Chapter 3, Surprise!

Katie woke the next day with a headache. She frowned when her alarm clock rang. It was Monday and she had to start her new job that day. She wished she did not have to go anywhere; she was about to regret her decision on attending the yacht party the previous night when she got a message from Betty. It was a picture of her and the lad she met at the party, suddenly it all came rushing back to Katie; PRINCE! She remembered him, and scrolled through her phone to see if he had tried to reach her while she was asleep; nothing! no messages, no missed calls! Such a brat, she thought to herself. Spoiled rich kid who thought he could have her for the night. She rolled her eyes and grabbed some aspirin for her aching head.

It was 6.30 AM, she didn't have much time left to make it to her new job. She quickly had a bath and had some breakfast. It was her first day, so she definitely had on one of her best work clothes. It was a smart shirt and pencil skirt she had gotten for this occasion when she realized she had a new job. She stared at the mirror, she was ready. She set out to meet the bus headed her way.

Prince showed up at work very early. Unlike him. He instructed for the new manager to be set up next to his door. It was unusual for him to show up that early, so his employees where all nervous. They kept whispering to each other, and making brisk walks across the office space. He noticed they were uneasy. It made him laugh. It made him happy. The feeling of total control thrilled him. He smiled at this. Total control, hmmm.

Katie showed up at work. She stopped at the reception and introduced herself as the new manager. She showed her employment letter. 'Oh welcome to Pioneer Financial Masters Miss Gooder, great to have you onboard'. Katie smiled at the receptionist; her name tag read Miss Green. 'Thank you Miss Green' Katie replied, taking a sit. 'I'd be just a moment', Miss Green said, and went left her office. Shortly after she was ushered in by the human relations officer. Mr Michael. He welcomed Katie warmly. 'Please follow me this way' Michael told Katie. The building was huge and exotic. It was as dazzling as the yacht at the party. She felt a sense of fulfillment spread through her body. They stopped at an elevator and boarded it to the pent house. There were only two offices at the penthouse; one was totally tinted; she couldn't see inside, while the other was transparent. Michael ushered her into the office with the transparent glass. 'I'd give you sometime to settle in Michael told her, your orientation starts in an hour'. Katie thanked Michael and put down her bag on the table. Her office was beautiful. It had a lovely and expensive interior; like the rest of the building. When Michael left, she sat on the swivel chair for guests, she was delighted; she swung herself on the chair in excitement; it was just her on that floor after all, or not?

Prince saw Katie and Michael walk out the elevator into her office. She was prettier than he first saw her. A lot ran through his mind. She had to be his. He had to own this beautiful piece, after all he was a collector of beautiful things, right? Yes! he thought to himself, I am THE, PRINCE PIONEER. She would look good by his side, he thought. He had an idea, he was going to text her.

Katie was still busy basking in her new job/office euphoria when her phone beeped. It was a text from Prince. She jumped to her phone;

'Hey, sleep well?' Prince asked

'Yep, at work already' Katie replied immediately

'You're at work and you're replying this fast?' Prince inquired

she laughed, 'first day in, not much to do, my orientation starts in twenty minutes' Katie told Prince.

Prince did not text back. She rolled her eyes and tossed her phone on the desk in front of her. She made a cup of coffee while watching TV to whirl away time while waiting for Michael. In exactly twenty minutes, Michael stepped out of the elevator to fetch Katie for her orientation.

Michael ushered Katie into the elevator to the ground floor. It was a massive building and so Michael had someone ride them around in a cart. He stopped by a couple of offices to introduce Katie to the colleagues she was likely to work with; the rest he just pointed at and explained their duties to her. They went on all twelve floors of the building. Alighting the elevator on each floor, there was a rider on a cart for them. They didn't spend so much time on all of them, just a few important ones and they were back at the penthouse in an hour and thirty minutes. The elevator door opened and this time Michael didn't step out with her, her gave her a gentle wave; 'see you later ma'am' Michael told Katie, 'enjoy your first day'. Katie waved back. She thought to herself why he didn't show her who was behind the office with the tinted glass. She stood in front of the mysterious office for a while, contemplating if she should go in to have a look or not. She decided to give it a go. Prince was grinning, he could see her making up her mind to come in. She walked to the front of the door, paused for a second and gave it a slight knock' no answer. She knocked again with a weak 'hello', no one answered still. She thought maybe no one was there, she turned the door knob, the door cracked open. She almost ran back to her office in fear, but she summoned courage and opened the door all the way, she was shocked to stupor. There he was, Prince. He looked at her behind those glass eyes, smiling, he said; 'hello Katie, surprise!'.
