Chapter 16 Since When Have You Learned to Dodge?
George asked Julia to leave when he arrived at his apartment and called Mrs. March while opening the door. "Is Abigail home?"
He entered the bedroom and opened the wardrobe, which was full of Abigail's clothes.
Next to several sexy nightgowns, there was a set of cartoonish, pink pajamas.
At the thought of being slapped by the woman, George frowned. How ridiculous and ruthless she was!
"Abigail is in her room now. It seems that something bad had happened to her. I wanted to call the doctor, but she stopped me," Mr. March was concerned with the woman and added, "Mr. Gates. I think you'd better take her to the hospital tomorrow."
"Hum. No worries. She is a tough girl." George felt relieved that Abigail had arrived home and then hung up.
He wanted to throw the woman's clothes out of his room. However, after staring at them for a good while, he decided not to do so. Actually, he somehow thought those female's dresses had filled his wardrobe with the breath of life.
This night, he slept soundly.
...
In contrast, Abigail, who was in the Gates Family's villa, had been haunted by nightmares. She woke up several times and eventually lost her sleep completely in the second half of the night.
The next morning, seeing the woman's listless face, Oliver asked, "You didn't sleep well?"
In fact, she had put on some makeup before coming down, but it failed to hide the dark shadows under her eyes.
It was Saturday, and she did not sleep well last night, so Abigail woke up quite late. By the time she showed up on the first floor of the house, Oliver had finished his breakfast and was reading newspapers.
Abigail nodded, sat by the table, and said, "I lost my sleep last night."
With that, Oliver put down the newspapers and put on his jacket with the help of Mrs. March. Abigail asked with concern, "Grandpa, are you going out?"
"James and I are going to have a trip abroad soon. We signed up for a tour yesterday and will buy something for that this morning."
Abigail was slightly surprised. "How long are you going to stay there? Do you want me to accompany you to buy those necessities?"
"No need. Why don't you go to George's place after breakfast?" In light of George's tough attitude on that morning, Oliver had decided to concentrate on persuading Abigail. He hoped that when he got back from the trip, the relationship between the couple could be improved.
"If you had given birth to a child, I would not go abroad for fun and would stay in the house to take care of the baby."
The older man once again brought up the topic of childbirth. Abigail lowered her head and said nothing.
After what had happened last night, it had become absolutely impossible for her and George to establish an intimate relationship.
With his jacket on, Grandfather Oliver left.
Abigail had no appetite, so she just had a mouthful of milk. After watering the flowers in the yard, she planned to purchase a new cell phone.
Although a phone was not expensive, it was still a pity that someone had smashed it. Also, she decided to visit the company to see if she could get her SIM card back.
Before going out, she called Julia and learned that George was not in the apartment. Therefore, she asked Mrs. March for the key to the apartment and went out to take the bus.
She took a direct bus from the villa to the apartment and soon arrived at the door. Just as she was going to insert the key, a familiar smell of perfume drifted into her nostrils. Then, a palm was moving towards her face.
Abigail tilted her body to dodge the attack, regained her balance, and then noticed Meg Grey standing two steps away from her and wearing a proud expression.
"Gee, since when have you learned to dodge?"
Meg's pretty facial features were kind of damnified by her bright, heavy makeup, and she looked more than ten years older than she really was. In fact, her features were quite similar to those of Tina, which were annoying in Abigail's eyes.
After casting a cold glance at the other woman, Abigail asked, "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at school or at home?"
