia sighed knowing that she would terribly miss this man who was like a father figure to her, always believing in her and encouraging her. But she was still happy for her as retirement meant he would get to spend more time with his lovely wife and their lovely grandchildren. She gave him an encouraging smile and said, "I'll miss you around here but congratulations on achieving your milestone working here, and my best wishes to you for your future Mr. Porter."

He gave a rueful smile and added,"I tried to give you my position, I really did. But the head office chose someone else who they've roped in from our rival company." He shrugged his shoulders and added,"Seems like he graduated from abroad and has many achievements, so they wanted him to head this office. I'm sorry Amelia. I thought it would be you to take my place but I could only suggest,rest was for them to decide".

She felt like this piece of news was the cherry topping to her day, and couldn't get any worse. No wonder Catherine couldn't hide her apparent glee. Amelia wouldn't be getting promoted, but since she had little hopes about the promotion, it didn't hurt much. But she did feel sorry that she wouldn't be able to boss around Catherine.

"Thank you Mr. Porter,you've already done so much for me. I'm really glad to have worked under your wing. It doesn't matter whether I'm promoted or not, what matters is that I hope the new boss will be half as good as you are",she smiled at him and he could only smile and nod.

She came back to her cubicle, and decided to go over to the nearest gift shop to buy a little souvenir for Mr. Porter. Just as she entered the gift shop, she saw Brady, apparently looking at some gift items as well.

She walked up to him and said,"Hi, fancy meeting you here". He turned to look at her and smiled,"Thank God you're here. Help me choose a gift please?".

She wondered who he was buying the gift for and din't even realise that she had spoken her thought out loud. He chuckled and replied,"Its for an acquaintance who is retiring and I need to fill in his vacant position. I just thought it might be good to buy him a farewell gift".

'How thoughtful',she thought to herself and decided to help the poor man, after all she was here to buy a farewell gift as well. "Sure, I'm here to buy a farewell gift for my old boss as well coincidently, so I could suggest a few things. Like,..here, this mug looks nice, and this gift set here looks nice as well",she gestured him towards the gifts and he looked at her questioningly with eyebrows raised as if he thought she was just pulling his legs.

"What? I'm buying my old boss this aromatherapy set cause I know he likes it",she said while picking up the aromatherapy set and added,"you could give them something they like as well". "I think I'll go with this gift set",he said and got the gift set Amelia had pointed out.

"Thank you Ms. Woods, for helping me with the very difficult task of choosing a gift for my predecessor",he said and she laughed out,"Like I helped you. I just pointed out the obvious gift set which was right in front of me, and please call me Amelia."

"Sure,Amelia",he smiled and looked at her as though he wanted to say something. "Amelia, I ..",just as he started, Amelia's phone started ringing and she held up her hands,"Excuse me Brady, I need to take this. Its from office".

She swiped her phone to answer the call, but even before she could say hello, Naomi's voice from the other end started ,"Where the hell are you? Mr. Porter's farewell party is in a few minutes and apparently, the new boss is dropping in as well."

'How long was she gone for?',she thought to herself and replied to Naomi,"I'm on my way". "Come back soon",she said and hung up.

She turned to Brady and said,"I'm sorry, I need to rush. They're all waiting for me to attend my old boss,Mr. Porter's farewell." She remembered that Brady had to say something, but since the others at the office were waiting for her,she added,"About what you had to say, can we talk later?". He shrugged and she took that as a yes and left hurriedly.

By the time she reached office, everyone had already assembled at the conference room and Mr. Porter was giving his farewell speech. She quietly stood in a corner and watched the old man get emotional as he gave his speech. When his speech almost came to an end, he looked around and took his phone to call someone.

"We're at the conference hall,please come up here. You can ask the security for the directions",he said to possibly their new boss and he hung up the call. After a few minutes, a tall man,walked in to the conference hall and Amelia was shocked as she recognized who it was, before Mr. Porter announced, "Let me introduce you to your new regional director,Mr. Brady Brown. He'll be your new boss starting today".
