Chapter 9 Why Are You Helping Me?

"Marry me, and I will help you get back everything that belonged to you." Chris' voice was calm. He wasn't joking at all.

Jessica just felt that her mind was in a mess.

"Why are you helping me?" She was not naive enough to think that he would be so kind.

"I need a child, and you are the most suitable woman. That's the reason." Chris said with his eyes downcast, "As long as you have a child, you will be free."

"Do you want to have a contract marriage with me?" Jessica was surprised.

"Yes, two years. I will help you get back everything that belonged to you, get your father out of prison, and you must give birth to a son within two years. If it is a daughter, you can take her away, and I will pay you a large amount of money, or you can leave her to me, and I will also give you a sum of money, but you will not be allowed to show up in front of the child in the future." Chris's words were not emotional at all, completely formulaic.

"Why me?" Jessica couldn't help but ask.

Before today, she hadn't met or known this man. How could she have been chosen by him?

"A decent family background and good genes." He answered her question very straightforwardly.

Jessica bit her lips, "What if I disagree?"

"If you bear to watch your father's hard work fall into the hands of others, and watch him suffer in prison, then I have nothing to say." Chris shrugged and said indifferently.

Jessica didn't speak.

Two years, the price of giving birth to a child to save his father and take back everything that belonged to her seemed too high.

"You can take your time, but your father may not be able to wait that long," Chris said, took out his phone, and clicked on a video to show her.

Jessica glanced over and immediately screamed, "Dad!"

The person in the video was her father, Joseph Blake, but he looked different from before. Joseph was now begging for mercy with a bruised face and screaming for help, while several inmates were punching and kicking him viciously.

"Where did you get the video?!" Jessica asked angrily, "Did you do it?"

"Huh!" Chris threw the phone on the coffee table and said mockingly, "I'm not as sinister as you think."

"If it isn't you, why do you have this video?"

Jessica suddenly felt that the man in front of her was really terrible, and she didn't understand what he wanted to do.

"I have a friend who works in prison. It is easy to get such a video. Every new prisoner will experience this treatment for a period of time. This is normal. Newcomers will always have to suffer.”

He said casually as if he was stating something meaningless. He smiled faintly and took a sip of water, "Come to me when you think it through."

After he said it, he put down the cup and went upstairs without looking back. He was not worried that she would run away.

Jessica's eyes were already full of tears. Her hands trembled when she picked up the phone that the man had dropped, and she watched over and over again. Her father was beaten in the video, and she couldn't help crying again.

Obviously, their family of three had lived happily. How could it have become totally different overnight?
