Chapter 4 True and False

Linda immediately changed countenance, and the rims of her eyes turned red.

After hanging up the phone, Linda looked anxiously at Nicole and shouted, "Starting today, it is Tammy who saved the man, and you should forget about this permanently."

"No!"

Linda walked slowly to her daughter, her eyes equally dull.

"I am your biological daughter!" Nicole's eyes reddened, and she could hardly restrain the scalding tears.

"Tammy is the rescuer, and I'm sorry that I failed you. If you have any grudge, hold it against me and give up the chance to Tammy!" Following her words, Linda suddenly smacked herself, and the loud slap even startled Tammy.

"I agree." Tears slowly fell off the corners of Nicole's eyes and trickled coldly down her cheeks.

Nicole mocked the scene, closed the door, and sat in the living room to sort out her drawings.

They should have a lot to talk about!

Less than ten minutes later, the half-closed door was pushed open. A dozen people got in and stood in two lines.

Wearing well-ironed suits and sunglasses, those sturdy men put their hands behind their backs.

A middle-aged bald man, walked out from the middle and bowed, "Madam, our young master instructs me to pick you up."

The middle-aged man walked straight to Nicole, sized her up, and continued, "I'm Jonas Edwards, the butler of the Edwards Family and a veteran who watches the young master grows up."

"By rights, you are not qualified to become the young mistress of the Edwards Family, but I do see your elegant appearance and pure eyes. Our young master needs to vie with outsiders and can at least have a simple environment at home after he marries you."

Nicole neither moved nor spoke but felt a tingling sensation from her nose. The bitterness didn't arise from missing the chance to become wealthy. It was more like a disaster to her.

As Nicole didn't move, the butler continued, "Just follow me. Don't worry about the old master and mistress. Our young master will take care of everything."

"Hee hee..."

A burst of laughter came from Nicole's room. Tammy opened the door and got out.

"Who's this?"

Baffled, the butler shifted his attention to Tammy.

Tammy gingerly smoothed the hair on her temples behind her ears and smiled, "Hi, may I ask about the name of the young mistress you are picking up?"

Keeping her head low, Nicole tittered inwardly.

Jonas's eye expression changed, and he glanced at the two women before replying, "Tammy Baker!"

"Sorry, but I am Tammy Baker!"

Tammy laughed in a sliver voice and walked out of the door with her chin high.

When she walked to Nicole, she stopped deliberately, leaned over, and spoke in a voice only audible to them two, "Don't forget about your promise to mom, or she will break off with you."

Following that, she giggled and spoke aloud, "Nicole, you know, I saved someone today, and he is going to marry me as expected. Even though I've told you about this, not everyone can pass me off."

Jonas took a vigilant glance at Nicole's face.

Nicole raised her head to face Tammy's triumphant gaze.

"Nicole, would you come with me to the Edwards's house? My dad has raised you for so many years, and you can continue to enjoy such treatment there."

Nicole grabbed the tail of her clothes, and instinctively avoided Tammy's hand.

"Since you've made the choice, don't blame others for your later sufferings!"

"Nonsense, it's the Edwards Family we're talking about. How would there be suffering?" Tammy showed displeasure in her eyes and pouted.

"What is this? Who is Tammy?"

"I am, of course!" Tammy chested out complacently.

The butler took a sullen glance at Tammy's face. The expressions on his face changed slightly, and there was a distinct hint of disappointment.
