Chapter 9 A Fly in Upscale Restaurant
When she went to work early the next morning, Clifford surprisingly showed up. But there was a tinge of blue in his eyes, and the fumes of wine could be smelt from his body. It looked like he didn't sleep well last night.
His handsome face was filled with indifference and estrangement. Except for several conclusive comments at the key points, the meeting was basically hosted by Lori.
The meeting ended after the key points were introduced.
The meeting was dismissed, and Lori handed two files to her assistant. After a certain instruction to her, she started to sort out the files she prepared on the table.
Clifford felt upset at the sight of the woman whose leg was burned severely last night. He somehow waited for her down the building and followed her till she got into a villa. Apparently, Lori didn't own any property there. Originally, he thought it was the place of a certain man. In the morning, however, he learned it belonged to the lady of Shaw Family. To suppress his anger, he smoked and drank whiskey all night but failed. At that moment, however, he was instantly relieved.
"I didn't expect you to be so diligent about this project."
A sarcastic voice came from above. Lori lifted her head and stiffened. The meeting was already over. Why was Clifford still here?
The corners of her mouth curved up, "Of course, I'm not like a playboy and don't have the time to fool with women. Certainly, I do my job perfectly!"
The soft color on his face instantly gave way to a storm. But after a moment of silence, Clifford stood up with a provocative smile, "Certainly, a woman's true skills lie in if she could curry favor with men. She didn't even need to work so hard and could enjoy her life as a housewife!"
Before leaving, Clifford inadvertently glanced at the oval conference table. In front of it, Lori was still in a daze. Intentionally or unintentionally, he glanced at her thigh wrapped in a pair of beige trousers.
She should have treated it last night, right?
As she looked at the cold figure that appeared in front of her again, the pen slipped from her fingers and dropped on the table with a click.
As her phone rang, she opened her eyes, rubbed her aching forehead, and picked up the phone.
"Mommy, mommy, I miss you so much..."
The gentle voice from the other end was like a feather that stroke her heartstring. The child babbled incessantly and, in the end, called mommy repeatedly.
In fact, she could hand the project over to her assistant. But as she thought of Clifford, half of her heart had flown back.
"Baby, have you been a good boy recently?"
"Of course, you can ask Uncle Richard if you don't believe me!"
"Okay!"
As the man was put on the phone, a steady voice like a cello's sound came into her ear.
"When will you be back? Sunny misses you a lot!"
Sitting on a brown leather sofa, the man was dressed in a black slim-cut business suit. His long hair slightly covered his eyes, and his eyelashes were slightly drooping. With gentle eyes, he gazed at the plump little one in his arms.
"About half a month later. I have to trouble you for the care!"
The tenderness in his eyes stagnated instantly and then gave way to gloom.
Should she talk about troubling him?
The silence went on quite a while. Except for breathing, there were no other sounds.
"Mm, get back early after finishing your business! Remember to eat regularly. If I know you go to the hospital again, you know the consequences!"
"Okay!"
Lori hung up the phone and sighed.
Richard Ken, why were you so persistent?
Before the shift was over, Clark called Lori to have supper outside. Finally, there was no social engagement tonight; therefore, Lori agreed. To her surprise, in the restaurant, she ran into that coquette she met at the hospital. She was just a minor celebrity. Lori didn't even need to think to know what was up her sleeve!
She was also surprised to see Lori, but soon a flash of glint crossed her eyes. Christian Adams, in a sexy bralette dress, wiggled her thin waist, folded her arms in front of her chest, and swaggered up on high heels.
"Yo, I didn't expect to meet Ms. Sterling here! Where is Mr. Gates?" Christian patted her forehead as if something dawned on her, "Heh, my poor memory. Cliff just went to the parking lot and promised to dine with me. How would he have time to keep Mrs. Gates company?"
Carrying a cup, Lori didn't bother for a glance at the woman but still drank her water.
Such a shameless woman was not even worth dirtying her hand.
"Heh, looks like we should ask the manager for a discount. Should a fly get into such an upscale restaurant! My appetite is affected, so disgusting!"
Chewing fruit salad, Clark pouted.
"How dare you!"
Lori raised her head, trying to speak something. Unexpectedly, Clifford was seen coming up behind Clark.
