Contemporary Romance>I Love you, ok?>Chapter 2, Welcome to Pioneer
Chapter 2, Welcome to Pioneer
Prince was charming. He was very confident and precise at all times. He had an accommodating aura and a subtle air of dominance around him. He broke a smile at Katie. He knew she liked him. ‘Errhmmm’ Betty cleared her throat. Katie immediately snapped out of trance; ‘this is Betty, she’s my best friend’ Katie introduced to Prince. Betty smiled and let out a short wave, Prince smiled back at her; ‘Hello Betty’ he said Betty smiled at him without saying a word.
‘You ladies come over this way’ he beckoned. He took them to his spot; it was the VIP section, it was his party after all. Now Katie and Betty saw more extravagance. The general section was nothing compared to the VIP. It was a golden experience. Literally. It oozed even more class. It was a dock. They went down a spiral staircase with gold banisters. At the end of the stairs was a door made of marble. Prince opened the door and exposed a very massive hall. It had a pool in the middle and tents scattered around. Katie and her friend were in awe. Prince lead them to his tent, it was a long walk because almost everyone stopped to greet him. They finally got to his tent; it was secluded. There were all sorts of drinks ranging champagne to red wine to whiskey, you name it. ‘Okay ladies, make yourselves comfortable’ Prince said as he took off his jacket, exposing his toned muscles under a designer shirt. He loosened his tie. ‘Why are you sitting so far away from me’ Prince said smiling at Katie. Oh? She whispered. She got to a sit close to him, he kept staring at her behind those glassy eyes, and she could feel her heart mush each time he spoke to her. He was so gentle.
‘So, tell me about yourselves ladies?’ Katie was about to speak when Betty interrupted. ‘My name is Betty, Katie’s best friend; I run a PhD at the University of oxlaw; I’m in my final semester, rounding up my project’.
'Oh, nice! i'm sure you are handling it well right?' Prince asked Betty; he seemed interested. Betty nodded gently. 'What are you writing on? What's the project about?' Betty explained to Prince that it was a project on the actions and behaviors of humans in retrospect to when and where they were birthed and how they were raised.
'Hmm, interesting' Prince remarked.
'Yes, I get really engrossed in it when i'm working, it's very revealing. I use myself as a case study and also do light interviews of people around me' Betty told Prince.
'Ok, you are going to interview me then, that's if your best friend does not mind' Prince said, shifting his gaze to Katie who was busy on her phone. 'It's fine' Katie said. Betty was elated, she thanked Prince.
'So, Katie, you are gonna tell me about you?' he said behind a smile.
'Yea, i've been unemployed for a long time, I just got a job as a manager at Pioneer, you know? the prestigious Pioneer, so! I got my friend out here to celebrate with me'
Prince laughed out loud for the first time he was with them. It was a very masculine sound he made, the sweet baritone that came out his throat vibrated a solid texture.
'Oh, you're celebrating?' Prince asked Katie, 'mhhmm' she replied he couldn't stop smiling at her. He poured the ladies some champagne, took out his phone and sent a text to an unknown number. 'Did you hire a manager recently at the office?'
'Yes sir' the unknown number replied immediately.
'Name?' Prince asked
It took about two minutes, and the unknown number replied
'Katie Gooder'
Prince smiled.
While he was texting, Katie was chatting away about how she couldn't wait to start her new job and meet high class people of influence and pedigree, and have her career kick off. When Prince smiled after receiving the text about who his company employed, Katie asked 'What's funny?'
'Oh, it's nothing, I got a funny text from a friend' Prince said. He was the owner of Pioneer Financial Masters, his dad had passed and he was to take over seeing the affairs of the company. It was his 30th birthday, and he was having a party in this regard. He excused himself, 'i'd be right back' he told the ladies, and walked out before he could get a reply.
Katie frowned, unlike Betty's, he seemed uninterested in her own epilogue on herself and what she had been up to. She told Betty that she was going to leave, but Betty told her not to, that it must have been an emergency. Prince called the compere to the side and instructed him not to mention anything about his dad or the company. 'Just keep it simple' he said. 'Okay sir' the compere nodded.
Prince was back to the ladies as fast as he had left.
Katie was curious. 'Where did you go?' She asked Prince where he went, he looked at her and smiled.
'Katie, I like you, you're pretty; which is a plus, but asides that you are amusing, you haven't said or done a lot but I can already tell that you are fascinating and adventurous. I like adventure and you'd really fit into my company'; 'Okay?, Katie asked, where are you headed with this?'
Prince laughed, 'Don't be rude' he chuckled embarrassingly; well we could start out as friends, but i'm going to ask you to be my girlfriend, prepare for it' he laughed a lot this time, he was embarrassed; he scurried off. Still laughing.
'What just happened?', Katie looked slowly at Betty; Betty was laughing silently;
'No idea'. Betty said and stood up to have a dance with a lad she had been eyeing while her friend was having the conversation.
Katie was lost. 'I should have stayed home' she said; shaking her head and gulping the champagne left in her glass.
