Chapter 8 Unwilling to Make Do

Imagine how Clifford wished he could have a duct tape now to seal off Lori's mouth.

"Lori, can't you stop being so shameless. I tell you what; I'd rather find an old lady than a woman like you!"

Once again, he slammed the door and left without looking back.

Following a sigh, Lori slowly sat back into the big chair. However, the hem of her windbreaker brushed past her scalded spot.

"Hiss..."

The pain instantly stimulated her senses.

Hadn't she been used to it? It had been four years, but Lori, you were still so persistent?

Her bright cat's eyes were tinted with frustration. After she gently closed her eyelids, her curly eyelashes trembled slightly.

By the time she opened her eyes and lifted her coat's hem, blisters already became rampant as expected!

When she got home and applied scald ointment in her bedroom, Clark happened to run into the scene when she woke up out of thirst.

She called out in alarm and immediately called in a doctor.

After the treatment was done, it was already two o'clock in the morning. After taking a shower, Lori unwrapped the numerous layers of preservative film and a towel on top of the gauze around her thigh. While tying the strap of the bathrobe, she walked out of the bathroom.

As expected, Clark was still sitting on her bed. Widening her bull's eyes, she gazed at her as if she would not allow Lori to sleep unless she confessed what happened last night.

Fine, she admitted defeat.

"Ask whatever you want." After her questions were done, Lori still needed to have some sleep. At 7:30 a.m., she still needed to go to work work.

"Tell me what happened exactly?"

It was such a severe scald that 80% of the swollen spot had been densely dotted with small blisters, but she still treated it on her own in the bedroom. If she didn't wake up, would the woman plan to put up with it through the night?

"It's just an accidental scald. What's the fuss?"

Lori sat down on the bed. Even though she tried not to touch the wound, the pain was still relentless. She covered herself with the quilt and sat on the bedside. Clark also went under the quilt, sat next to her, and continued with her accusation.

"Lori, do you have brain damage? Except for making money, you don't care about anything?"

"Work is just a means to an end. I want to provide better education and living condition for my child. These all require money!"

"But, are you short of it?"

Lori pursed her lips and fell into silence.

She held 15% perfect shares of the Gates Group and 30% of the Sterling Group. The annual dividends alone were enough for her to live the rest of her life, even without working. Beyond that, she still had funds, stocks, and investments. Now she could retire and go abroad to take care of her child.

But if she left the Gates Group and resigned from her position as the vice general manager, what... other reasons did she have to come back again?

She just wished to live with her beloved one till the very end! She was not reconciled that her affection was discarded casually! What upset her even more was that Clifford didn't love her! But it was he who chose and proposed marriage in the first place!

When she was only ten years old, she already knew him. That woman, however, just knew him for three months, and he claimed he loved her? What a world! Planet collision or apocalypse?

Clark sighed, "I knew it. You are my bane!"

"Clark, I have a second chance. But I'm unwilling to make do."

Because she once obtained happiness, it was not easy to let go!
